Elena is a magnificent soloist. The other cats are all equally great, contributing to that rich sound. Drummer drives it, Christian highlights it, and the bass guy and guitar work together with the vibist. International feast!

Honestly no disrespect for the band, they all sound great, but Elena Pinderhughes is on a whole different level. Looking forward to watching her career grow!
she really is incredible - the flute has never been an instrument I've particularly gravitated towards in jazz but she just makes me want to hear more and more and more.. absolutely gorgeous sound, and so young! very excited for what she has ahead of her.
I don't think she's better than Christian or Corey by any means. He's playing stuff that's on par with Gillespie and Morgan. I think she sticks out because flute is a less common virtuoso instrument. No disrespect to her though, she's a fantastic musician.
I think a pretty face and jazz flute has you blind to everything else that is happening here. As Cody said this man is doing the Dizzy and Lee thing albeit with a layer of NOLA grease.
Fantastic ensemble. Truly epic stuff right here. Feels like your channeling the spirit of Miles Davis. Who says there's no good music anymore. Good music is more alive then ever!
Ahh. okay. Gotcha. I sometimes feel like a troll magnet. Forgive me as well for the quick retort. Yes, .. Everyone is always getting nostalgic about the "good ol' days" while saying today's music is crap. It's not. It's as good as ever, people just need to broaden their horizons. That being said, this guy is truly an old soul. Amazing music. Cheers!
You might like these guys - I feel they are educating a whole new generation about jazz. Quite a talented bunch - I don't play the games but I really enjoy their jazz (in many different styles) covers of VGM: th-cam.com/video/Bp-mCvfhbJ8/w-d-xo.html
+sosippus It's Ku Klux Police Department! Theres a video of him explaining the whole story of how it was composed at a Tiny Desk video here! Check it out. It's worth it.
There's a lot of great playing here - and listening. I find the drummers really exciting. The whole thing is exciting. The band maintains a great overall sound throughout. I love the sound of the two drummers...reminds me of Elvin. Interesting that the flutist is listed last by WBGO. Traditionally the wind soloists are *all* listed first - even if they are "only girls". I guest jazz culture hasn't changed that much. At least not at WBGO.
....Man these young people are just great, no doubt in my mind that they all have their own professional musician that they have heard and would like to be in the same class with. There is no one who do not have a hero, even heroes have heroes...Dizzy,Miles, Louis Armstrong, Stanley Turntine,Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Chick Webb, Jimmy and Tommy, the Dorsey Bros,Lionel Hampton, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman, Glenn Miller,Fletcher Henderson,Sonny Greer, Cootie Williams, Dennis Chambers, Chris Dave, Tony Roaster Jr., Coleman Hawkins,Rex Stewart, Billy Cobblem, Buddy Rich, Buddy Miles,Johnny Lee Hooker, Eric Clapton, Stevie R. Vaughn ,Roy Orbinson, Merle Haggle, Roy Clark, all these musical heroes, had musical heroes of their own..So, if you hear someone sounding like or playing like someone you know , don't be so hard on them,Remember they have not yet find their own tonality? stay tune...
+Howard Mao He certainly could have had an attached mic but, he probably wanted more control for himself over the manipulation of the sound; instead of depending on a sound guy who wouldn't understand or be able to keep up with what he wanted, where he wanted it, when he wanted it!...CONTROL!!!!!!! LOL

Every performance of KKPD reminds me of my own experience as a brown man treated unfairly by white cops in Iowa. And in the expressions put forth by Christian Scott's group.... It is very powerful.
Beautifully crafted solos. Is that something they learn at Berklee or does it come naturally? Augmentation, development, inversion, transforms and rhythmic placement. What an amazing band!
Elena is a beast floutist and the most beautiful creature that God has ever put on one lol... I'm a trumpeter in S.C. God bless this band. Y'all are awesome.
How the hell does he come across so many great bass players and drummers? I've watched quite a few sessions, and there seems to always be a different rhythm section. Unless, of course, they are elevated by great front people...oh, I take that back. Corey's been with him before...and, he's a beast!
Elena is a magnificent soloist. The other cats are all equally great, contributing to that rich sound. Drummer drives it, Christian highlights it, and the bass guy and guitar work together with the vibist. International feast!
ELENA PINDERHUGHES HAS SO MANY BARS.
she can blow me like that
a bit of respect, sir. please.
This set has my favorite performance of Twin... I just love the double drum set with African drums. I 200% needed that extra percussion.
Braxton Cook just does everything you expect him to do musically and more. Don’t sleep on that alto sax! What an incredible group of musicians...
Dude on bass ... killa!!!
This guy blows my mind every time I hear him play...wow

I second that.. on another level. so imaginative and soulful
She's still young, give her time to grow, Elena is in the right enviroment here.
I think a pretty face and jazz flute has you blind to everything else that is happening here. As Cody said this man is doing the Dizzy and Lee thing albeit with a layer of NOLA grease.
SUCH GOOD MIC TECHNIQUE CHRISTIAN SCOTT WHAT A PERFORMER WOW!
Elena is nice on Flute!!!!
Deep, progressive, passionate. Thoughts of Coltrane, Miles Davis rush into my memoirs with a flurry of the Laws
Fantastic ensemble. Truly epic stuff right here. Feels like your channeling the spirit of Miles Davis. Who says there's no good music anymore. Good music is more alive then ever!
I'm also hearing Weather Report influences here too. Really great stuff!

Thanks! I did, really enjoy that one with the new songs! :D
That second tune called Twin is a fav of mine so far...
Y'all sleeping on the pianist, he's insane!
The Rachmanioff YESS, that's what I'm thinking!!!
The Rachmanioff ost cats always sleep on the pianists

He raw, but he can't see Elena's brother though.
@@SmashinAdams i stan samora lol!!!

En tant qu'ancien flûtiste je remercie ELENA PINDERHUGHES de si bien servir l'instrument! Fantastique personnalité!

just love Elena on flute acting like a little shy but when she plays it's so great !!! love from France

just stunning - thx for this music
Brilliant use of two drummers....
The greatest living trumpeter!
the most inspiring music these days!!
She is amazing on that flute! Go girl you make me want to spin around and dance to that intensity! I love jazz with African Latino vibes.
What a story to Elena of Christian Scott TP at playing the flute is amazing!! 、、、 jazz musicians in NYC👍
BRO that flute solo at 6:43 was downright INSANE
Mm, mm, mm...too damn good. Christian Scott is a superlative composer.
I LOVE U CHRISTIAN.
its not for me but thnk you i need that xD!
Man at the end of KKPD the camera was shaking. Wow!
Beautiful, incredible talent, bringing tears
A very lovely show...
Oh me Oh my...I am completely blown away. That outro for KKPD has me so lit right now... (yummmm)
Thanks youtube gnome for sending these my way. Love the algorithm!!
My, a quite soulful performance.
Stretch Music! Awesome!!
Great music, very talented artists.
10:04 "TWIN" ... This song is fucking incredible. Sold out in Madrid (Spain). Next time i ll be faster.
i really can't believe the music is this good. I started listening to cs in middle school & i'm still impressed
All such beautiful souls!!!! much LOVE to ALL!
They should have just attached the mic to his trumpet bell instead of having a standing mic. The sound fades out whenever he moves around.
+Howard Mao he does that intentionally.
the 414 wouldn't be my choice for a trumpet mic live. Great mic in the studio, but not here.
+Clark Gayton w you on that one
+Howard Mao He certainly could have had an attached mic but, he probably wanted more control for himself over the manipulation of the sound; instead of depending on a sound guy who wouldn't understand or be able to keep up with what he wanted, where he wanted it, when he wanted it!...CONTROL!!!!!!! LOL
+Howard Mao Miles Davis effect ;)
Amaaaazing amazing!!!
was... was that a drum solo played by two drummers? around the 15 minute mark? blown away!!!
If you haven't heard it yet, listen to the Tony Allen and Ginger Baker drum tune off the Fela Kuti and Ginger Baker record.
top notch yall
Whitley, she always takes time to be so thoughtful, thank you Ms. Quality Lady.
what a band!...amazing

FIRE!!!!!!
I mean, god yes. Give me this.
Beautifully crafted solos. Is that something they learn at Berklee or does it come naturally? Augmentation, development, inversion, transforms and rhythmic placement. What an amazing band!
both ways
Aye y'all really killed this! Absolute fire
sencillamente, pura genialidad!
God I love this guy
JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ! so good...
The end of K.K.P.D. made me cry - in a good, hopeful way.
what is the snare drums of the "african" drum kit ? Corey plays it too in tiny desk session. Sort of djembe but seems to have strainer too...
seems a remo mondo ?
incredible
The last number is spendid. It just lacks an alto solo (I like Braxton Cook).
Love that groove 26:30 - 28:12 with the 2 snares
Love this!
Nice flute!
Warren!!!
Love song
Did anybody else catch that at 18:46 I wonder what Christian is saying to the bandmates? looks like he was concerned about something?
TOP !!!
Could someone post the tracks? I really dig the flutist and the piano player, well the whole band is great but those two have the best solos.
wonderful
Elena is a beast floutist and the most beautiful creature that God has ever put on one lol... I'm a trumpeter in S.C. God bless this band. Y'all are awesome.
Ok the App is called Stretch Music.
An album as a phone app? ........ that's fucking genius
That FLUTE, though !!!
I really liked the second song. Nice latin overtones.
Kenneth Segovia Its called Twin
Kenneth Segovia “Latin” is a language not a sound. African took all the sounds within Them while Enslaved to the so called “latin”. Misnomers
@@Evo4Justice well tell it to Scott who has mentioned in several presentations that one of his influences is Latin American music
that's part of the art...
elena !!!!!
That shirt goes so hard
DAAAMN!!!!
deep love

Can anyone tell me what she did at 8:54 it sounded amazing
Could be she's grace noting an E (3rd register) to an F ( 3rd register)
About the only innovative thing thro' the entire solo
Who's in charge of the audio/sound board???? Like foreal...I hope it sounded better on the radio.
The newer drummer played over everyone a little too much but the song says so much if you go listen to it without the newer drummer.
I think the name of the flutist woman is Elena Pinderhughes. Who, by the way, you forgot to mention in the credits @WBGO. Shame on you.
Pretty cool fact 50 cent plays vibes
