I also see it as Odysseus dropping the worldview that Polites tried to get him on board with. He’s not going to be giving kindness a try after this song, he’s fully in on the Monster persona
What's interesting is, canonically, that could very well have been the case. Apparently, after Odysseus left for the war, Penelope had a whole revolving door of suitors wanting to marry her (I think she was a princess, so that's probably why). She claims she would only pick one once she finished weaving a burial shroud for Odysseus's father, but she was undoing part of it for a long time until some slave ratted her out. By the way, Odysseus was gone for TWENTY YEARS. The Trojan War went on for ten and then Odysseus got lost at sea for another ten. I think most people, even at the time, would have assumed he died and moved on with their lives, but not Penelope. She was faithful and I mad respect that.
I mean, in Posiden's case, let's be real, dude only did what he did so the other Gods didn't shit talk him for doing nothing when his son called to be avenged. Instead they'll shit talk him for getting outsmarted by a mortal.
I like to think that in the original, the only reason Poseidon didn't directly kill odysseus was because Athena managed to dampen odysseus' punishment to getting lost at sea. In ruthlessness, we see that Poseidon directly interferes, leading to the loss of the majority of the crew. But in the odyssey(and even in keep your friends close), opening the bag led Odysseus back to the land of the giants(Laestrygonians), who chuck rocks at his ships. Odysseus doesn't make a bet with aeolus. Instead aeolus is just happy to help, but refuses to help a second time because he saw that Odysseus was cursed by the gods if he couldn't keep a simple bag closed. But you're right Poseidon wouldn't want his fellow gods to undermine him, and he also wouldn't want mortals to stop praying to him.
IMO, Poseidon could have been perfectly aware who hurt Polyphemus. God of the ocean being able to track down who visited the Cyclop's island after hearing 'Nobody' blinded his son sounds reasonable. Personally, I don't think he would have minded. He has dozens of children at least, and Polyphemus wasn't heroic or impressive. That said, Odysseus sailed away after declaring his name and deeds instead of fleeing the island in shame and fear. Poseidon had to act, or be mocked by mortals and gods alike.
Thats part of the point though Odysseus shouldve killed the cyclops.....instead he was prideful announcing his name and as well as naive believeing he could still be this hero because he showed mercy and instead it led to so much worse for him and his crew
That "monster" Athena wanted would have made it home far sooner than Odysseus did. The only reason he didn't was because his mercy was also his hubris. He felt bad for killing the infant, but he still did it nonetheless. But he refused to kill the Cyclops despite the Cyclops actively trying to kill him. Listening to Athena at this moment would have saved his life and almost all of his crew that was slain by Poseidon. His pride made him act like he knew better than a Goddess of Wisdom and War, even undoing his own plan because his hubris surpassed his logic. He should have never revealed his name.

the rawr rawr rawr scene in Monster reminds me a lot of that peaceful moment in Just A Man where Ody sat down and contimplated, "When does a cabbage become a meteor," with an infant.
With the headband, it also keeps the hair out of his eyes, keeping his vision (decision making) clear. Now his hair clouds it and also having hair in your face makes emotions and thoughts harder to be read! (I may be overanylizing but hush-)
Love that Odysseus and his adversaries are initially shown as malevolent shadowy figures, but are shown clearly and humanely after he reasons why they do what they do.
You're right! And then Odysseus' monster version stays shadowy till the end of his verse, since Ody sees the qualities of his opponents that makes them more human, but is unable to do the same with his own actions!
Something I love, that is also reflected in the song, is that Polyphemus, Circe and Poseidon are depicted as tragic and/or ultimately kind-ish, while Odysseus is framed as this murderous specter of a person. Also, Odysseus just laying in a puddle is hilarious.

If I remember they have shown it as pupils in the darkness for both a monster version, and as an Ares version. I like to see the idea of the soldier being taken into Ody is him taking in Ares patronage since Athena has abandoned him now (At least in his perception)
uhmmm thats actually the whole message of the musical. The creator of this music 100% aggress with "ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves" It is a message that means it is *good* to do ruthless and arguably unethical things for the people you have responsibilities too. (your family.) It is the direct opposite philosophy of "don't kill the badguy just throw him in jail" crap that batman spouts all the time.

With Circi for example, he shows her some understanding, and restraint, and so they both survive and she shows them the way to the underworld for help. Same with the wind god, he goes asking for a hand, and so they're like "yeah sure". It's not pure brutality, it's selectively chosing when and where to use this anger. Which I like quite a bit.

It means the man who he was when he first met Tiresias will not be the same man who makes it home, as all but stated in the previous song. And keep in mind they bring up Batman's philosophy and call it "crap". Even though not wanting to become a monster is EXACTLY why Batman has that philosophy. We even got two major event comics and multiple story arcs featuring the worst version of that monster as a main antagonist. But the biggest issue is the lack of literacy. He doesn't get that this is arguably part of a tragedy if he thinks the creator of the song "100% agrees with 'ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves'". As you said, mercy with Circe is what earned him the chance to travel to the Underworld for help.
Precisely what @Catalyst375 said, it goes far deeper than just “oh well the moral of the musical is kill all your enemies so stop saying that’s a bad thing” because no??? Not only are there examples showing this is not an absolute principle to follow, just think for a second. If everyone abided by “ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves, I’ll be awful to others for the sake of making things easier for myself”, that’s no way to live, you’ll burn all your bridges before you build them, not to mention anyone who abides by such a philosophy can just as easily hurt you because everyone’s only looking out for their best interests. Even if it was meant to be portrayed as an absolute principle to follow, there’s still instances within the musical itself that debunk this philosophy as a constant. It’s character development, but quite honestly it’s almost downwards character development (in what world is the guy singing about throwing a baby off a wall morally enlightened) and there is certainly the whole present theme of it no longer being him, of the harsh acts of war and conflict and death scarring and changing this man into someone numb to causing death. I would agree that there are definitely instances where it’s appropriate to do away with the enemy, but embracing it as a principle across the board is not a good thing.

Even when talking about the way Odysseus' character develops, Jorge Rivera-Herrans says that the lesson Odysseus is learning is that "we must have the CAPACITY for ruthlessness," not that "ruthlessness is always correct." Even in just the first act we see how sometimes ruthlessness is the wrong tactic: with Aeolus (the wind god), simply asking politely for her help was enough; with Circe, even though she cursed Odysseus' men and he HAS the strength to oppose her, choosing mercy and kindness- and asking for mercy in return- is what gets her to help. Sometimes, ruthlessness IS mercy upon ourselves, but sometimes mercy upon others is mercy for all.
2:34 I noticed that Odysseus sails on his own, even as he says "we". It's just a small raft with him inside. That could either be foreshadowing to Get In The Water or 600 Strike I guess, but I like to think that's his thoughts. He says "we" but he doesn't really care about his crew's survival. At least not enough to move him. It's like he almost expects to return alone. Yes, if he can, he'll save everyone. But if he can't he will save himself. Thunder Bringer is sealed in fate.
At 2:04 we can see this monster bending down almost in half and is about the size of Odysseus showing the monster is much taller than Odysseus which to me is giving Athena vibes especially with the helmet showing how the warrior of the mind ideology and the monster ideology are very close to being exactly the same.
At 2:43 we can see the shadow stand straight up and its height is almost similar to Odysseus, which symbolizes that the monster is basically Odysseus. He just avoided it always and now he's embracing it as his identity
It makes me SO SAD but I love it SO MUCH when artists portray Odysseus wearing Politie's sash, but have him RIP IT OFF IN MONSTER. It has me foaming and sobbing on the ground, representing Odyssey's parting from humanity and truly becoming ruthless

And as a bonus thing, if the monster every time they’ve been visualized in the live show is adorned with a black cape/shawl and a black helm, if during this dance they gradually give their costume pieces to Odysseus to signify his transformation into the monster and on the last “I’ll become the monster” kneel to him with his new arraignments as that horn blast sounds. I think that would be awesomely evocative for the finale of act 1

I know that "ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves" is likely meant to be 'spoken' by shadow ody here, but personally, I like to interpret it that Odysseus _is_ saying that, and the shadow is just leaning forward as if raring, like an animal calculating if it's time to strike yet.

You must be ruthless so that those you would've otherwise shown mercy can't do you harm, therefore being merciful with yourself. During 2:13 the chorus says “monster” in the same notes that Poseidon says them in 600 Strike, after that Ody immediately says “ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves.” In short, THIS IS FORSHADOWING.
Wow... I am absolutely gagged at what I have seen, first off the first moments of Odysseus walking about in shock and slight despair, the constant reflections of himself, then the colours darkening as he really starts to question himself, Polyphemus being first, him rubbing the sheep, Circe looking malicious at first, but then turning back to a past, more young version of her after a failure she could not stop. given her more depth, Poseidon being seen as someone who has to be respected, no matter the cost, then Odysseus seeing himself as nothing but a solider but then cutting back to his men, who wish the same goal as him, Home, Itacha, to their families, the "Monster" side coming from the ground and confronting him, I like to think it says "Oh ruthlessness is mercy upon our sails" , then passing by the people he has lost, Polities, who died beside him, Athena separating from him, his mother dying of grief and hopes to see her son again, the 500 men he has lost, the constant paddling he does when trying to run from Poseidon, then it coming back to when he dropped Hector's son, cutting back to the "monster", the final agreement that comes between them at the end, as it slowly takes a part of him, btw this sequence is absolutely beautiful 2:46 the countless cuts to the colour red does it for me, the reflections in the first few seconds now becoming the "monster", then it ending on the white eyes of it, as Odysseus comes in terms with it Just an absolutely amazing animatic at it's finest!
All the red symbolism also reminds me of when the prophet tells him his palace is covered in red. The flashes could be showing that it’s the “Monster” who took over in the King song.

That acceptance sequence was beautiful. I feel like it’s easy to go too far and make Odysseus look like a maniacal villain or edge lord, but it’s a perfect balance of inner conflict here imo
I love how Odysseus just falls over into the water for his existential crisis, perfect. And the cyclops being so soft with his sheep, very adorable! And the whole end where he becomes the monster rawr rawr RAWR, it looks so awesome!

So when she is weak on the ground, she activates the magic of the plants she put in the wine and for the first time, transforms the men into pigs.
This is incredible. I love the visual of him giving himself up to the mindset of the soldier during battle, willing to do anything to win, even kill an infant, only to their collapse against Penelope's lap. It shows that he's willing to do it, he has to be the Soldier now, but he still lacks the strength to become the Monster fully.

Fantastically well done! Absolutely love how "cinematic" your animatics are. They're always remarkably fluid. The scene where Odysseus accepts the shadowy figure was sick.
Holy. Moly. Where do I even start? Odysseus’s expressions are _everything._ It definitely gives off a vibe of “sleepless nights of regretting your past decisions”, which perfectly matches the themes of the song! I love the parts where the “monster” is reflected in the water _so much,_ because he’s literally _reflecting_ on where he’s gone wrong so far, and the second half of the song is how he’s gonna fix it so they can get home. Oh my *_gods,_* the black silhouette flashbacks had me *screaming.* Absolutely gorgeous! The fact that they’re outlined the same way as the reflections is really cool too, because he’s also reflecting on his encounters with the people he lists. And then the cut after each one to who those people really are, so cool! Although one detail I noticed in Poseidon’s is the shot of a bull being sacrificed when Odysseus says “Or does he keep us in check so we must respect him, and now no one dares to piss him off?” Is that a reference to how Minos intentionally sacrificed the wrong bull to Poseidon, leading Poseidon to curse Pasiphaë into creating the Minotaur? Because if so, that’s a really nice touch. The pan over everyone Ody has lost was also amazing! I really like your design of his mother, too! That final sequence where the “monster” becomes part of him absolutely took my breath away. One more small detail I noticed is that in some shots, the “monster’s” silhouette resembles Athena. I know that’s likely not intentional, but it makes me think about how the “monster” and the way of thinking it represents is what Athena originally wanted Odysseus to be. Absolutely incredible work, and well worth the April Fool’s prank! 😂
I love how Odysseus is holding the Baby and then the scene fades over to him as a Monster with opened hand embracing his dark side. Outstanding work like always gigi makes by far the best animations to that masterpiece out there!
I always love it when someone gives Ody’s men unique facial features. It’s always a treat to see recurring faces in Ody’s crew. 1:47 - Oh! So that’s why he has one eye. That’s such a cool detail!!!

One thing that always brings be back is when he embraces the shadowed warrior: the monster holds out his hand to shake, a near universal symbol of agreement, but does Odie shake it’s hand? No, he grabs the wrist to assert control. He is the monster on his own terms. Very well done

This whole thing is fantastic, but the shot of shadow-Odysseus on the wall with Astyanax is especially powerful to me. I keep coming back to this animatic because I need to see it again it’s just so striking and terrifying, it really sticks with you
IMO this animatic is GOATed in the EPIC so far (I've seen through the vengeance saga). The symbolism, the expressions, the flow, the build-ups... every time I watch it there's a new detail I hadn't noticed. Every reaction I watch somebody has something new and interesting to say. Hell of a job on this one, gigi (no pun intended).

At 3:00 the way that Odysseus's hands look kind of black and watery reminds me of the way that you drew one of Poseidon's arms in the Ruthlessness animatic. The symbolism of this is like saying that Odysseus is kind of adopting Poseidon's mindset of ruthlessness, which he is. This probably isn't a design detail, but I just noticed it and thought it was cool. My favorite EPIC animatic yet! IT'S SO GOOD!!!!🤯🤯

Yooo this is sick!!!! I love your animations, the difference in having the "monstrous" versions be static (more or less) and blocked out versus just the line art and their movements (especially Circe) make them human, it was awesome! Wonderful work!
I normally don’t comment on videos, but this is legitimately *amazing*. You are such a talented animator, I mean that genuinely. The shot where Odysseus shakes the Monster’s hand? *So* smooth. I can’t imagine how much effort and practice it must have taken to get this good, but it definitely shows. Every frame feels seamless, especially for a relatively low frame rate, and when you transition to a more ‘slideshowy’ style it feels intentional and impactful. The vocals are amazing on their own but your drawings elevate the whole experience- you can feel Odysseus’s desperation and regret in everything. This is a masterpiece.
NUH UH, IS THAT ALLOWED? IS THAT... IS THAT ALLOWED, GIGI?? THIS IS INSANE. I can't even begin to unpack the reading of each scene, you cooked so much, it's impressive!! Also the fluidity of the animation during the climax of the song?? Every transition had me floored, I am fell. You've captured the impact of this moment of Odisseus so well, congratulations.
I just want to pay attention to the characters that appear in the background of the Odyssey song, because they are fantastically revealed to Gigi!! 1:19 How I love this shot! He sits quietly and looks at his furry friends, although in the meantime, next to them are the belongings of the dead soldiers of Odysseus (specifically Polit's glasses). And despite the fact that he no longer has an eye, he feels calm and knows that someone worse than him will avenge him. No one else is in terrible danger. 1:30 No matter what anyone says, Circe has the saddest story of why she attacked Odysseus. Because her nymphs were harmed and she herself, and of course Circe became much colder over time and stopped trusting the opposite sex (men) who sailed back to her island. She is more realistic with Cyclops, I can really sympathize with them, unlike Poseidon and others who harmed Odysseus and the team. 1:36 I ask the commentators who know the meaning of this scene to tell me who exactly Poseidon is killing and for what!! I will be incredibly grateful to you! 🕊️ 1:39 It hurt my heart after that moment, ay... Poseidon is the most soulless of all Odysseus' enemies, he is a god who killed before Odysseus, and will kill after. To rape, to offend, because he can just do it! It is impossible to sympathize with him, because he does not even avenge his son, if you refer to the lyrics of his song, he just takes revenge because he wants to. 3:16 My holy buns, Odysseus lost everything that Polite taught him. Literally everything and Penelope confirms it... Dear Gigi, thank you very much for the incredible animation, for the emotional scene at the very beginning, when Odysseus already lay down on a puddle and began to reflect on himself, his enemies and the "Monster"... 1:36 is the sacrifice of a bull, potentially a reference to the Minotaur. It’s usually associated with Cretean worship of Poseidon. When they stopped respecting him by refusing to sacrifice his bull (the bull he gifted them) to him, he reminded them of the cost of disrespect. Basically, Poseidon is scary.
my favorite part is when he says "it's monstering time" and he monstered all of the threats. now seriously speaking, this is one of the greatest animatics of all time, and the way you captured the contrasts between emotions and the internal transformation of Odysseys was just perfect. I also see it as Odysseus dropping the worldview that Polites tried to get him on board with. He’s not going to be giving kindness a try after this song, he’s fully in on the Monster persona

What's interesting is, canonically, that could very well have been the case. Apparently, after Odysseus left for the war, Penelope had a whole revolving door of suitors wanting to marry her (I think she was a princess, so that's probably why). She claims she would only pick one once she finished weaving a burial shroud for Odysseus's father, but she was undoing part of it for a long time until some slave ratted her out.
By the way, Odysseus was gone for TWENTY YEARS. The Trojan War went on for ten and then Odysseus got lost at sea for another ten. I think most people, even at the time, would have assumed he died and moved on with their lives, but not Penelope. She was faithful and I mad respect that.
I mean, in Posiden's case, let's be real, dude only did what he did so the other Gods didn't shit talk him for doing nothing when his son called to be avenged. Instead they'll shit talk him for getting outsmarted by a mortal.
I like to think that in the original, the only reason Poseidon didn't directly kill odysseus was because Athena managed to dampen odysseus' punishment to getting lost at sea. In ruthlessness, we see that Poseidon directly interferes, leading to the loss of the majority of the crew. But in the odyssey(and even in keep your friends close), opening the bag led Odysseus back to the land of the giants(Laestrygonians), who chuck rocks at his ships. Odysseus doesn't make a bet with aeolus. Instead aeolus is just happy to help, but refuses to help a second time because he saw that Odysseus was cursed by the gods if he couldn't keep a simple bag closed.
But you're right Poseidon wouldn't want his fellow gods to undermine him, and he also wouldn't want mortals to stop praying to him.

IMO, Poseidon could have been perfectly aware who hurt Polyphemus. God of the ocean being able to track down who visited the Cyclop's island after hearing 'Nobody' blinded his son sounds reasonable. Personally, I don't think he would have minded. He has dozens of children at least, and Polyphemus wasn't heroic or impressive.
That said, Odysseus sailed away after declaring his name and deeds instead of fleeing the island in shame and fear. Poseidon had to act, or be mocked by mortals and gods alike.
To be honest I think is more ridiculouse that you are a god but also so pity that you can't let the mortal go home😂
Thats part of the point though Odysseus shouldve killed the cyclops.....instead he was prideful announcing his name and as well as naive believeing he could still be this hero because he showed mercy and instead it led to so much worse for him and his crew

That "monster" Athena wanted would have made it home far sooner than Odysseus did. The only reason he didn't was because his mercy was also his hubris. He felt bad for killing the infant, but he still did it nonetheless. But he refused to kill the Cyclops despite the Cyclops actively trying to kill him. Listening to Athena at this moment would have saved his life and almost all of his crew that was slain by Poseidon. His pride made him act like he knew better than a Goddess of Wisdom and War, even undoing his own plan because his hubris surpassed his logic. He should have never revealed his name.

@@thomass2505 I don't think they get the deeper implications of what this means for Odysseus and his character as a whole. It means the man who he was when he first met Tiresias will not be the same man who makes it home, as all but stated in the previous song.
And keep in mind they bring up Batman's philosophy and call it "crap". Even though not wanting to become a monster is EXACTLY why Batman has that philosophy. We even got two major event comics and multiple story arcs featuring the worst version of that monster as a main antagonist.
But the biggest issue is the lack of literacy. He doesn't get that this is arguably part of a tragedy if he thinks the creator of the song "100% agrees with 'ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves'". As you said, mercy with Circe is what earned him the chance to travel to the Underworld for help.
Precisely what @Catalyst375 said, it goes far deeper than just “oh well the moral of the musical is kill all your enemies so stop saying that’s a bad thing” because no???
Not only are there examples showing this is not an absolute principle to follow, just think for a second. If everyone abided by “ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves, I’ll be awful to others for the sake of making things easier for myself”, that’s no way to live, you’ll burn all your bridges before you build them, not to mention anyone who abides by such a philosophy can just as easily hurt you because everyone’s only looking out for their best interests. Even if it was meant to be portrayed as an absolute principle to follow, there’s still instances within the musical itself that debunk this philosophy as a constant.
It’s character development, but quite honestly it’s almost downwards character development (in what world is the guy singing about throwing a baby off a wall morally enlightened) and there is certainly the whole present theme of it no longer being him, of the harsh acts of war and conflict and death scarring and changing this man into someone numb to causing death. I would agree that there are definitely instances where it’s appropriate to do away with the enemy, but embracing it as a principle across the board is not a good thing.

Even when talking about the way Odysseus' character develops, Jorge Rivera-Herrans says that the lesson Odysseus is learning is that "we must have the CAPACITY for ruthlessness," not that "ruthlessness is always correct." Even in just the first act we see how sometimes ruthlessness is the wrong tactic: with Aeolus (the wind god), simply asking politely for her help was enough; with Circe, even though she cursed Odysseus' men and he HAS the strength to oppose her, choosing mercy and kindness- and asking for mercy in return- is what gets her to help. Sometimes, ruthlessness IS mercy upon ourselves, but sometimes mercy upon others is mercy for all.
2:34 I noticed that Odysseus sails on his own, even as he says "we". It's just a small raft with him inside. That could either be foreshadowing to Get In The Water or 600 Strike I guess, but I like to think that's his thoughts. He says "we" but he doesn't really care about his crew's survival. At least not enough to move him. It's like he almost expects to return alone. Yes, if he can, he'll save everyone. But if he can't he will save himself. Thunder Bringer is sealed in fate.

At 2:04 we can see this monster bending down almost in half and is about the size of Odysseus showing the monster is much taller than Odysseus which to me is giving Athena vibes especially with the helmet showing how the warrior of the mind ideology and the monster ideology are very close to being exactly the same.

2:15 I think that after the "crew" says monster (at least i think its the crew) its the shadow that says "ruthlessness is mercy apon ourselves" because its the dark part of Odysseus's mind.
I know that "ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves" is likely meant to be 'spoken' by shadow ody here, but personally, I like to interpret it that Odysseus _is_ saying that, and the shadow is just leaning forward as if raring, like an animal calculating if it's time to strike yet.
Personally I interpretate that part as "instead of showing mercy to others, we should think about our well being first" being ruthless with the others

You must be ruthless so that those you would've otherwise shown mercy can't do you harm, therefore being merciful with yourself. I am absolutely gagged at what I have seen, first off the first moments of Odysseus walking about in shock and slight despair, the constant reflections of himself, then the colours darkening as he really starts to question himself, Polyphemus being first, him rubbing the sheep, Circe looking malicious at first, but then turning back to a past, more young version of her after a failure she could not stop. given her more depth, Poseidon being seen as someone who has to be respected, no matter the cost, then Odysseus seeing himself as nothing but a solider but then cutting back to his men, who wish the same goal as him, Home, Itacha, to their families, the "Monster" side coming from the ground and confronting him, I like to think it says "Oh ruthlessness is mercy upon our sails" , then passing by the people he has lost, Polities, who died beside him, Athena separating from him, his mother dying of grief and hopes to see her son again, the 500 men he has lost, the constant paddling he does when trying to run from Poseidon, then it coming back to when he dropped Hector's son, cutting back to the "monster", the final agreement that comes between them at the end, as it slowly takes a part of him, btw this sequence is absolutely beautiful 2:46 the countless cuts to the colour red does it for me, the reflections in the first few seconds now becoming the "monster", then it ending on the white eyes of it, as Odysseus comes in terms with it

So when she is weak on the ground, she activates the magic of the plants she put in the wine and for the first time, transforms the men into pigs.

This is incredible. I love the visual of him giving himself up to the mindset of the soldier during battle, willing to do anything to win, even kill an infant, only to their collapse against Penelope's lap. It shows that he's willing to do it, he has to be the Soldier now, but he still lacks the strength to become the Monster fully.

Odysseus’s expressions are _everything._ It definitely gives off a vibe of “sleepless nights of regretting your past decisions”, which perfectly matches the themes of the song!
I love the parts where the “monster” is reflected in the water _so much,_ because he’s literally _reflecting_ on where he’s gone wrong so far, and the second half of the song is how he’s gonna fix it so they can get home.
Oh my *_gods,_* the black silhouette flashbacks had me *screaming.* Absolutely gorgeous! The fact that they’re outlined the same way as the reflections is really cool too, because he’s also reflecting on his encounters with the people he lists. And then the cut after each one to who those people really are, so cool!
Although one detail I noticed in Poseidon’s is the shot of a bull being sacrificed when Odysseus says “Or does he keep us in check so we must respect him, and now no one dares to piss him off?” Is that a reference to how Minos intentionally sacrificed the wrong bull to Poseidon, leading Poseidon to curse Pasiphaë into creating the Minotaur? Because if so, that’s a really nice touch.
The pan over everyone Ody has lost was also amazing! I really like your design of his mother, too!
That final sequence where the “monster” becomes part of him absolutely took my breath away.
One more small detail I noticed is that in some shots, the “monster’s” silhouette resembles Athena. I know that’s likely not intentional, but it makes me think about how the “monster” and the way of thinking it represents is what Athena originally wanted Odysseus to be.

This whole thing is fantastic, but the shot of shadow-Odysseus on the wall with Astyanax is especially powerful to me. I keep coming back to this animatic because I need to see it again it’s just so striking and terrifying, it really sticks with you
IMO this animatic is GOATed in the EPIC so far (I've seen through the vengeance saga). The symbolism, the expressions, the flow, the build-ups... every time I watch it there's a new detail I hadn't noticed. Every reaction I watch somebody has something new and interesting to say. Hell of a job on this one, gigi (no pun intended).

At 3:00 the way that Odysseus's hands look kind of black and watery reminds me of the way that you drew one of Poseidon's arms in the Ruthlessness animatic. The symbolism of this is like saying that Odysseus is kind of adopting Poseidon's mindset of ruthlessness, which he is. This probably isn't a design detail, but I just noticed it and thought it was cool. My favorite EPIC animatic yet! IT'S SO GOOD!!!!🤯🤯

Yooo this is sick!!!! I love your animations, the difference in having the "monstrous" versions be static (more or less) and blocked out versus just the line art and their movements (especially Circe) make them human, it was awesome! Wonderful work!

I normally don’t comment on videos, but this is legitimately *amazing*. You are such a talented animator, I mean that genuinely. The shot where Odysseus shakes the Monster’s hand? *So* smooth. I can’t imagine how much effort and practice it must have taken to get this good, but it definitely shows. Every frame feels seamless, especially for a relatively low frame rate, and when you transition to a more ‘slideshowy’ style it feels intentional and impactful. The vocals are amazing on their own but your drawings elevate the whole experience- you can feel Odysseus’s desperation and regret in everything. This is a masterpiece.

1:19 How I love this shot! He sits quietly and looks at his furry friends, although in the meantime, next to them are the belongings of the dead soldiers of Odysseus (specifically Polit's glasses). And despite the fact that he no longer has an eye, he feels calm and knows that someone worse than him will avenge him. No one else is in terrible danger.

No matter what anyone says, Circe has the saddest story of why she attacked Odysseus. Because her nymphs were harmed and she herself, and of course Circe became much colder over time and stopped trusting the opposite sex (men) who sailed back to her island. She is more realistic with Cyclops, I can really sympathize with them, unlike Poseidon and others who harmed Odysseus and the team.

My interpretation of 1.36 is that it shows mortals making sacrifices to Poseidon to represent how "we must respect him"!
1:36 is the sacrifice of a bull, potentially a reference to the Minotaur. It’s usually associated with Cretean worship of Poseidon. When they stopped respecting him by refusing to sacrifice his bull (the bull he gifted them) to him, he reminded them of the cost of disrespect. Basically, Poseidon is scary.
