I used to own a Ducati Monster 796 with twin Termignoni exhausts. The sound of a Ducati is something I really love. Your new exhaust pipe makes it sound like a Yamaha, but as someone already mentioned, it will make long trips more bearable. Well done with your welding skills. If you are short on time, you might want to fix that plastic mud flap with some fibre glass now, and get back to it later when you have more time. Being half an hour late for summer here in Norway means missing out on half of the summer.
Haha, that is so true. The mc season ends almost as it starts, I might have to do some quick fixes of the things that are not that important. I think this engine is the same as used on Ducati Monsters in the 90s, but it's tuned a bit diffently I think. Probably more torque and less HP (I'm not really sure)
Glad you find it inspiring 😊 Research and planning ahead of project start, and evaluation and adjusting the plan during the project is also important. That happens mostly off-camera. However, it's impossible to plan for everything when you're doing something you're not skilled at. I like the method of 'learning by doing' as well, so I guess it's a mix of starting with theory and then going to practice and vice versa 😊
To check back pressure or exhaust restriction, you can measure engine vacuum. You will know if performances are reduced for each set up,and get the best combination.
@@kihestad If vacuum increases,it's a sign that the engines exhaust more easily its gases. If vacuum reduces it's a sign that the engine can't push out its gases as easily as previously. If you had a oxygen sensor bung,you could insert a pressure gauge,directly in the exhaust system, and see positive pressure instead ,in case of back pressure. More vacuum does not mean necessarily more power,but a better scavenging effect from your exhaust. The best is to test at idle,peak torque rpm,and while blipping the throttle. Knowing you have carburetors,more vacuum mean that you may disrupt the fuel tuning and run a bit leaner. Use a restrictor on the vacuum gauge,so it's not bouncing around if it's a needle. Check your spark plugs color after run tests,so you know how well the fuel is tuned.

Hi KI, as usual you take a task like replacing an exhaust and turn it into an entertaining story. I think the result is a success but agree the bike deserves to sound a little more capable then it does fully restricted..
Thanks Ryan, yea - you are not the only one who has mentioned that 😊 My neighbor was actually standing behind the bike when I did the testing, he said the sound on the video was not quite the same as what it sounded like in real life. He also told me to skip the dB-killer, it was sounding much better without and not too loud at all. I will be testing the new dB-killer when it arrives, hopefully I can tune it a bit 🤞
Great work Ki, The full system does sound a little over damped, but the result of a working exhaust is progress. A modified Db killer will regain some Ducati twin exhaust sound; which everyone loves.

I'll try it out and if needed test different kinds of modifications to it to try to get closer to the original sound. It cost less than $10, so the project is not very risky 🤞

Thank you 🙏 it has taken me a long time to get where I am tody with my workshop, my tools and my knowledge. As long as one are willing to work hard and dedicated the results will come! It is already heat protective mats on the inside of the side covers on this bike, it's a smart solution! 👍
Probably mine was removed because of the age. So I applied a new one. Some ppl from ducati told me even the screw to remove the saddle get hot during the driving so I insulated even that one. Me I took 3 years and a lot of money to fix a lot of things and its not finished yet. Lately i had problems with odometer and rev counter. Once a new problem appeaer i go to fix it. There is no other way. I would like to show u my elefant

1st, please note, I’m NOT putting photos of my home-made silencer (trail bike) on the internet so people can laugh at my horrible aluminium TIG welding… you asked what do we think. Well, I think you made a very good job of it. And your welding certainly got better as you went on… did you go off for a TIG welding course in the middle of the video? Sounds? Doesn’t sound as ‘fruity’ with the new exhaust on, but a loud exhaust is a pain for long-distance riding, and will tire you out, so the fact that it’s quieter is a real bonus. I silenced my (little 125) engine by stuffing the ‘can’ with stainless steel pot scrubbers. It worked well. Maybe too well! Enjoying your videos, thank you. Les in UK 🇬🇧
Hi, Nice job! However... Are you sure that aluminium will hold up to exhaust temperature? Aluminium melting point is around 660degrees celsius and also it is very thermo conductive ( will possibly melt Plastic around it). I had using mild steel silencer inserts to quiet down customers bikes on my wheelie stand, and steel just stretched due to temperature of exhaust gases.... Be safe.
It did become very hot on the outside, and I will make heat shields where it's needed. I'll pay close attention to it when I start using the bike, if it starts to deform I'll better make a new one using stainless steel 🤞

Det blir som to paralelle kabler som skal frakte lik mengde strøm, da må kablene være eksakt like lange. Om det var forståelig. Takk for bra video. Hilsen ingeniør.

Ja, veldig fornøyd med apparatet. Har gått over til puls nå, særlig når jeg sveiset sammen to stk 1mm aluminimum så fungerte det bra for å få bra innbrenning men samtidig ikke brenne hull. Apparatet er så lett å stille inn, ja dette kan jeg absolutt anbefale basert på min erfaring så langt (med utgangspunkt i at jeg aldri har prøvd noe annet apparat da....) At det skulle være så gøy å gå fra MIG til TIG hadde jeg ikke trodd. Det å nå kunne sveise "vanlig" stål, rustfritt og aluminium med et og samme apparat og gasstype er utrolig gøy. OBS: Det går med mye Argon gass, det må en være forberedt på. Jeg har kjøpt 8 liters-flaske på JULA, påfylling er nesten kr 1800,- og jeg har alt brukt opp ei flaske 😬 Jeg klippet opp en haug med aluminiumsbiter og satt en dag og øvet meg, tenkte ikke på gassforbruket. Hadde vel vært bedre å faktisk øve på den delen jeg likevel skulle lage i stedet for å bruke gass på massevis av øvingsbiter som etterpå gikk i søpla 😵💫 Det slites også på elektrodene også, i hvert fall når en knøler som nybegynner slik jeg gjør. Jeg har tre stk på 1.6mm som jeg synes passer best, har vel brukt opp snart 50% av disse 😝
Den jeg har er tett i enden og har små hull på sidene, den jeg har bestilt kan åpnes i enden. Skal høre hvordan det blir , og derfra eksperimentere til jeg får "passelig lyd" 😜

I totally agree! This Rockwool was left over from when I built acoustic sound panels, it's just impressive how it "eats" the sound 😊

Yess, nettopp. Vanskelig å vite om det hjalp slik jeg gjorde, men synes motoren i hvert fall gikk jevnt med den nye "boxen" 😊
