  • "You Cannot Reason with a Tiger When Your Head Is in Its Mouth" - My favourite Quote from Churchill.
May 1940... 82 years ago, what a month for this incredibly complicated man.
Darkest Hour and Dunkirk go hand in hand. It's incredible both films came out at similar times and were made by a different cast and crew. Gary Oldman deserved all the awards for his portrayal as Sir Winston Churchill.
The quotes I’ve highlighted in the vid are ones that he actually quoted in real life!

Zelensky got every opportunity to leave Ukraine, western nations tried everything to get him to leave but he refused. Even with all the assassination attempts and bombs falling on the city he never ran. He goes to the front and stands with the people because he knew he needed to be done for the future.

Dowding did write to Churchill to say that France was going to fall and that therefore the RAF should save as many fighters as possible for any forthcoming fight over Britain's skies. However, at the same time - as a recent documentary has pointed out - several squadrons of fighters fought waves of German aircraft in Belgium and France and prevented them from ever reaching the beaches used for the evacuation. There was one memorable episode when RAF fighters made a flight of 50 Heinkel bombers turn back from attacking Dunkirk.

George VI said something along those lines and I have full confidence that this Kingdom shall endure so long as there are still people to bear the torch. Do not be a pessimist, people - humans- don't change and that Dunkirk spirit of ago still lives on, times may seem bleak but by the grace of God there will be a real man like Churchill to pick up the mantle. Weather you like the tories, Labour or any other party, the biggest thing will always be a determination to do the right thing and preserve unity, because Christ died to make humanity good. This royal throne of kings, this scepter’d isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
    This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England
    W. Shakespeare, in 'Richard II'

There are many brave men in the history of the world who are way more unnoticed, unheard and not tributed, courage is walking even when your foot stomps on fire, courage is putting your spine straight even when the world is against you, courage is knowing even if doesnt end well i will not go down in the shame of not trying hard enough, courage is being who you are even if fear tries to tear you down that you are not supposed to be this, courage is knowing that even if you are flawed it won't have a hold upon your existence, courage is celebrating being the monster even if being the monster saved a life and not being a hero if it ruined lifetime after lifetime, courage is losing for the right reason rather than cheating and winning for the wrong reasons

Whatever the British people are, whatever they have been, and will be, God saw fit to grace them with a Winston Churchill(and not the wimpy paper pusher), and victory in the darkest hour.
That's gotta be worth something, even with almost a century betwixt then and now.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
    In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.
one of the first poem's i learned as a boy.

This is why the commonwealth is so steadfast, our grandparents heard his mutter and stood strong as steel, they then spread, into australia from Malta, in my case. We faced annihilation and a fat oaf of an veteran curled our ears and languished our soul. Imagine a war without Churchill's speech. Who knows. But im Aussie. Bloody well proud. Come and take us. Commonwealth may be spoiled in blood, but this decade we revel in, is of this man. A fat drunkard, a downright dog...
But come and take us. Step first. Im'a smash ya.
