It's pretty nice 😊 I guess the big indicators are a bit charming, but I am probably saving 1 kilo of weight by putting on smaller ones - less weight = more performance 😁
Not the only one. As the primary reason for indicators is to get your intentions through to other road users, even those texting/sleeping/daydreaming, there is no such thing as an indicator that is too big or too bright. I recently improved the wiring on my machine so that the puny, ridiculous 10W bulbs (same as above?) could be replaced with 21W ones. Indicators are flexibly mounted to preserve the bulb filaments. Changing that might compromise bulb life, so I would keep a careful watch on them. LEDs might be useful in this instance, with their sudden on/off characteristics. They are just too puny and directional at the moment.
Thanks 😊 I have actually already got a very interesting tips: Ducati indicators from that era are actually quite similar to the ones I fitted - just better quality!
I don't think you can call yourself a real motorcyclist if you haven't spent way too much time fussing over indicators! I think you made the right choice, they fit the style of the bike nicely.
Really good video! I think it was interesting how you arrived at your solution and was especially impressed that you printed adapters to make the blinkers work on your bike. Personally, I would have used the big, stock blinkers but shortened the stalks to bring them in close to the fairing and fender. I just think the larger size would be more visible. Thanks as always for your videos. They are really fun and interesting!
Thanks Dennis 😊 I will actually try to find a set of the original rear indicators so I have a full set. It's hard to come by used parts for this bike though. I might switch back to the original ones some time in the future, would have been nice to find some shrinked 80% with half sized arm 🤩
Great choice, to go with the more retro looking blinkers. Good thing you got 8 if half of them are crooked :D I love having a 3d printer for stuff like that. That way you don't need to spend hundreds on premium parts...you just upgrade them yourself. Already looking forward to the next video.
Yes, I think having 8 of them can be handy because of the non-premium-quality 😝 3D printing is quite useful. I have just an old Ender 3-Pro, slightly upraged. I think you have a newer model from what I can see from your videos. It works for now, but an upgrade to a bigger one is on my wish list 🤞
@Ki Hestad => The medium indicators looks better and the smaller indicators that you installed first will not be very visable in foggy or cloudy conditions...the medium the indicators is better and you will be noticed in those conditions. Not a boring video, but actually very informative and it's nice to see the bike coming together.
You're right, I have seen very small indicators that are super-bright as well, but mine small ones was definetly not. Also in bright sunlight it's important with good lights!
I use blinkers very similar to your ‘small’ ones on my (smaller) bikes. I’m happy with them, but I think on the Cagiva you made the right choice. When I see your tidy and clean garage it makes me ashamed of my filthy and untidy one! Les in UK 🇬🇧
@@kihestad I can only dream at the moment, my garage has the gravel base I see quite often here... If I drop a small bolt or nut, it's hardly worth looking for it lol! Falling on my garage floor is like falling into the void... 😆
Like your videos and youtube presentations! Put an extra 3D printed part around the smallest part of the flexible. It is the weakest (moving) part. It will end more sturdy I suppose.
Yes, that is actually a very good idea 👍👍👍I had to take a look at my own video, and you're right. I think it will stiffen up the last soft "link" a lot - starting the 3D printer now!!!
Nice video!:) Are in the process of replacing my own indicators on my xj600 from -94 that I got for free. They are all broken either at the lens or broken off their mounting points. If you want to send a couple to trøndelag them I'm all for it :-D
I think I would print out a mold and cast some 2 part polyurethane around the stalks to make them firmer. Or maybe just fill in the grooves with a 1 part urethane.
I guess that is the best way to go forward to get somthing with decent quality, but it's qute a job though. I would think 3D printing using flexible filament is a much esier job, but then again: will it be strong enough 🤔
Iam looking at purchasing ether the 900 elephant ie if I can find one or the 750 elephant your series has been very interesting good work and proper commitment
@@Albie-f5k If you can find a 900ie - go for it 😊 I do believe the 900cc Elefants are more valuable, and I think they are a bit more stylish as well 😎 The 750 is less heavy and might be better off road though
Yes, it seems like a bunch of motorcycles from 80s and 90s used these with different length arms: triumphs, aprilla, Honda ns125f and probably more 😅 Thanks for the tips 🙏
The first Ducati monster turn signals have a shape and style that would not only suit this retro bike, but they are the same era and share the same engine.
The monster indicators also have a better quality lens that is a true amber colour unlike these ones that are washed out by the bright globe. Maybe use an amber coloured gold as well?
Yes, you are the second ones saying Ducati has similar ones - will definetly take a look! Cagiva and Ducati had a lot of cross-over parts in the period when Cagiva owned Ducati, like in 1990 when my bike was made. Thanks for the tips!
I think the stock led indicaters on my lexmoto venom would look good on your bike yes i know its a only a 125 chinese bike but thay seen to be realy good quality and iv never had any issues with them
Hey, that was a very cool bike 😊 I'll stick to square-ish blinkers on mine, because that's what it was originally. The ones on your bike does look a bit more modern very nice 👍
might be cheap blinkers, but with 3d printed adapters and new m12 bolts.... it is a far cry better than my shoelace and superglue fix on my number plate bracket... HA ha! (I need to learn how to weld!)
I have standard 12V 21W indicators on my bike, they look dull in daylight, and poorer still in bright sunlight does anyone know of a direct replacement brighter lamp?
21w should be pretty bright, perhaps the indicator switch, the wiring/connected or relay is old and worn? Might be the bulb is not really getting 12V. LED replacement bulbs might exist, depends on type of bulb you got
Great video, enjoyed watching it! I actually have one of those small fake carbon fiber indicators, it came on a crash damadged bike I am rebuilding. So I would be interested if you would send me the other 3 so I will have the whole set :)
I have got a couple of suggestions about Ducati indocators from older type of Ducati Monster, they seems to be similar to the big originals for the Cagiva - but a tiny bit smaller. Would like to have some that is perhaps 80% shrinked down, and a bit shorter arm. Not easy to find 😝
5:55 not at all. they have to design around the indicators that are by law required. the indicators are never the base or ground or reason for any design on any roadbike but to as low drag as the light emitter and design will allow for. if the makers had the choice they would either not be there or be integrated in the body for better looking design and less drag. thats the only reason. . .
Also has to do with the visibility of the object, the smaller it is the brighter it needs to be to be as visible and most don't pass that criteria like the larger blinker housing. A lot of aftermarket items you can buy are not good, but some want that modern look.
I might be the only one in the world who likes big and bulky indicators. Love your Elefant, most beautiful dakar replica ever made

Very neat job fitting in your own 3D design 'interfaces', that you almost casually introduced.
And agreed on your blinker choice, obviously!

New indicators look good, and it was really interesting to see the process. Trial error and iteration, gives us hope for our projects
Glad to hear that 😊
