      Looks like a struggle of a game and importantly do you think you can go pro now? My bet is no.

      @@paulbutterworth7707 why are you hating give him time and if he works hard he can definitely be a pro
      If he is young

      @@paulbutterworth7707it can even be a recreational league. There are various categories of play. He can play for certain rewards, even if he doesn't go pro.
      Moreover, he can play just for the challenge. That's completely reasonable. His choice.

  • @comedicmood2729
    @comedicmood2729 ปีที่แล้ว +249

    Hitting with depth is a standard rule. However most players in the park arent close to pro level. I play recreational & most ppl arent that mobile. So ironically playing short is very often an advantage.

    • @tn2567
      @tn2567 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      yep, rec level players in the world = 80-90%
      serious players in the world = 10-20%

    • @fwvw7056
      @fwvw7056 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I agree. Just to add something you already imply but the video doesn't explain about short balls. For recreational players it drains much more strength than play from side to side. Also technically we (low level recreational players) aren't technically good enough to attack the ball well when sprinting forward - side to side motions are more easy. Basically, any type of variety you give them the more problems they (we) have.

    • @Merro959
      @Merro959 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes- making unfit rec players run up and down the court pays off eventually 😂

    • @garrickrespress
      @garrickrespress ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say that pushing and pulling (seen at the pro level with drop shots) works well as long as variety is a part of your game. It is a great point that many recreational players don't want to move. I thought Patrick talks about hitting short & low. He was clear about the vulnerability of players. Aggression matters for (we) recreational players. I wish more tactical videos, like this were out there. I would love a deeper dive.

    • @docstranger9520
      @docstranger9520 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      A lot of players are so unfit they will actually complain about short balls as if you’re not playing ‘real’ tennis - ie the tennis they can play. Punish those players

    Great stuff! Another good reason to play cross is that the net is lower in the middle and the court becomes longer. So you you're less likely to hit out long or in the net.

    Can you do one on what is quickest way to improve, is it matches, drills, shadow swings, technique? 🙏

    • @vrsus3010
      @vrsus3010 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From experience, practice points can help with tactics. Drills will help with your mobility and adjusting to different circumstances and rallies can help improve your technique. This is how I do things myself, I don’t know if it applies to everyone

    • @ildarb813
      @ildarb813 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Depends on your level, I guess. If we talk about beginner, learning correct technique is the first thing. Correction of inappropriate muscle memory afterwards would be a hard task.

    • @meditationman415
      @meditationman415 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thinking about it, for me, having the right technique is the first step. Tomaz from Feeltennis has courses for each stroke at $100 per stroke, and they couldn't be better. Truly extraordinary. Then i have found that shadow swinging is super useful. Then not thinking about technique when i play Except, pronating the serve, and forehand. Which do not happen unless i consciously do it. And finally Concentrate on the tension in the body when playing , nothing else, particularly in matches. This helps to be very relaxed. And stops any forcing of shots.

    • @MarcoSolidx
      @MarcoSolidx ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The answer is:
      depends on your current level.
      Are you a beginner? Intermediate? Advanced?
      If you’re beginner it’s recommended you work on technique alone, don’t even try play matches.
      Intermediate (most of us here): little of everything, a good coach and competitive matches are way to go!
      Advanced: here your technique is already pretty good so good movement (needs decent physique) and tactics (mental) are key to get better

    This lesson helped me win against a better fore-hander than me, he wasn't mobile but everytime i played against his forehand he won those rallys, i changed tactics to cross between my backhand (which was better than his) against his which he always slice it, changed a quick direction and he couldn't reach it everytime; he was kind of mad tho.

    SX300 is a nice racket, light, doesnt hurt. Slow maybe thats why. Bought a second hand. Manuerable, safe to strike. Good spin. I have TA960 control on mains and Green Tour Polyfibre on crosses. Safety precaution against well talented guys. loved it. Back hand doesnt always become strong. Loved, love dunlop. I guess it is a better consistancy. Has one point where it delibrately bounces. Used a motorcyle chain oil to lube the strings and grommets. Now much pleasent to play. Very Slightly lost power.
    great other than backhand. Might be like 75 RA cant be bad right. Has a second hand cx200, thats probably what agassi would fall in love with. Good luck, any comments?

    If you know common tennis coach drills it might be possible to predict where they will return the ball depending on where you place it. because of the repetition involved in drills the programming is in the brain so could be possible to predict the return.I don't play tennis but was just watching it and wondered if this has been used before

    I love your channel. Thank you for posting all these great videos. Do you have a video or tips on what tactic to use when you play and suddenly became tired. I noticed in recreational matches players get tired at different times during the match, which makes them perform bad for a short time and often give another player time to gain back advantage. Kids have this dynamic too. After extreme tiredness the player will recuperate and suddenly start playing well again. More often, it will be too late as another player gained too much advantage. So what are the tips on playing during a few minutes of extreme tiredness?

      Always take your time between points and use towels to dry off your sweat between sets, stay hydrated, stay energized with snacks, and try to practice mindfulness to stay in the moment. One other tip I have found to help dramatically is holding your racket in your offhand lightly to give your dominant arm/hand time to rest and only hold the racket when actively playing.

    • @kaialoha
      @kaialoha ปีที่แล้ว

      Suddenly making a string of silly errors out of nowhere is a sign of brain fatigue due to dehydration. Drink water. Slow down.

    • @fwvw7056
      @fwvw7056 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First of all you have the tips already given. What I would do when tired is indeed not to engage in long rally's and if you feel you will be losing points anyway - at least make your opponent tired! The best way to do this is to make them move forward and backwards - it is way more tiring than side to side movements. So play one ball deep, then short, then deep (lob for example). If you are still in the point you can proceed with this.

    Good explanation. But there is one mistake. Patrick told that when Matteo plays his backhand long line the ball is coming to the backhand on the opponent but that will have to be on the forehand. I assume that Patrick thinks the opponent is right-handed.
