  • We're spending the next few weeks living in Stockholm Sweden! After spending the year travelling the world, we wanted to take things a bit slower & we thought Stockholm would be the perfect place to do some slow travel. In this first episode, we travel to Stockholm, settle into our apartment & begin exploring the city! I hope you enjoy this vlog!

    Welcome! But why on earth would you buy bottled water in Sweden? The tapwater here is always drinkable and probably of a higher quality than the bottled kind.

    I could live there as so CIVILISED love it! Everyone so well dressed and dark doesn't bother me or the cold. Heating bills not sure of there. I am a warm mortal so that with good wool socks helps. I think they are healthy and I love the archipelago. Vasa Museum is wonderful and the attitude is perfect. Wholesome. I love the water everywhere and fish to eat. Unfortunately I visited with a grumpy partner which spoilt it but would love to go on my own.

    Kanelbulle (Cinnamon bun/roll) originate from sweden, and it's our most eaten pastries.
    And yes, Fika is as much as part of our culture as lets say, Siesta in spain and such.
    It's something you do at home, at town, at work, when visiting relatives and so on, you can invite your neighbour for fika, and most first dates in sweden are actully not Dinner dates, rather going for Fika to get to know eachother a bit better.
    Fika usually takes place between 11-15, but can happen any time ofcourse, but especially at work and such, it's like a break besides lunch, usually shorter, anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes where coworkers all can take a break, go to a lounge area at work, grab coffee and something to snack on, quite often "Kanelbulle" and talk away.
    If you are in the city, a Fika can be anything between 10 minutes to 3 hours sitting at a cafe, unlike US when I visited there, you won't get chased out of a coffee shop, unless it's closing or you'r hanging there without ordering anything, so it's perfect for a first date as it's a bit more casual then a dinner date, getting to know eachother a bit more first.
    Inviting your neighbour for fika or relatives for fika rather then neccerly food is a nice middle ground, you tend to want to offer a selection of things to eat and Coffe + Tea perhaps.
    The whole concept of Fika is not to just eat pasteries & drink Coffee, it's more focus on the sitting down and having a break with others, talking and chill for a while.
    ___________________________________
    The hot Chocolate, or just chocolate in general, none of the brands you mention are big here, there is one brand that is very big and thats "O'boy" it's ment to be mixed with cold mist first of all OR warm, they also have hot chocolate prepacks too, but otherwise when it comes to making your own "Hot" chocolate, then most swedes make their own mix from Coco & Sugar just.

      I though pastries was bakelser, i.e. with cream and stuff. Like budapest, napoleon, prinsess, and so on.
      A bun is just a plain bun, as I see it, regardless of how fresh and delicious. 😊

    • @herrbonk3635
      @herrbonk3635 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And yes, "fika" is certainly part of our culture, but people hasn't always been using that particular word (old vulgar slang for coffee). My family almost never use it, same with many friends. They say things like _dricka kaffe, kaffe & tårta, kafferast, gå på kondis, konditoribesök, bjuda på kaffe,_ and so on.

    • @PannkakaMedSylt

    You write under the vlog that you chose Stockholm to unwind, but Stockholm is the wrong place to choose to be down in. The bigger city in southern Sweden to relax in is Gothenburg, that city is less stressful. but if you really want to unwind, you should choose northern Sweden. There is a British TH-camr about animals, she and her partner have settled up in northern Sweden. then there is a family from London who every Christmas and New Year stay up in my city Kiruna, which is at the top of Sweden. Partly, they chose Kiruna to be sure that there is snow during these holidays, besides, it is polar winter from about December 8th until about January 8th. Then the sun never rises above the horizon during that time, it brightens at 09.30 and darkens again at 12.30.
    PS! why are you talking so fast? you put your voice here at high speed and sound like you have to say everything you want to say as fast as possible-
