See, this is the type of video TH-cam should have. It gets a little tiring when people only talk about the good in something, these sort of balanced analysis is way more helpful.

Yes!! My client's really love Squarespace. I'll help them customize the site, give them a quick tutorial and they are able to manage it on their own. When I used WordPress, my clients would get frustrated and often need to come back to me for "updates" and help managing it. I know this is a fancy word, but SEO is great on Squarespace as well when you know how to implement it.

I used Wix for a final project in school a couple of years ago, and it truly was super easy, even for a 16 year old. I built it in a couple of days (working on it only 2 hours a day). It was very intuitive and didn't feel any different to making a powerpoint.

Agreed. I used Wix several years ago to build a professional web site. It was a pleasure to use and what I also liked was it was super easy to make pages inaccessible or bring them back on line when I wanted to. I have another project coming up and I will most certainly be using Wix again .... it's just so easy for us users. It even has it's own SEO wizard built in ... it's a no brainer !

As a Web Developer someone recently asked me to add some stuff to their Wix website. Sure, it's simple and easy to use, but it turns out I really don't like Wix at all and will probably never use it again. It only allows you to do very basic things and quickly reaches its limit as soon as you try something different.

@@agentmikster44 I hear you on that one. Same goes for things like DNN with themes with built in "Squarespace" like edititors... 90% of the time I just want to edit the HTML as it would have been much faster than trying to get it to work with the built in editor. Granted I think if all you want is a really basic thing then it's good enough.

Tried using WordPress for several years, I always failed miserably and would outsource the work.
2015 got introduced to Wix and never looked back. We have built several businesses and operated them all via Wix and the website and UI are amazing.
The last 2 websites I built on my own. Everyone in our circles didn't believe that we spent something less than 29$ on it! We handle 5000 transactions on that site monthly, it's seamless, beautiful and professional! It's better than some of the companies who spent 5-10k $ on their platforms.
I mostly update my wix default images via creatives, pics and videos from CANVA pro. Wix & Canva have transformed our brand building capabilities. ✌

Thanks for this video….I did watch it after investing myself in creating one on square space. I felt a bit overwhelmed with WIX and frankly, just found SS much more aesthetically pleasing. I am an artist and coach/consultant, so beauty was a deciding factor for me in presenting my studio online. It was my first time making a website (super late to the game). The work is cumbersome…yet, another factor with SS is that the template forces one to think more clearly and methodically about one's business. So its not just a data input process - but a creative process when building one. This I appreciated very much. Thank you for your video…at this point feels like I made the right choice…we'll find out more later...

Excellent content Jimmy, I just subscribed. I took the poll and agree with the poll results. Squarespace has design perfected, wix as well as weebly aren’t even in the same class. Wordpress wouldn’t even load lol. But considering there are 1.5 billion websites on the internet the sad truth is your site is likely to never get viewed let alone significantly noticed. I’m not being a downer here, I had a successful site with excellent page ranking but find that’s rarely the case with many folks who can pay a lot of money to be unnoticed and disappointed. So Wordpress with its $45.00 a year personal plan is about what a site is worth in my humble opinion; a cheap hobby. Thanks for the great advice looking forward to more.

I see many comments about word press which I think was good some years ago but is getting a little outdated as well as the fact that some plugins are not compatible with other and causes your site to break. You can spend hours on word press to delete the plugin that is causing the problem when you could be designing a site, this is where the others come into play.

Squarespace every time. It's user friendly and allows people with no knowledge to use it. You can then take people that know a little code and use the same platform to do evern more, and then if you're ready to pay for a pro or you become one, you can take control of all the code yourself and go advanced.

There are paid and free themes available across the internet for WordPress and elementor builder for WordPress is awesome. I have experience doing web designs for startups and ecommerce stores and I can tell you that WordPress although looks overwhelming, has more features and customization options any other tool in the market. Appreciate the video!
I am currently editing my SquareSpace (7.0) website and in my opinion it is a UX nightmare. Making the simplest edits is so over complicated that it's shocking. Example: I want to refresh my site so I chose a pretty new template. I am simply trying to replace the template images with my own, replace the text with my own text, etc. Seems like a logical strategy...but oh no.
I am a professional designer that basically learns software for a living and I cannot figure out basic editing functions. Yikes. A simple 1 day website refresh is now on day 3 with nearly zero progress. I cannot recommend a platform that has made such illogical UX choices for it's users.

squarespace's whole USP is their "award winning templates" but i couldn't find a single template that i liked!!! it only showed me 1 page of templates, and at the bottom there was a link to their old templates. i found a lot of the templates looked the same, they seemed to be recycled with different fonts and colour schemes.
i'm setting up a website for a family member and found this gorgeous wix theme called adalene. it looks so sophisticated, elegant and perfect for the vibe they're going for. i also LOVE that you can add video on the homepage for free, and how you can really customise the look you're going for.
we've been using wordpress for a couple years and it's honestly horrible. the themes are ugly, the editing functions are non-intuitive. you want to resize something but it messes up the whole page. a lot of time is spent fiddling on correcting small details.
i'm heavily leaning towards wix since a lot of reviews show that they have step by step instructions to guide you through making the website. a lot of reviews also say that apparently wix's seo is better than squarespace's. i really hope that's true.
there are add ons like photo galleries that look quite useful. if i can't find hard evidence that wix's seo is actually worse than it claims, then we'll build our new website on there.

Thank you, this video has been helpful in leaning about website building for someone like myself. I've been tasked by my school alumni organization to update and modernize their website. It was built many years ago and had not been updated since 2012, except for announcements of our annual meetings. A question I have is: using the webhosts that are mentioned in this video, can one "transfer" content from one webhost platform to one these platforms (Wix, Squarespace or Wordpress) to take advantage of features offered or pricing ? Is it possible to archive old content from one platform to these webhosts? Are these webhosts satisfactorily secure if one wanted to keep separate content for members only and not for general viewing? Thank you for your reply.

      @peterolugbemi9362 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello Ted, yeah it's possible to transfer information and content from some of these webhosts to another. In some other cases it's not possible. It depends on each platform and webhost.
Also it's definitely possible to create some sort of members areas using these platforms where people can have access to a certain information only after they meet a certain requirement
If you need more explanation then kindly state it

Wix looks better from an interactive website perspective, Squarespace for a instagram follower website perspective: as for the video itself, it gives a fair assessment of the features but I think the problem is you're judging the websites based on what templates were available rather than judging it for it's user interface: feels like you just threw content at it and said: okay, I'm done.
It looks like something you would throw together for a school project the designs look cookie cutter and like every typical drag and drop website out there. I would rather design it all myself.
Okay if you're not familiar with web design, but for me: I'd want to find a web host with more "competitive" pricing. By that I mean cheap.

The thing is, he's going from a perspective of a small business owner with no experience in creating a website wanting to quickly slap together one to have an online presence. Taking that context into account, templates are extremely important since it greatly reduces the amount of time and experience needed to have a decent website running.

On the downside part of Professional plan for Squarespace you could add the great Marketing, SEO and Google Ads Credit it provides which the normal plan doesnt and could be really good for a first year.
    Loved the video btw

i agree with much you say about square space. Their ecommerce shop page is very crude and not modifable. The collections block on the shop page is annoying if you want more than a grid. You can't do addons in the shop collections block section.

People talk so much about plug ins, SEO, coding (what's that for, what's that?) and terms which would be nice to have a quick explanation; one guy's review said that Wordpress gets hacked a lot, and then, most of these videos don't mention that issue ...

Is there a follow up video or did I miss the part on how to get a host for the website? Please paste any links. Thank you for all your help.

I am in the insurance business and hired a webdesigner to build my website. I specifically asked for a site that was so easy to manage that I could do all the changes myself: he chose Word Press. What a nightmare! Just trying to make some minor changes in the slider revolution has taken hours. I totally regret it and just wish I could migrate to something easier and forget all the tech mumbo jumbo, i.e. Javea Script CSS, plugs in, etc. Your video just made me realized I made a huge mistake and should have done the whole thing myself in Square Space or Wix. Now I have a website in three languages and no clue on how to migrate to another platform without making a mess. :(

Great video. Can any Squarespace users comment on domain / page loading speeds? They have a 'showcase' page listing various domains that they host and several of them are quite slow to display. Is page loading speed related to the business v personal account the user opted for? Slower for the 'personal' accounts? thx

Hi Jimmy. Thanks for all your work on this and we benefit. This is a bit long but please read. My experience w/SquareSpace and advise to others. Better to have all your images ready w/correct dimensions and renamed for SEO. And have your 'about page' etc ready to go. I opened up an account and was overwhelmed by what it really takes - Thought and TIME! SS also provides a LOGO maker and you dont need to pay. That's great. Big takeaway is read all you can first re setup. I had the 7.0 version and realized I want the 7.1. AND once you create the 7.0 you cant just transfer it over. I do know 7.1 protects someone from right clicking and copying your image. That is big and it may also be more user-friendly. Do you know if you set up a POD (print on demand) service, a person could choose their own print company and not use SS's printers? I have been trying to find this answer out. I like the idea of Shopify. I'll check it out. Also, I also got my domain from GoDaddy so I am not beholden to one site.

Jimmy!!! You have no idea how helpful this video is. I even feel like watching it twice. I only have one question, do any of these three platforms have bilingual sites? It seems wix offers bilingual domains, but I don't know about wordpress and squarespace...

    • @spanishpropertyconsultants
      @spanishpropertyconsultants ปีที่แล้ว

I don't think squarespace has that facility, wordpress has a multi lingual plugin and obviously the easier site builders for this are Site123 and Webador.
