When you fit bags the sitting clearance doesn't matter, it's when you are standing and have to move right back and most important when you have to quickly put yout foot on the ground in say a rut at speed, unless of course you are just road riding.
That makes sense. This trip was just asphalt and gravel roads, but I do stand a lot anyway (whenever speed limit is 60 km/h or lower) just to get variation and avoid a hurting back. Thanks for the tips 🙏
The manual looks really sweet! Well done ! Maybe put some of the Service/Workshop manual stuff in there as well. I have a full color digital copy of the parts manual in the libretto format as well. It is for the monofaro ('86) but perhaps some of it can make it into your copy. Let me know if you need it. I also have some specs/measurements for the original Hepco & Becker luggage racks but you can look on their website as well. There are protection bars for the front-sides/engine as well.
If all that wiring works the temptation is to “just leave it”, but if there are problems down the line you have to sort it from a spider’s web of wiring. (I have a similar mess on one of my bikes). Better to do it right a.s.a.p, especially with a big trip coming up, and that means 1. It’s more reliable and 2. It’s easier to trace problems if there are any. I enjoy all your stuff, it’s very “Real World”! Thanks. Les in UK 🇬🇧
The only reason Im saying this is because I know you hold yourself to a high standard when it comes to the quality of your repairs and I hate to tell you what to do, but.. you should put a ring terminal on the wire going from the positive terminal to the coil relay. In my experience working with old bikes and cars, not using terminals and just twisting wires together (which should be a crime) or bolting down the naked wire works then and there, but never works out in the long run and might lead to intermittent problems (the worst kind..). If the ring terminal is not big enough for the battery bolt, you can make a cut in the ring terminal and widen it. With that said, smart to power the coil directly from the battery! Love your series btw, you really put a lot of effort in it and it shows in the final product!
You are absolutely correct, I did eventually. It was just the first temporary install before I added the USB charging cable. Now it's just too many cables going directly to the battery, it will all be reworked. I want to add more relays as well to be able to power down all circuits with the ignition.
Hahaha, not exactly a body builder 😂 The heated jacket is a must have in Norway. There are two kind of riders up here... those who have yet to try a heated jacket, and those who have one 😂 Great episode Hestad. Just let me say that the heated jacket was a must have in Lofoten. Can't wait to hear how the trip was. 🤌🏻
I strongly advise you wire your USB sockets to a switched power supply. The things are never waterproof and will certainly drain your battery overnight if left out in the rain.
Yep, USB adaptors even with nothing plugged in still have a tiny power draw from the circuitry. Ha, the amount of things directly mounted to the battery terminal we have all been there. But to make a small attachment point off the battery to tie all the accessories into.
I bet that all your gps, tablett, warm jacket were too much for what your regulator could generate and regulator could handle. This generation of fant was not designed for so much voltage output. Hope I am wrong this said and that you had fun during your trip
Luckily that was not a problem. The display on the USB charger showed 13.5V or more when charging, even when the tablet and heated jacket were plugged in 👍
That luggage rack u will see.....if u drive fast it will become very very hot due to the exhaust. Atleast with mine is like that. So I drive slowly, better 👌🏿😉
The exhaust muffler is very well insulated, it does not get very hot at all. The side cover is in addition heat protected on the inside. It's no heat problems at all on the bike luckily, but definitely something to take into consideration when using soft bags 👍
@@kihestad good work Ki. My luggage rack can become hot only on the exhaust side. Is for the bracket which connect the exhaust to the rack. I should isolate it in some way. But yes soft bag could be ruined. Am curios to see what u invent.. 🙏🏿👌🏿😉😉
Jeg pleide å dekke over eller sladde det i begynnelsen, men det er så mye jobb ... 🥴 Nå tar jeg en sjans på at mitt publikum er ærlige og greie folk 🤞😊
Hi. Great video. Have to see video from your trip. That spoiler alert did make me very very curious😂 What type and brand did you choose on times? I have a Honda XL600 I am looking for a good allround tire on. Great wishes from Innlandet Norway
Thanks 😊 I recommend you to join the Norwegian OTC group (offroad touring group). Great discounts on Continental tires if you buy from Dekkmann / Best drive. I have Continental TKC 80 on front wheel, and Mitas E07+ on rear. I did not know about the Continental discount when I bought the rear tire, Continental had good solutions there as well, TKC 70 could be a good pick.
The most expected videos for me! Keep it going!
Thanks 🙏

Temporary permanent install 😂. I have done just like you in the past and I never ended fixing it.
Excellent series, Thanks
Haha 😂 well let's see, if the temporary solution works - it might end up as permanent ...
Close to the passenger flip-up foot rests you can loop the straps (of the bags) through the aloy grid... of the same foot rests.😉
Yes, plenty of alternatives to mount the straps. Also using the luggage rack behind the seat worked well.

Yes, if a temporary solution works it might end up as permanent 🥴
Temporary, the best kind of permanent, i once saw an "temporary" fix made in the 19th century in a house here in my city.
Haha 😂 yes I know, temporary fixes tends to end up permanent - if it works....

I'm glad you survived 😂 hope the problems won't be that bad 🙏🏼 but I can imagine at least 3 things that could go wrong with the elephant 😅
I'm glad too 😅 I have actually added three new tasks to my work list after the trip, perhaps it's exactly ones you could imagine? 😳😊
@@kihestad engine, electric cables, breaks ? gimme some clue ;)
hehe, editing on the next video now - you will know in a couple of days 😁
If you ever decide to upgrade the tablet mount, try Ram Mount products. They have mounts for just about any electronic device on handle bars.
Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely upgrade it, will check it out 👍 btw: I actually have a ram mount for my cell phone, definitely a quality product.
Look forward to hearing more about the trip!!
I am currently editing it, should be ready soon 😊 It will be a bit different from my regular garage-videos 😋
Gonna be great trip dude
Great trip with some hickups 🤪
Great job 👍
Thnx 😊
Having the repair manual on the trip. Put extra chapters ... !?
Hehe, I did not plan bringing along the owners manual on trips. It's to be used in the garage when doing planned service / repairs.

I am already working on the follow-up video, the one from the trip. The heated jacket was just a life saver 🤩🤩🤩
I strongly advise you wire your USB sockets to a switched power supply. The things are never waterproof and will certainly drain your battery overnight if left out in the rain.
That sounds like a very good advice 👍 I'll probably add a relay after the ignition switch and power both the USB and the heated jacket output to it.
