It's like...there is something missing from the music since Portnoy left, and I know Portnoy is what's missing from the line up, but music wise, there is a huge space that cannot be filled.

He was always one of the main reasons I loved the band. Mike M is an amazing drummer, but just lacks the character and energy MP brings to the music.
I would love to see them playing The Spirit Carries On, but I'm almost certain that MP won't do it since it's not one of his lyrics/songs. But it would be amazing to see and hear Eric solo version which I'm sure it would be the exact thing from the album. He is that amazing
Mike looks like one of them dudes from Duck Dynasty and that's not a bad thing also he's a real badass he's almost like an architectural engineer on the drums he has some killer formulas and I mean killer thumbs up man you can play with anybody in this entire universe and show them how it's done

Ain't that good live that's for sure, and in the last studio albums, mr Chicky probably fixed his voice with some autotune and a few hours of mixing.. However Labrie gave Dream Theater something not a lot of singers would be able to do and it's a PERSONALITY! which is beyond even portnoy's contribution on the drums, When Mangini arrived i could still hear it was DT, drum tuning was a bit different but overall the guy does a pretty good job at mimicking Portnoy even in his gestures (with more timing and accuracy) Replace Labrie and all you ll be left with is : "Petrucci and friends" just like TOTO without Kimball ain't really TOTO anymore, or Iron Maiden without Bruce etc ...
When he was in Winery Dogs Mike Portnoy said he couldn't relate to Dream Theater music anymore. yet he keep playing it. I want to see him play (pale blue dot)

Dave, I was at the Boston show, JLB was far from top notch even tho he was using a lot of backing tracks, specially for the high notes... The Breaking the Fourth Wall was heavily post produced to fix the vocals. And for the famous Score performance at RCMH, I know for a fact that he didn't even sing for that show, it was all lip sync. And you know who else lip syncs every single time? John Petrucci, whenever you see him "singing" live, he is just pretending.

No. I have been a fan of DT since 1991. I am a fan of Portnoy even after he left DT, supposedly because he was tired of playing these songs. I am a fan of DT with Mangini. This sounds too much like a cover band playing DT. These guitarists do not have the tech wizardry of Petrucci and the bass line is critical and Meung is well Meung....unfortunate....Portnoy needs to do this with DT....
