EPIC THE MUSICAL - UNDERWORLD ANIMATIC (Odysseus's mom scene)

- Ive recently been loving the music and art from Epic so I thought I'd add a contribution of my own. The ending scene in Underworld where Odysseus meets his mother, who died waiting for him to return home, is so full of emotion that I did my best to capture.
Also as a fun fact the voice of Odysseus's mom is actually voiced by the composers real mother!

Only to pass right through them,them continuing on without acknowledging that you there,as if you’re but a ghost to them,and could only watch them to wallow in lonely sorrow…

Ah this is perfect. This is how it should be. The moment is supposed to be sad/tragic not bittersweet. The mom doesn't know he is there. I think all of the spirits are basically supposed to be witless shades of their former selves in Hades. She would not be aware of his existence.
Yes yes yes! I love lots of Underworld animatics but some of them have Ody and his mum like interact and hug. And like, this scene isn't about closure and reunion, it's about how they'll *never get that*! Give me that pathos! That sadness! The way he runs right through her, and the way she simply can't see or interact with them all!

My headcanon is that Polites and his crew are the only ones who can see him because he was there to witness their deaths. However, Anticlea was the only one he just happened to notice because she couldn't see him due to his absence when she died.

You depicted it perfectly. Imagine missing your son so so much when you're alive. And then your physical body dies and only your soul, those feelings that made you a person, remain. They're there, but also, not there. You're a specter now. Your son is here, but you don't know. And he rushes to touch you, but you're not in his plain of existence. And then you fade from his view. Just.. wow! This made me really reflect on existence itself.

Whoa, uhm, tears are streaming from my eyes. This is a gorgeous animatic. The way you depict the Underworld is beautiful, Ody’s mom’s design is so pretty, and the fact that he goes through her and she dissolves when he tries to touch her? 😭 This is such an awesome job that you’ve done, I love it ❤❤❤
I’ve never cried at Anticlea’s part. I cried at Polites’ part, but not Anticlea’s.
… I’m tearing up. This. This animatic has brought me to tears I never thought would come. Absolutely gorgeous. You can see the raw pain in his eyes, you can see the wistful hope in her’s. I’m crying you can’t do this to me please-

She's stunning and the expressions from her remind me of the sirens . How motherly and comforting to Ody. By doing this it helps set up the sirens looks . Great work .

Okay that was just not cool, Jorge. My heart was already metaphorically down on the ground wheezing after that Polites gut punch. This was basically my heart getting repeatedly kicked in the balls while reeling on the floor. You fight dirty, Jalapena.
