    Browsing the photo albums my family had, seeing photos of me as a kid with my parents, I asked my mother what camera they used to take the shots because all of them was awesome photos. She got up, went to her room, came back and gave me my father's autoboy. I was super stoked. I love it! Your video inspired me to use it again. Thanks King Jvpes! ❤️

    Just found one for $5 at the local thrift store. Just finished shooting my first roll of film. Looking forward to the results.

    I had one of those and was quite impressed with it.
    I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants good images for a cheap price.
    Pros : Very fast AF with hardly any shutter button lag.
    Very good image quality and sharp lens.
    Fastish lens @ f2.8.
    Takes 2 x AA batteries.
    Cheapish to buy.
    Cons : No pre focus indicator or focus lock until the shot is taken.
    Noisy winding motor ( which is drowned out in a busy city).
    A bit bulky, doesn't fit in a jeans pocket but does fit coat pocket.
    PS its autoboy in USA and af35m in the rest of the world.

    It was an excellent beginners camera. Simple to operate, inexpensive and it took excellent photos without having to invest heavily into a SLR camera. The flash covered the entire frame without a central hotspot.

    5:26 I was like "I hope the lights in the window show" and they did, awesome shots, I just picked up my auto-boy back up, I got it three years ago when I first started shooting film and never put any rolls through because the battery door had issues, fast forward to now where I have more experience 😈 and I can find a work around to the janky door, I'm currently shooting my first roll of Kodak gold 200 through it, excited for the results!

    My first ever film camera, lol. I'm honestly stoked to see you have one too. I was following you on my old account for a good while, but since I ended my vpet vlogs, I decided it was time to start fresh. I hope you make more vids about this camera! 💖

    Haha what's awesome about this camera is it's the one my grandfather and my mom shot all our family pics on! Old school birthday parties and baby pics, this camera is cheap but has a lot of nostalgia for me. I'd love to get my hands on one of em again just for fun. I found a canon telemax af cam at a thrift store for $3. Works like a dream for just on the go, good to carry around a point and shoot and since it's a bit newer than this one, the af is really good plus that built in flash. 😇😇

    I was also about to comment that colour negative film has huge latitude and to some people's eyes will even look better overexposed, but the pulling definitely gives it a distinctive look. I'd still try overexposing though, it gives a lovely pastel tone.

    • @KingJvpes
      @KingJvpes  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      EMMA I really wanna try that pastel look you talk about! Any tips on exposure settings? If I shoot 400 should I set the asa 200 or even 100?

    • @emmavlogstv
      @emmavlogstv 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't comment on Superia in particular, I've never actually used it, but 200 seems to be the 'safe spot' a lot of people go for :) George from Negative Feedback has had some great results with Pro 400h at 100 if you haven't already seen the video where he shoots at the beach, but obviously it's a little less practical. Portra is the most famous for its pastel tones when overexposed - I just love that look. Great shots from today by the way, I love what you're doing.

    • @KingJvpes
      @KingJvpes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EMMA thanks Emma! And alright I'll be sure to try it out! I don had any portra rn but I am gonna pickup a roll or two of Fuji 400h. I'll try that out at 200 and see what I get! Haha thanks for the tip!

    Very cool how this camera is clearly descended from the Canonets, and serves as a bridge between that era and the later more streamlined point-and-shoots. And you look great without the mustache.

  • @castm647
    @castm647 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Nice shots! Overexposing colour film is actually really safe, and a lot of people do it on purpose (including me). I think it's supposed to give you slightly richer colours (although if you WAY overexpose it they can shift a bit I think?), but also it just makes the pictures a bit safer in case your camera calculates the wrong exposure, because UNDER-exposing generally looks bad.

    I just found one in Jacksonville at a thrift store for $1.99 with a 40% tag sale reduction. It’s actually in pristine condition where even the label that says PASSED looks like new. Bought batteries and took some pictures at Fernandina Beach using B/W film and they came out great. Very decent Camera.

    In the UK if you go thrifting, they ask lots of questions and make you feel uncomfortable because they think are buying cheap and selling for a profit.. also on eBay UK, the prices are over inflated. While in America you can pick up an old film camera for $3-8, here in the UK they milk you dry and won't sell for any cheaper.

    Dope video man! I love cheap film cameras, I came across a minolta freedom zoom 135mm at a goodwill that i got for $6 in amazing condition like a month ago that i love. I also just got a Hi-Matic AF2 that i shot for the first time yesterday i'm waiting to see how the film turns out cuz i've heard it's an amazing camera. it's weird minolta kinda took me over after i got the 700 they just keep popping up in my life lol

    • @wreckfilm
      @wreckfilm 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha word its kinda crazy lol i blame u bro. But man i love these cameras. If you can you should check out the Hi-maitc af2. it's a semi-auto point and shot. It'll expose for you but you still have to wind it yourself and you can manually turn the flash on or off

    • @KingJvpes
      @KingJvpes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Phototaku damn dude really wanna try that out!!!!

    • @wreckfilm
      @wreckfilm 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah definitely man, if you do beware though when you finish the roll of film it doesnt really give you any indication. The winding lever literally just locks when you wind the last shot. It gives you the feeling that it got stuck or something but DON'T force it. I found out the hard way thats how it lets you know. Ended up ripping the film right off of the canister and lost it :( there was no video on that particular camera so i thought it was broken but that's not the case at all lol

    I overexpose Superia Xtra 400 by one stop at ll the time. It looks good. Oh and keep your eyes out for the higher end model. I have the same camera but with an F 1.9 lens which I think was the fastest lens put on a point and shoot.

    I have this camera and wanted to test its functions before loading film and specifically with the rewinding mechanism. I haven’t loaded film but I pressed the rewind release button the bottom and slid the rewind button to rewind but the exposure counter doesn’t rewind backwards. Is this due to not having film loaded or a defect?

      Janine Lacap I get them developed at The darkroom lab! Search for them on google. They are try fast and reliable, also they are fair with prices. I've never had any more trust with a lab than I do with these guys. They really know what they're doing!
