Love your videos especially since I just bought a 2016 Mk 5 2.0 diesel with 27.000 Miles on the clock.
I do all the maintenace on our cars my self home in the driveway, and since this is my first Ford, it’s nice to see the jobs done and to know what to look for.

Hi Alan, Thanks for your great work on the mk5, I've been a Mondeo man for a few years with the mk1,2,4 and now the mk5s, this time I was lucky the get a demo mk5 vignale 66 plate when the 17 plate came out, with only 700 miles, and using it as a private hire, it's just passed the 193K mark, yes after the 60K I started doing my own repairs and services, following your videos, due to the cost of Ford prices etc. and with my car fitted with internal and external cameras was able to see what went on, eye opener, yes. seen what go's on in the work shop etc. as my system transmits live videos back to my server and I can see live video with sound back, ford did once disconnect my camera's saying its against company policy and saying it's against the data protect act etc. etc. then I hit back with it's my property, and I'm registered with the ICO and informing them of two engineers noising around in my glove box and center consoled and rummaging around with my property and the tone changed, so I do say the camera system is on when taking to ford or any garages and not to be touched, so far no problems. The mk5 is a great car especially on long journeys with the comfort and all the toys, I pass you on the A14 on my way to Great Yarmonth from Gloucester every two week twice, I must say keep up the great work with your videos
and your mannerisms, I for one appreciate all your helpful hints how to do etc. etc. keep up the great work Alan.

Cheers for that Alan, you are in a unique situation servicing a fleet like that and we're lucky you spend the time making these videos. Car manufacturers are very good at updating their designs to make you want a new one. I've got a mk4 2009 tit x sport coming up to 105k and I will need to change it soonish. I won't go for a mk4.5 as that's not enough of an upgrade and I'm not sure about the mk5. It was supposed to be released in 2013 over here but was delayed due to Ford closing factories which means they haven't had long enough to depreciate into my price range. Also its bigger than the mk4 and that was big enough and i still don't know where the corners are on that, plus parking spaces aren't getting any bigger. Been looking at SUVs but they seem to hold their value, are just as wide and seem to have low bhp. So a bit stuck at the moment.

Rob Thomas the mk5 has a smaller boot strangely. Also the handling is no where near as sharp as the mk4. But the ride is more comfortable on the mk5

@@chrisredfield3240 I won't be getting the mk5 as the boot is smaller than the mk4 which is annoying. I need a large boot for my dog! Love the mk4.

I bought my 2016 2ltr diesel titanium xpack powershift for 10k with 55k miles.... It's an astonishing car and feels like something much more expensive. Yes the lower spec cars look a bit average but get top of the range and there stunning. Mine was 27k new so I think me paying 10k was great value. Powershift is expensive to service about £300 every 30k miles... Mine has been faultless and Is a fabulous car

Also to add to that, the headlight not going up or down, levelling from the switch inside is an not failure, had to replace both headlights and the LED day time running lights turn from yellow which is also MOT bc of mismatch and had to replace both of them for in the past.
Thermostat housing blow up while I was driving which was a nightmare. Like Alan said clutch flywheel, alternator went, the tyre pressure sensor abit of pain too, had to replace 3 so far and many other things. Also now burning about a litre of coolant per 100 miles Overall it’s drives really nice but starting to become a little painful owning it

I got a mark 4 Ford Mondeo which is a 57 plate. I bought it in 2008 at 170,000 miles and l immediately did a cam belt change due to the high mileage, and since the car purchasing the car, i have not had a single mechanical issue apart from minor servicing (glow plug change, old and air filter change) and battery change. The car is very highly reliable, and even though I tend to do motorway miles often, l have never had a breakdown or used my RAC recovery service. However, I had recently been tempted to upgrade to the MK5 Mondeo because they are very nice looking and very large, even larger than the MK4. The only problem is that they are quite expensive, and even ones with high mileage commonly on the 65 plate go for around £5,000 plus. I saw a very nice MK5, a 65 plate, recently going for £5,300, which was the cheapest MK5 I could find. The problem is that it has done 167,000 miles. It's been sold by a car dealer who said it used to be a company car with 1 previous owner. The car comes with 6 months warranty. Do you think l should take a risk to buy the car? Having watched your video of what can go wrong with MK5 mechanically, l am wondering if l should take the risk. The dealer told me that the MK5 had a dual mass fly wheel change, gearbox change and cam belt change. Please l urgently need your advice. The dealer is also ready to offer me a fair sum on my current MK4 Mondeo.

I've had the mk1,3 and now I have a 4 but my favourite was without doubt my mk3 Ghia-x tddi not the chocolate tdci, I still miss it, that car went through absolute hell for 200k miles and never missed a beat and I ran it on everything from kerosene to straight veg oil. It only died when I hit a roundabout on a terrible stormy night and bent the chassis.

Whats the difference between mk4 and mk5?

    • @FatHead1979
      @FatHead1979 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@ashtonflyblu Totally different platforms, MK5 was designed for the US market so it's big, a bit flabby compared to the MK4 but it really does a good job of insulating the driver from road/wind noise.
MK4 is ridiculously agile for it's size, the steering is more direct than the MK5 and has a bit more "weight".
MK4 is more fun if you fancy a thrash, MK5 is an awesomely comfortable motorway mile muncher.

Another excellent video. I was thinking change from mk4 to mk5, but after test drive i believe i like more my mk4 2013 than the 2015 mk5 the way it drive? The style of mk5 is brilliant out and inside but driving and costs i will stick to mk4 for now. Mine is 109k and still strong quite engine clutch still like new. I had before the mk4 2007 sold with 181k and original clutch and flywheel on it, the guy who i sold it still have it after one year and clutch still good. How brilliant is that?. Nice video fella 😉

Told discs on current wear will still be ok then but it would be best to change the discs at the same time as the pads at that time. 👍

Just looking back at this video and not one bit of me wants to replace my Mk3 Mondeo Ghia hatchback with a mk5 I love the old car vibe and the Mk3 reminds me of the old days of the cortina the Mk3 Mondeo Ghia is like a cortina 1600E
Although people look at it and are like oh it’s just another car
I look at it as a piece of reborn history and I bet in a few years from now people will look back and say did you ever own a Mondeo and people will be like yeah I did I had the Zetec and the other guy saying he had an st220 v6 but then you have the guy at the top of the range with the kitted out Ghia spec and tbh no other car is like a Mk3 it’s so direct and still good looking and still a few left of the road but to top of mine it’s in that lovely Silver/black gold mix colour that only a few came as it was an optional colour when it came out but in all honesty it could do with a sportex exhaust to remove the raspiness from that 2.0l duratec and give it more burble and more grunt we’ve had it for 3 years now and hopefully plenty more to come

Hey Alan, thanks for the fun and informative video as always. Have you ever had any steering issues with a MK4 mondeo? I have seen a few people mention the seals in the rack break apart blocking the resevior filter and starving the pump, producing a whine. I figured if it was as common as people have been saying then perhaps you would have seen it at least once. This happened to mine so I fitted an external filter ahead of the reservior (that can be replaced) then I replaced the blocked reservior. Its been okay since.

Hello from Denmark, I had to pause the video when you said it burns oil... In the beginning I thought the mk5 was the ultimate upgrade from my own mondeo mk3 2.0 130 tdci with 343k kms on the clock.. But the fact that such a new diesel burns oil just ruined it for me.. My mondeo never burns any oil between services. I owned a mondeo 1.8 petrol 110 before my current and it burned around the same oil due to the rings going bad sadly 230 k kms. But before I could fix it, it was smashed in an accident due to a young lady who was on her phone :(

we have just upgraded to a mk5 titanium but it doesn't have the parking sensors fitted (6 front and 6 rear) , can these be swapped in from a model that does and set up to work on the info display like the other titanium models. if so do i just need the loom (as well as the console switch) or is there a module between the loom and the canbus i need to source.

    Hi Alan, love your videos.
Just wondering if your opinion on the MK5 Mondeo has changed in the 5 years since you posted this video? I am considering buying a MK5 MD Mondeo Titanium Wagon here in Australia and wondering if there was much of a change to the 2.0L Diesel engine through the MK5 MD series? FYI, Ford Australia stopped selling the Mondeo in early 2020 and only offered the MD series in 6 speed dual clutch auto and the Titanium Wagon was only ever available in Diesel

check the egr valve is not leaking..the water will run down around the oil filter.

I suspect this oil burning is why I often find a pending P2000 fault code logged due to abnormal Nox levels detected on bank 1.
