Roger was not able to achieve the " all time " record but he was a magician and there never was and most likely never will be another with the combination of artistry, fluidity, magic , racket skills and court IQ like Roger.

When you see how difficult it is for the onehanded backhand to be competitive in modern tennis (very few in the top 100, only two in top 20, and among them Tsitsipas is struggling a lot with this shot), it also gives an interesting perspective on Roger's game. To be able to stay that good in Djokovic and Rafa era was pretty insane.
Too true. A sport has to be truly lucky to be incarnated in a person. With the Fed, tennis didn't just get lucky; it turned magical. Fed's game will forever remain the sport's gold standard.
As for the all-time record, it's been pretty clear to me for some time now. Fed is and will always remain the greatest *player* to have played the game while Djoko will remain the game's greatest _winner_ for a long time to come.
Actually he did achieve and surpass most records of his time, but it is more accurate to say he was surpassed by Nadal and Djokovic. He did handicap himself from around 2008 playing with a smaller and more outdated racket and it was only in 2014 he changed and eventually he mastered that racket only by 2017.
Nevertheless, such exquisite shot making, movement, and overall complete package and genius will never be seen again maybe.

Roger's artistry led many people to take up tennis and then realize that it wasn't as easy as he made it look 😊

Are you sure you mean this shot? Because there are two sidespin backhand slices, one to the left, one to the right. As a right-hander, its fairly common to hit a sidespin backhand that curves left but I think he's talking about the one that spins right here.

I think this is why he often struggled against Rafa cause his immense spin on left handed forehand could allow him to counter the sliced cross backhand

Only two men who had the most dangerous backhand slice is Federer and Lendl. Both these guys used them as weapons. I think Federer slice done the line is probably the hardest because he’s forcing you to hit cross court to his forehand and probably hitting is short because of the spin. And Lendl was heavy and it skipped stayed low and was penetrating the court. Players said it was like digging it out of the ground.
Roger might not have won grand slams more than his rivals but he was artistic among the three. You gotta admit that

The ball can’t possibly rotate on two axis once it’s in free motion off the strings. It’s an effect of one spin and a direction vector change.
When he tries to illustrate the spin on the ball, you can see the exact moment when his brain went 🤔😟😒🤔
Physical impossibility as he described. Free spinning ball can only have one axis of rotation.
That’s my favorite shot to hit and opponents never know what to do with it! I had no idea I was accidentally copying the Feds😂😂

It can't spin in 2 different directions at the same time. Law of physics.
We might see players and remind us of nadal or nole or anyone else. We will never see the artistry and effortless tenis of roger. The man was dancing when his opponents were running for their lives. That's why he is my goat . Even if nole goes for 30
What. I can hit the slice BH with side spin in my sleep but i never knew it was that devastating. I'm sure lots of guy's can do that. But I'll pay more attention to how it affects my opponent.
I used to hit my slices with this effect but my instructor "corrected" me out of it. I used to like the effect it had and I'm thinking of using it again.
Yes, why not just have both shots in your toolbox? (as long as it doesn't complicate your decision making on court)

First of all he was taking the ball very late while facing away from the net and playing this shot backwards.
The ball cannot rotate simultaneously around several axes; it can only rotate around one axis. This axis can be inclined, but still it is a single axis. The Worldclass coach should know this😅

Kind of, but the racquet is diagonally below rather than diagonally above the ball at contact, so its sidespin slice rather than sidespin topspin.

It’s actually a shot that most recreational level tennis players know how to hit. It is not that difficult. I think for some reason he just decided at some point in his career to start using it and become really good at it. It’s not a shot that a lot of other pro players rely on as much as Federer did.

@@Yungdil If you have been playing tennis for any amount of time, this is not a difficult shot to hit. It’s a slice with sort of a windshield wiper motion combined. Obviously, a recreational player is not going to be hitting it the way Roger Federer hits it, but that’s because he is Roger Federer, and we are recreational players who don’t have that kind of training. But yes, it’s fairly easy to hit. Any beginner can learn how to hit that shot.

@@Yungdil maybe it’s not clear what I’m saying. This backhand that Federer hits, with the combination of under spin and side spin, is an easy shot for a recreational player to learn and hit. It’s not a genius type of a shot. It’s a basic tennis stroke. I’m not saying a recreational player can hit it at his level because obviously he practices a lot. But it is an easy type of shot. I think that makes sense. And yes, any recreational player can learn to hit a topspin forehand. That is not a difficult shot either. I used to coach and teach tennis.

Actually it's not just because his wrist was bent, his wrist is bent on almost every shot he hits LOL... It's because he is slicing a ball above the waist... If the ball were below his waist the slice would spin the other way ... Simple physics pat
Do you mean the waist or the wrist? The wrist would make sense imo because the racquet has to extend diagonally upwards from his hand. The waist seems beside the point because you can hold your arm higher or lower and still andle your racquet either way.

Agreed but I wouldn't 4get Laver 's Rosewall's Connors' Navratilova's Graf's n Vinci's.
The "problem" with Graf's was that she didn't really have a topspin or hit-through BH; she sliced about 80% or more of what came to her BH side. Also, she didn't have quite as much variety (not to mention elegance) as Fed's slice. As for the others - well, Laver and Rosewall were net-rushers (in keeping with their times) and so was Navratilova. Connors was a baseliner but I've haven't seen much of his slicing. Vinci - I can't speak about having never watched her.

I think if roger would have developed flat backhand shot with more power, he would be much ahead of novak and nadal.And with the age, there was no scope left for this at his career end. With improved racket equipments , two handed backhand players nowadays can generate more power in their shot. So, serve and volley game has become an outdated techneque..
The fastest recorded two-handers and one handers are both a little over 100 mph, very similar speeds. So I'm not sure about more power on the two-hander. It is easier to control, though.
