The Man from Nowhere (2010) has a line that tops that. It's one of my top (if not the top) action films. I can't decide which is top since I just love em. Taken isn't my favorite but chances are it inspired a lot of my favorite action films

I would say this movie is scary in the sense that it could actually happen, as opposed to being chased by a monster or something less realistic, like you never really see the particulars of what was done to his daughter from her view, just what he discovers about that world as he goes through it and what's being done to others, where you can deduce what happened to her from different people's situations, pretty genius level writing really, because they could have gone super direct and graphic, but I feel is more impactful how it was done.

This might be my favorite reaction ever. Not just yours, any. The way you responded to Lenore / Lenny made me so happy. I was married to someone like her for 18 years, her name is literally Karen which I think is apropos. You literally lifted my heart with that.
20 years ago oh, my daughter was 13 and some gang members tried to lure her out of the store we were in. She got scared and ran back to me. She told me what happened. She didn't leave my side. 510 fast and she saw one of them alone. He did one of those head nods with his mouth open, I yelled she's only 13. He said she told us she was 18. I responded no she didn't.
5 minutes later one of the other ones came up to me and apologized saying his brother just got out of prison and they got him drunk. I asked how that was supposed to make me feel better. He said what can I do, I said get your brother and your friend and get the fuck out of here. He said done. And they left.
Needless to say I felt like Liam Neeson in Taken, my daughter did not leave my side for 2 weeks. She had her arm looped through my arm no matter where we went. If I got out to put gas in my truck, she got out with me. She's 33 now and apparent of her own, but she still treats me like I'm Superman.
I am disabled from covid-19, it destroyed me physically. But if someone tried to mess with my daughter, they would struggle to elude my grasp. I don't have all of his particular set of skills, but I have enough of them that I would find them and I would do the same thing he did. I would just be limited to doing it with a weapon.
You should watch him in Rob Roy sometime it's based on a true story and he is brilliant in that as well. Thank you for putting a smile on my face this morning you absolutely Rock

Rob Roy would traumatise this reactor because she'd have not a single clue what would be going on. I'm not saying you need to be an expert on Scottish history but it's a window on the Highland Clearances and a really ugly chapter that is a scar on the collective Scottish memory which she'll never be able to identify with except Liam Neeson = good guy and Tim Roth = evil grapeist with typical goldfish mouth agape emotional incontinence. Just a dangerous movie to suggest to 'react' to.

Liam Neeson was an Irishman who was an ex-boxer.
Went on to become helluva actor and also an Oscar nominee (Best Actor in Schindler's List, 1993).
20 years plus into his career, the TAKEN franchise made him the new thinking man's action hero.
The phone call scene is unforgettable and major selling point of the movie in it's first trailer.
As well it's a real human being striking out against the real life travesty of human trafficking.
Following the film's success, there was a much bigger crackdown by authorities on sex slavery.
Shoutout to you for watching the unrated version.
Part 2 is as good as the first film.
Part 3 is decisive for not being a good final chapter.
There was a prequel tv series on NBC (2018-2019) for 2 seasons.
The creators of TAKEN are Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita, Leon The Professional)
& Robert Mark Kamen (The original Karate Kid films, 1984-94) who wrote many gems together:
The Transporter films with Jason Statham (2002-2008),
Kiss of The Dragon (2001) & Unleashed (2005) with Jet Li and Columbiana (2011).
Check these out if you can.

Taken was basically an early version of John Wick that came a few years before. The hype for this movie wasn't quite John Wick levels, but it was pretty epic when it came out.

its disturbing how accurate this movie is, when i first saw it i was surprised they had the balls to call out the Albanian mafia they deal with most of the trafficking in Europe and most countries especially france ignore it and even cover it up to not look bad its vile and most people would rather pretend it doesn't happen or its less of a problem than it is

If you want to track traffickers, follow the motor yachts with Arabic or Russian owners especially at events like the Monaco Grand prix. The difference between the Arabs and Russians when it comes to trafficking is the Arabs make the women into one of many wives and the Russians pimp them as prostitutes. Of course they aren't the only races doing that but they would certainly have the monopoly #V4CR

The Auction: "Can you guys just not get girlfriends?"
It's not just about the girls. It's about doing something reprehensible and evil... and getting away with it... because they are rich and powerful.
For some people, after attaining a certain level of wealth and power it becomes about exercising that power in ways that proves they're invincible.

This movie reminds me of the story of Miriam Rodriguez, a mexican woman who's 20 year-old daughter, Karen, was abducted and killed in 2014 by the cartel. Miriam then proceeded to hunt down 10 members who had been involved in the abduction and killing over the next three years, telling a friend "I don’t care if they kill me. I died the day they killed my daughter. I want to end this. I’m going to take out the people who hurt my daughter and they can do whatever they want to me.” Sadly she was gunned down on her driveway in a drive-by (she was walking with crutches at this time since she had recently broken her foot chasing a suspect) by some cartel mebers who had just broken out of prison. Her husband found her lying on the driveway hand inside her purse grasping the handle of her pistol.

@@mariaghiglieri78 It has nothing to do with nerdiness. A 17-year old girl in 2008 who likes U2 is pushing the suspension of disbelief too far. It would have been more believable if the girls were following a younger rock band, a boy band, or even a DJ. Certainly not U2 because all the dudes they would have met in the concerts would have been middle-aged nerds trying to be cool.
I myself went through a U2 phase when I was in my teens in the 80s but lost interest in them in the early 90s.

her "You came for me?" is so devestating to hear. She was so out of hope. Resigned to her fate. So sad

13:54 A quite literal Offensive Driving Class. They actually exist. For convoys and motorcades etc...

I am craving an Interstellar reaction. Honestly, any solo movie with Hanz Zimmer on music. Interstellar, Spirit, The DaVinci Code, or Inception.

4:40 Currently vego, but my mother being a butcher's daughter I used to eat a lot of steak blue (lightly seared but mostly raw). It really depends on the type and cut of meat, how much fat there is, how much marbling there is, etc..
