Hi i dont do social media. But i do youtube :) love your work. Im sure i can learn more from u. Im greatfull that i found your video. The crimp is the only thing i didnt know how to make. I never learned how to make jewellery. I was sitting on the beach asking the Great Spirt to give me a gift so i can create my own job(business) i woke up one day and my hands was making jewellery. I use to ask myself if my hands are possessed.. i made a lot of costume jewellery and i love elegance. I also teach others how to make costume fashion jewellery. Oneday i want to open my own shop :)
Absolutely bloody brilliant!!!!! I'm making a bracelet with .8mm cord and have been going crazy trying to figure out how to finish it. Lots of people say wrap the cord - easier said than done!!! Wrapping around another piece of metal should be easier. Can't wait to try it out tonight!!!
Thanks so much for this. I got my 12 year old a jewellery making kit and we looked up bracelet making only to find every video mentioning crimps, of which there are none in her set! I typed in how to make a bracelet without crimps and landed here. Brilliant. Improvising with what did come in the kit and using a darning needle to wrap the wire we managed to create a somewhat roomy crimp which none-the-less solved her problem so that she can attach the clasp (once crimp is flattened with the pliers!) 😂 A very happy 12 year old now has her first homemade piece of jewellery. Thanks again 🙏🏼
Hi Heather, so nice to meet you! I came across ur channel today, boy am I so glad I did! I am a beginner in wire wrapping. I have been practicing, practicing, practicing my little butt off. I am getting pretty darn alright, if I do say so myself, and it is SOOOOO RELAXING!!! I LOVE your work! Happy Holidays to you and your family. All the Best i 2021 xo
These aren't real crimps so I just used flat nose (chain nose) pliers. These work for lightweight necklaces but the ideal is to get real crimps and a crimping tool: amzn.to/3oGt9S3 and crimps: amzn.to/3pL7B5r
Hi, Heather I was wondering if you know how to make a 3 hole clasp or 2 Just so I can make layered bracelets. Ty I think I have an idea but still not quite sure and I know you will have a trick up your sleeve. Thanks so much and luved this video .
You can do something similar to the bar with 3 loops in this tutorial, but with a thicker wire or bend back the wire to reinforce it. I'll do a sketch for you. th-cam.com/video/1SXgDKGnO6c/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for watching. It really depends on the strength of the wire. As long as the wire isn't too hard it should work. When it is softer it will mold onto the tiger tail better. Harder wire might slip off.
Thanks for your special request. I have a couple designs for dragonflies that could be used as pendants on necklaces: th-cam.com/video/dg8tktQ-Zm8/w-d-xo.html and this one that you can make, but don't omit ring part that goes around the ear: th-cam.com/video/RWUj9fR1bJ4/w-d-xo.html
Hi Heather, such a helpful tutorial. You have saved me from a headache. I want to buy crimp tubes, but then which size? Every handmade project is different, so not always the same sized crimp tube will match. I'm a bit confused about your pinned comment. You say that these may not be strong enough for heavy-weight necklaces and to check out for actual crimps. Could you please explain? Can I use stainless steel or sterling silver wire, and would you recommend 18/20 gauge, strong enough to hold any necklace? Thanks a lot for your time and help.
Thanks Anita. The DIY crimps are still a bit experimental. You can test them on the materials you have. Regular crimps do a kind of "double crimp" where you squeeze them then fold them over and squeeze them again. This makes extra resistance on the cord.
Thank You So Much Mrs. Heather I Needed this! My Tiger Tale doesn't say the Crimp Size on my Wire.. I tried making a Necklace and the Crimp Tube Broke to Small.. I'm confused on Sizes for Crimps Thank You again so much..
Crimps are not expensive to buy unless of course you buy branded which is always costly but this is a great way if you need a bigger sized crimp. I use the tiniest crimps that will fit my wire because i want them unseen.
Hi Jennifer. I use them with the tiger tail, which is like fishing line except it has wire inside. Just be careful not to pinch them to hard with the fishing line.
I was given a ton of crimp beads and don't know how to use them. Do you have to use crimp pliers or can you just use regular pliers? If I have to use crimp pliers, I'll just use your method.
Thank you for the crimp making tip. i was noticing that when i press on each side of the spring, the wire is separating and spring is staying but looks like it is coming undone. Did i do something wrong? thanks
Thanks for watching. If your wire is strong enough, it should be fine and stay in place. Make sure to make the springs as small and tight as possible. You can always send me a pic at info@heatherboydwire.com so I can have a look.
is copper or stainless wire better? i only have stainless and it's impossible to cut or bend it (20 gauge), am i using wrong tools (too small) or is stainless not suitable for weak women like me? Excellent video btw
Thank you. Stainless is very hard to work with. Copper would work better as it would squeeze into the tiger tail better. I've never tried these with stainless.
I've been buying crimps but find them all flimsy and liable to crumble under pressure. This looks like a simple solution. I'm off to give it a try. Thank you.
