    I don’t buy a car to use on a sport track and speed around corners ? Comfort, refinement, and value. Focus on that, instead of reviewing every car as if it should perform like a sports cars ( it’s not a sports car)

      The MK4 has a fantastic chassis setup which makes cross country progress especially a breeze. Losing that means more work on the brakes and more steering work which is annoying and your passengers notice.

      @@mardamek Europeans don't understand how much time North Americans actually spend driving, especially on our roads which are concrete (to resist the harsh climate) and very straight. I can easily do 35 000 - 45 000 kms per year and most of that is on Canadian highways. I don't need a car to handle the Nurburgring or the windy roads of the French Riviera, I want a comfortable car with soft suspension that absorb the ride on our roads.
      I have family and friends in Europe and they put MAYBE 15 000 kms on their cars per year. European roads are smooth and the cities are dense with very short distances, no wonder they value small sporty cars. Problem is European cars don't fare well in North American conditions.

    I am going to beg to differ on the car overall. I think the current generation Fusion (what we call the current Mondeo state side) is leaps and bounds better than what they used to be. They are comfortable, very maneuverable, well designed and thought out cars. It's not meant to be a zippy little car, it's meant to get you from point A to B reliably. Ford's quality has been going up and up and up while others has been going down and down and down in the past 10+ years. I love them and it's going to be my first new car purchase once I get my 2001 Chevy Blazer ZR2 finished up.

    It is a beautiful car and in the real world it's a family car not a race car and it will perform great on everyday roads in everyday environments and as for the filtration system I don't believe it will ever encounter a situation with being attacked by smoke bombs and stink bombs . So let's give the car a 8.5 - 9 .

    • @housepianist
      @housepianist 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I have to agree. Ford built this car to appease the masses who want an all-around, well-built car. They have to think in terms of the number of people who will buy this car and for that, they focused on a complete package for everyday use rather than a specified track tool.
      Perhaps Ford could build a sportier version but again, they won't build it if they don't feel there's a market for it.

    • @TassieLorenzo

      "It is a beautiful car and in the real world it's a family car " Then why not just buy a Toyota Camry? :) I would have figured the whole point of a Ford Mondeo (Fusion) or Mazda6 is that it is more sporty than a Camry, otherwise what's the point? :)

The Ford Mondeo or Fusion only has a place for people who enjoy sporty handling, otherwise why would people with the Ford and not just go with the default Toyota choice? :) I appreciate that in Europe, Toyota (and Japanese car generally) are not that popular, which is a bit of an anomaly compared to global sales.

    You know you can spec this with sport suspension, and a sport body kit, and even a twin turbo 240hp petrol engine ( the 2017 refresh is getting a 325hp version). I'm pretty sure that would be much more appelaing on a track as opposed to this one which is your bog standard company car trim, like you would ever realistically take a freaking mondeo to a track though.

    These smart arsed car reviews are so boring 😴
    Talk about the space, comfort, handling yes maybe and above all safety features.
    On these counts the Ford Mondeo is as good as it gets at any price.
    It's not meant to be driven like a lunatic, it's a family car.
    The problem is everyone wants either sports cars or huge 4x4s but people don't understand the genius in doing the basic engineering of reliability and safety properly.
    We will look back at these marvels of engineering fondly.

    I have to reluctantly admit that the European versions of the cars (this goes for pretty much all manufacturers) seem to be more driver-oriented and to the point than the American versions. One thing that is a plus with American versions is the choice of engines (or rather, the lack of it, but in a good way). Due to the lower cost of fuel, we get to do away with tiny lawn mower engines that the Europeans have to settle for; we only get the top 2 or 3 engines in the lineup. So, basically the base model of the American car is already at least a midrange model in the European market. While a good thing, indeed, it is not a full compensation for the blandness that an American market car inherently has.

    This car isn’t a Mondeo. When the last Mondeo came to the US it was sold alongside the Fusion as a bigger, more upscale car (Ford 500). This is the Ford Fusion. They killed the Mondeo and called the Fusion a Mondeo in the U.K.

      Ford 500 is just a Taurus now. They're based on a modified Volvo Chassis. The first gen Fusion was based on the Mazda 6, but the current gen Fusion is based on Ford's own CD4 platform shared with the Mondeo. The last time we had a Mondeo in the states was with the Contour. Ford 500 was never based on the CD4 or related to the Mondeo or Fusion.

    I know that the 2017 model of the Ford Fusion is going to bring back the Sport trim like they did in 2010-2012. But this time instead of a naturally aspirated 3.5 V6 (263HP and 250ft-lb (or 338Nm)), Ford is now using a 2.7 Ecoboost V6 (Turbocharged 325HP and 350ft-lb (or 475Nm)). I wonder if Ford is going to make the Mondeo have a "Sport" Trim also. That will be an interesting car to review.

    • @pgtmr2713
      @pgtmr2713 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +FoxTail8000 The v6 isn't necessary. I passed a Fusion sport in a 2011 Fusion SE with 2.5l 4cyl. The guy was actually trying to keep me from passing by accelerating hard. The 2.5l was my favorite engine. I've only had the V6s with awd. I hate the new steering, but I was wondering if the larger wheel package would make a difference. I've got "18's on one and "19's on the other '13 and '14. You'll have to convert to Metric on your own. Is the hatchback Euro/Mondeo spec only? They should have to test other cars for smell now. A bit nit picky if you ask me. It's an air filtration system not a gas mask. Never seen a Lexus or Merc filter system get tested like that. No real issues with any of 6 Fusions since 07.

      I drove a Mazda 6 and boy it was too stiff to be comfortable, the car felt way cheaply built exterior wise compared to the Mondeo, light feeling doors and boot and it didnt feel quite sure and re assuring as the solid tank like feeling Mondeo
      mondeo is in average 160-280 kgs heavier than all types of Mazdas 6, thats what makes it handle better and better mpg as well,
      Cabin feels like garbage in Mazda 6 not because of plastics or design, the cabin insulation is so damn pathetic that a Ford Fiesta feels almost quieter than a Mazda 6,

    • @scorpionbeware
      @scorpionbeware 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no its because in Canada and all most roads are smooth, here in Europe roads are really bad specially after rains and in these kinds of conditions the 6 sucks, its very harsh specially for back seat passengers and even worse is wind,road,tyre noise, its so pathetic that despite all the big feel it sometimes like feeling a budget suzuki due to excess of noise inside, one cannot even take a nap cuz even small bumps filter inside and more than tat is heard inside like a crash,
      So I for one will go with Mondeo,not everybody wants go kart like handling in a family sedan, and thats what Ford has done and I appreciate that approach, if comfort is a priority I dont think Mazda 6 can win over the Ford, so I think 5th gear is too harsh with Mondeo here, its a family sedan 1st sporty sedan 2nd unlike Mazda which is sporty sedan 1st,family car 2nd

    What's the difference between a Fusion and a Mondeo?

    • @aaronbarkus6458
      @aaronbarkus6458 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      fusion is America and modeo is UK. the two never used to be related, until this last redisign. also the fusion is a sedan and the modeo is a hatch or wagon

    • @skiballasthegreat4945
      @skiballasthegreat4945 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +aaron Barkus thanks. I saw the different roofline, but apart from that they look identical. We have Fusions in our company fleet in the UAE, but they are pretty basic I terror wise, still nice, but basic. I thought the Mondeo might just be more upmarket, but the saw a Fusion in South Africa which had a much more upmarket interior than the Fusion in the UAE. So clearly it is based on country specifications. So to conclude, it is the same car being marketed with different names.

    We've had it here for a few years and they sell very well. Unfortunately, you must have gotten our suspension settings that are dialed for the less aggressively driven masses that buy the majority. Which is good for Ford, but not so much for driving spiritedly. At least you can still get a manual transaxle. I just looked at Ford's website and all I see is automatic and CVT. That goes for the sensible hatchback too. Trunk only sedan here.

    • @sssssneaker
      @sssssneaker 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +cargogh Unfortunately for Ford, it's the driving feel that sold Mondeos in Europe - it used to be the best. Now it's beaten by both the new Passat and Mazda 6, the latter of which even looks a lot better.

      Alexander Fattoum Oh yes of course. My 1.6 TDI Golf is affected by this so called scandal, all it needs is a software update an a grill in front of the air intake which take 2 minutes to install, so the emissions couldn't be that far off anyway if that's all it takes to bring them down, and ultimately, I have got 90mpg form my car before so it is efficient. Volkswagens are such excellent cars in my opinion.

    I just bought 2016 fusion SE.
    I love the car I really do. It looks great and it's very comfortable. But they are right about the steering, it is not a driver's car. Although the steering is lacking, it is a very good daily commuter. I drive a lot of highways for work and it loves just cruising and soaking up miles. And the space in the car is great. I can fit all the camping gear and when my wife has a craft show my fusion has more space than her SUV. I give the fusion a 7/10 for the same reasons. Also because to change a bulb you have to take the bumper apart, not hard just a pain. Any other car I owned you turned a cover and changed the light and done. I would buy another only because I want the bigger motor lol

    Why did they test a 1.5, it's a big heavy car, the 2 litre diesel is superb & for all those praising the Mazda 6, remember that Ford is the major shareholder in Mazda & they use some of their models to test future parts before putting them into Fords including the 6 that was used to test the new generation Mondeo engines.

    You buy this car for comfort and room. It excels as a comfie, roomy, reliable car. Nowadays cars of 3 to 4 years old with 50k on the clock are still good, reliable, contemporary cars. You can get this for £7k. Spares and servicing are cheap and it still looks nearly new.

    Each of these people would own a particular brand of car and as every one of knows we all are loyal to our brand , so no matter how good this car was unless it was of their own favourite brand it would not be up to scratch in any form , I experienced it by driving a friend around testing cars , she was a loyal Hyundai fan and no matter what , every car other than a Hyundai was somehow horribly flawed , and I knew it was total crap and I knew what was causing the problem .
