The RTX 4070 has been a rocky launch, now if you have to have a brand new GPU whether thats because you want warranty or the newest features and the 4070 is currently the best option your price range. I'm going to show what I feel is the choice to go for most people in regards to the 4070. While not perfect this option may benefit you in more ways than you think.
I will also be following this up with a video for the generation of the last several generations of 70 series cards from Nvidia.

Esa gpu es todo metal o tiene algo de pastico ? Realmente mantiene frío? Saludos bro
I picked up this card. Needed HDMI 2.1 for my new LG C2 oled Bedroom TV/ PC monitor. Not super happy about the price, but I did get D4 for free with it ( which I was planning on buying anyway)
Any thoughts on the vrm cooling? Why wouldn't MSI add a couple extra thermal pads to the vrm to heatsink contact to keep it under 90c at heavy loads etc
Hey there, so it looks like they would have had to redesign the cooler as right above those vrms there is just fins. Technically they still could have run pads touching bare fins but would not have performed much better if at all. The vrms in questions are hav a max temp of 150c and while maybe not the best decision they are still well within their temp range
still chilling with my 7 years old msi 1060 6gb oc, never had any problem so far despite constant 2100mhz overclock every gaming session. gotta love msi reliability
Jeez, nice OC! Poor girl working hard. That's awesomr that it's still trucking that well!
haHAHA "MSI RELIABILITY"? that was hilarious
@@Iaretreytrey well can your gpu live as long as mine with 150% power, +500mhz oc, and +400mhz memory oc?
@@Bot-pc7uu bro same lol mfs a tank
@@Bot-pc7uu Thats msi of old. Nowadays their quality might be shit. In general every manufacturer quality differs every year. No ones consistently good or bad.
Picked up the Asus 4070 Dual OC - seemed like they had a price error in Canada and got it for $680 CAD ($505 USD) but they quickly fixed the price back to $819. For comparison 3080s and 6800s are still priced higher than the 4070 in Canada right now
Whhaaaat? Lmao 🤣 nice work! I would say thats actually a fair price at $505 USD
Yeah, I two got a Asus dual 4070, so it will fit in my micro built. I got mine for $ 549.00, which was great for me. I finally could update my 1080 in my micro rig.
thats also a decent price! nice!
@@lowlight8466 is it standard 8 pin power or 16 pin nvidia power connector?
Yes I was looking at a 6950 and couldn't believe the price
I got the Ventus 2X because I have 3.5" HDD's in my case that limit GPU space to around 280mm. It's a cool and quiet card but I'm a bit wary about the lack of cooling on the VRM, but MSI has assured me that being stressed it's within tolerances and it's nothing to worry about with normal gaming use.
So this is correct, everyone is freaking out over this but the vrms stay at 100c or less. The vrms are rated for up to 150c, so they are well within spec
@@BlueprintPC in the long run would you still recommend this card?
@@noufelllam5519 I just got one and im hoping the cooling isint going to fuck my gpu after i use it into the shadow realm
Hey I just got the Ventus 2X and I was wondering if I did the right choice, how is it going for you?
@@Sielenify TBH it's fine. I've had quite a bit of back and forth with MSI about the lack of cooling on the VRM, but 8 months in there's nothing to complain about really. Upgrading from a GTX 1080 I got what I wanted, which is twice the performance, the price stings a little though, but that's Nvidia ...
Got the Palit Dual, where I live its considerably cheaper than any other option
Jump from 1660 super to this and I’m amazed
So does the ventus 3x 4080 have the same issue with the thermal pads missing and high vrm temps? I cant find anything online about it
Haven't heard that about the 4080. The 4070ti does from I have seen.
@@BlueprintPC it does have the thermal pads? Sorry I'm just feeling a little buyer's remorse. I'm enjoying the card just afraid of it over heating it's self
is the 3X OC a noticeable performance difference? I assume no, but i always wonder if the OC stamp really does anything at all haha.
just a factory binning process...they all oc/troubleshoot the cards at the factory the ones that sustain the highest clocks and have better voltage tolerances probably also yield better thermals/hotspot activity than a non "OC" card. Other than that its nothing different. You just pay the 20-30$ upfront for a factory binned "base card" vs paying the shoulda woulda coulda 50-100$ extra at times worse(strix) for a card like an xtrio/master, or a hellhound or nitro+ in the case of AMD. Which typically offer even higher vbios/tdp ranges that yield 3dmark scores ranges above the standard TDP/Reference options. But if you dont really care about 3dmark scores or bs like that or fully maxing out AAA titles than OC arent really that valid/ideal. Opposed to an undervolt and quiter system under load esp for lifetime system health/v droop etc.
I just bought the 4070 ventus 2x, the 3x is more expensive em Brazil... making a jump from 1050 Ti, also got the R7 5800x to go with it, hope I got a good pairing.
Yeah that should work very nice

So this card offers less cooling right, so how would this effect the card overtime? and what are the cards heat limit ? just got a ventus 2x but now im worried about cooling efficiency
It should be fine long term. Seems like it is well below what people consider cooking hot temps.
@@PhillipJermakian I just cranked up fan speeds, better to replace fans than the GPU!
@Zefhehasabigolpp Ya I did that on my ancient 7850. Was not hard.
@@PhillipJermakian never said it was, MSI afterburner came in clutch
@Zefhehasabigolpp sorry, 47 years old now, I forget tinkering with computers does not scare people like they used to.
When doing the comparison, please consider the decibels and degrees. E.g., Gigabyte's Windforce triple fan design is famous for it's silent and efficient cooling. They were the first to perfect 3-fan multi-directional spin GPU cooling that haven't changed substantially since their GTX 780 Ti GHz Edition. Recently, I saw deals all over EU online dealers for MSI RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Ti, but I was suspicious. I would pay premium for better cooling, as 2.0 slots kinda imply that radiator is thinner compared to 2.5--3.0 cards. Currently I have ASUS DUAL 3070, which I have moded with noctua fans, as it's stupidly loud in it's original thermal design. I believe card partners got a bit lazy during crypto and covid years...at least in the budget department.
Hey there, I will try to include this information with benchmarks. I appreciate the input. The windforce cards are pretty good, I currently have 3 of them floating around. So as a side note, if you are looking at a 4070ti I would deffinitely get the biggest/best cooler you can find. For this 4070 that I have the dual slot has been plenty fine keeping it in the mid/upper 60s. As for the noise, it honestly has not been an issue. They updated the fan design with this generation amd seems to be good.
the 3070 FE needed an UV to mitigate coil whine and higher temps when near max tdp on that card which lead to audible fans at 70%+ rpm ranges. Though the x trio and Strix options were overkill it leads to a much better Experience overall. I was able to trade for a strix for me the cooling/qol noise and overall singal/input strength of the gpus overall build quality is what could definitely determine choosing from one brand/model over another. After already being willing to spend upwards of 500-600$ on a gpu as it is IMO it should come with some of these QOL improvements. Unless someone has ITX/SFF needs. Even now if the difference in price between a 2 fan 4070S and a 3 fan one is 30-50$ id say go with the option that comes with a duel bios and 3 fans for the 50$ extra since it will be pretty quiet and potentially OC to near 4070TI ranges. The same way i was able to push my 3070 strix to 3070ti numbers on 3dmark. Plus vrm/vram hotspots have been issues for a while now on these faster gpu going back a few generations.
So is this better then the founders edition?
recently picked up the 3x oc 4070 to pair with my Ryzen 7 7800x3d. Got it for a decent deal, and overall I'm excited to put it in my system once I get all the parts to build it lol.
i have the same cpu and a ti version, very happy with it
I picked up one of these used recently for around $230. I was just curious how it compared to the reference model. Weird it maxes out at 220v instead of 240, but whatever. Either way its a decent upgrade for me.
Holy st!t, where did you find that deal?
@@BlueprintPC eBay. Just got lucky. It was used, but still a bit cheaper than average.
Be careful with that voltage; it seems a bit low. Go and check it with GPU-Z and look at the bus interface; that should be in x16 and nothing under
Heard a lot about hot VRMs but how hot do they really get when gaming? And also does that heat translate to lower lifespan? Just curious, ordered the card to see for myself but you probably know this better than me😅. Liked and subscribed!
Well thank you first of all, so while MSI should have did a better job with the upper vrms. It's not the end of the world, they hover around 95-100c under really heavy workloads. The vrms themselves are rated for 150c, so well within spec. Technically yes it will affect life span, but we're talking it still shouldnt fail for Years! I would start worrying after 5 years or more
@@BlueprintPC Thanks for the answer! 😊 I probably have another GPU at that point so should be safe in that case. I'm thinking around 4yrs maybe before switching.
its much worse in the case of 2 fan cards trying to max out nv boost that wont see an undervolt or optimized OC in their lifetime esp if theyre in ITX chassis, or systems with poor cooling or lower quality PSU and 12v rail operation. In a proper rig 4 years+ and i doubt youll see any major aspects of issues the way a card with a lower quality psu/cooling lifecycle will engage voltage creep and potentially vram hotspots. IK theres ppl with ampere cards already in this scenario that wanted to air cool their hot cpus or top mount their AIO that have done considerable wear/tear to their vram/vrms on their cards no different than when the 5700xt launched XD from reference to AIB cards. Huge VRM/Vram hotspots. Not much has changed and on top of these inherent aspects with high data/memory buffer gpus. Signal/input stability is still a huge aspect or priority to me which is often missed.
I have a zotac 3060 12gb and im looking for a newer models of gpu should i get ghis one ?
Are u playing 1440p
EVGA left for a reason.
No arguments there, just shows they had real character. They saw what was coming and didn't wanna be a part of it
Nvidia wants to be apple. That why the reference cards keep improving.
Amazing they did not go to amd.
And needs the help and I think would pay evga better.
Still sad though. EVGA made phenomenal cards.
so.. is it any good? 30 series ventus was not good. Hot and loud. Looks like this one might have better fans. but i dont have one. so you tell me.. ?? 30 series gaming x (trio) has been good. how does 40 series ventus compare?
No get the Asus msrp 4070s or even the gigabyte ones they are made better
Hey there, so for me it has been good so far. The temps hang in the mid 60s(c) and the noise is barely noticeable, even when using an open chassis. obvious do plenty of research but for me all has been well.
I have the Ventura 3070 it doesn’t get hot and it’s not loud. It’s about airflow most the people I’ve seen complain have a tight case with terrible airflow
Replaced my zotac gtx 1080 with rtx 4070 msi ventus trio...oh boy what a boost
I took the msi trio bc of dual slot and 8 pin connector. It`s even the same size of gtx 1080 FE, slightly longer.
Congrats on the upgrade
I replaced my 1070 with a Zotac 4070. It is really a big upgrade in performance at 1440p gaming. Yes the msrp is a bit high but just can’t hold out another few years on the 1070.
@@Mcatz7 yeah. 1070 showing it age.
10 series are the best series of the decade imo.

I upgraded to the rtx 4070 from the founders edition gtx 1080 as well. It's a little over an inch longer. I had to bend the metal in my rig to fit it 😅
I wouldn't buy that card. It has a cooling issue that causes its VRM MOSFETs to run at temperatures above 100°C. One could argue that those MOSFETs are rated at 140°C, but they would be disregarding the fact that components get hotter as they get dusty.
i really hate RGB as I have astigmatism, i might look into this card looks nice
hi can you tell my is black plate metal or plastic
plastic
If the tdp/vbios/card design cant sustain IDEAL vrm/vram temps....i say its always a PASS and just go for a base/price model with an undervolt. Unless you can find an ideal AIB design that offers these things i wouldnt even consider pressing for a max oc or to hit 3dmark scores a full gpu/sku higher just isnt worth it to me to try/risk damage. If this is the case....then id largely consider AIMING for a SKU higher specifically for this reason...if youre already going to uv and not push max OC for maxed out AAA gaming or benchmark/ladder climbing. You may as well get more performance if you wait a few pay periods longer for the next SKU higher or 16gb of vram with a 4080 super. Or amd card like a 7800xt 16gb if the 4070 is your budget or the 7900 series. The main caveat for owning an NV card is mostly for the PVE/DLSS3/FG QOL benefits as well as the caveats NV offers to creators. Other than that outside of raytracing being enabled, from an mmo or multiplayer shooter standpoint AMD has more vram to age better to YIELD frame buffers/memory bandwidth specifically for these purposes as well. So youre really buying into NV for a "now" or most you can get out of your "NOW" experience, and IMO amd offers a bit more if youre not willing to invest in the process of selling your gpu and upgrading every 3-4 year cycle. Just IMO if youre intent on owning a gpu for 5+ years typically it has to be relatively HEAVY hitting out of the starting gate....or expect to buy a higher range SKU as a generation ages. AKIN to a 550$ 6950xt and pushing it via uv/oc.
What are the compromises?
High price and not as good as 3080 at 4k
I had to buy this because I bought it through purchasing power it's a program that my work has and many other workplaces I think as well. You purchase what you want and they take the money out of your check each week like about 15 bucks so I bought this card I hope it's good my CPU is a i7 7700k I'm sure that it's going to bottleneck it quite a bit but it's all I can do for now hopefully I see a small increase from my 1080 t.i.
Well congrats on the new GPU! So yes it will bottleneck. TIP: MAX OUT EVERY SEVETTING POSSIBLE, Bottlenecking reduces FPS, your still going to get good fps. So max out the settings and get the best graphics with the fps your processor can churn out!
The ventus 4070 is not the best msrp 4070, those would go to the Asus model followed up by the gigabyte models. Think there was a article by techpowerup that mentioned msi not adding enough thermal pads and using low end components for power delivery.
I have not seen this but thank you for mentioning this. I will try to find that article and dig a little deeper!
