    Glad the fans are keeping the Castlevania games alive with their works, impressed how much content there is in this Metroidvania styled version. I think this is a really dang neat reconstruction of the first game in a modernized but still very familiar vein to the original. This seems absolutely great as its own game! Absolutely love thee music and accurate aesthetic theming to the first game.

      better than most fan remakes, and what's neat about this one is that it uses remix music of the classic game without turning it into an ear shattering rock metal. which alot of fangames tends to do.

      @@MariktheGunslinger true. this and the castlevania chronicles fangames are good examples of a decent fangame that sticks to their roots while adding new things without going over board. to the point what even is this game though the chronicles fangames. the only CV fangame so far that could've been great is Arkhouse's Curse of The Seal which has a lot of original art work level design and a more fiting rendition of cv2 music. unfortunately the game itself felt too empty and gameplay is a pain to play not to mention the story is just his own fanfic of CV2 and he made simon a complete gary-stu.

    What's crazy about Vinny's hypothetical V-tuber replacement scenario is that it's actually happened.
    Kizuna AI has gone through like 4 actresses at this point. Not that the old ones died, but they were replaced. If a company owns the model/character/likeness/whatever, they can absolutely just continue to have different voice actors for the v-tuber.

Was cool to see weapon crafting return in Bloodstained, and creature summons sort of like innocent devils. Still remember finding the second tower and the hidden meat-lair beneath the manor. The game did a lot right, I just wish the enemies weren't damage sponges.
      Also, the character dressed like he escaped the Square Enix bondage dungeon. I still remember that clearly.

But if you tell a studio Cellist "I will add some distortion to your cello recording" he will end your life right then and there. If you tell him; I will add some warmth, he will love you. its not that people would think this game is bad, it just wouldve been more favourable to improve on the original with better level design and more content, not change the core gameplay. for example, a game with no air control always has the same jump distance, and theres alot a level designer can do with that. this fangame is literally just shantae with a simon belmont skin. fun, but could have been more unique.

If you happen to stack several Boomerangs on the boss at the end of their throw range where they can land the most hits and you proc Crit on several of those hits, you just watch the Boss health bar disappear, also pretty cost effective for damage per projectile vs cost per projectile.

    • @JakeA6956
      @JakeA6956 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      They weren't "objectively" bad. The stairs functioned the same as walking forward and could even be jumped on. The 'problem' with stairs was falling off of them when you got hit, but that's a skill issue. The jump is literally just a realistic jump. CV1, 2, 3, and 4-to a degree-required you to be deliberate with your attacks and movement. They functioned in the same way how souls requires you to watch your stamina and not just swing or roll with wild, reckless abandon. They punished carelessness. Neither was broken in any way, has impeded speed runners and top-tier players as 'bad mechanics', nor is there an inherent flaw with either mechanic putting limitations on control. All games put arbitrary limits on your controls.
      In short...
      Git gud

    • @t-universegamer7609
      @t-universegamer7609 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@JakeA6956 This. It's something i see a lot of newbies say over and over without stopping to think for five seconds on how EVERY game has arbitrary restrictions to what you can or cannot do. This is only an issue if the level design does not account for your lack of mobility, in which case, the vast majority of time, it does. However, I'm not gonna sit her and pretend some of the earlier titles didn't abuse this fact to make super cheap shots and for you to take a hit while jumping or just putting an enemy super high up where you cant reach and throws objects at you to make you fall while jumping. You start to see those kind of tactics less and less as the series goes on, since they're more of a product of it's time than anything.

    • @CosmicWaltz7
      @CosmicWaltz7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@CassiusStelar It's still an obscene amount of mashing versus every other Castlevania, even with the best items you can craft per area explored. Sure, going back to areas is easier, but you also usually have enough health and armor boosts on the way back that you don't even need to attack, unless you're farming those damn weapon crystals. It was just poor conversion to 3d. Instead of figuring out the stage and the attack patterns, they made it more about strike and dodge mechanics with increased enemy health and combos, but with enemy population comparable to other Castlevania games. Just makes it a slog to play.
      And I fully completed the game. Sometimes I think to go back to it, which lasts a little bit past the shop area before I realize how bored I am. Modifying enemy health would probably fix that outright.

    I like castlevania 64 idk. I don't really remember having problems with platforming, and i thought the game was very easy but in a good way. The story was pretty neat. The legacy of darkness or whatever the DLC/sidequel was called, had werewolf guy and i remember really liking the puzzles there

    On the subject of blurry pixel games, the funny thing is that probably a clear majority of games made for low-resolution platforms over the years probably did have pretty crisp pixels. Either because they were made for DOS PCs whose monitors were high enough DPI to target twice that resolution (or other types of computers that could use either a monitor or a TV, and probably had a pretty even ratio among their owner base and _definitely_ the developers were using monitors), or because they were made for handhelds with the same sharp LCDs we use today but with bigger squares.
    I kind of want to see some side-by-side comparisons like those where they get games that weren't made for TVs playing on one. I'm curious if it improves them too.

    Analog is fun!
    I do some visuals once in a while and I run them onto VHS and back to digital format. There's plenty of plugins available, I know, but the results are still a bit too high fidelity. PLUS, I can smack my VCR during digitizing footage to create temporary distortion, which is pretty cool too :)
    And also, I just love god awful interlacing that plugins that I've tried just simply don't provide.

    tbh, the first thing i would want to change in Castlevania is how the sub weapons work. I really dislike how easy it is to just accidentally pickup a sub weapon you don't want and lose the one you had. it should either require a button press to pick them up or the player should just be able to keep all of them and switch between them.

    • @crystalalumina
      @crystalalumina หลายเดือนก่อน

      They already solved that since Rondo of Blood, when you pick one the other one drops, so you can pick it back if you want

    • @elio7610
      @elio7610 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@crystalalumina it doesn't help much since you still automatically drop your previous sub-weapon when you touch a new one and there is not always much space to avoid touching the drops, your previous sub-weapon could potentially drop down a pit and become unreachable anyway.

    • @crystalalumina
      @crystalalumina หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@elio7610 I've never had those problems with the way it works already and I've played these games a lot, the only issue I've ever had is not finding the sub weapon I want at the moment, but since games like Aria of Sorrow have replaced the system with the soul system, it's even less of an issue

    Just beat this game and I liked it. The dev team could make a real original troidvania style game that isn't heavily borrowed if they wanted to. They seem very capable of making something like shovel knight or hollow knight if given a chance. This game seems a bit like an overly difficult long demo. It's not super long, nor super short. A lot of the movement options are just too convenient and you'll find yourself flying or sliding across the screen every screen once you get them because there's no downside to using them. There's no combination to starting or re-using. There's no mana or heart cost. You can just use them whenever you feel like. IMO I think the game would have been a bit better served if the movement options and level geometry were a bit re-tuned such that hearts were used when you used the movement mechanics and you needed to do some kind of basic controller combination to activate them other than just pressing a button and a direction.

    There’s some fun changes here (air control for example) but a lot of this just feels like shoving modern game design ideas into an old thing that doesn’t need them, diluting the actual fun of the original thing. Not to say you *shouldn’t* do experiments like this, but yeah I can’t imagine playing this much beyond a quick curiosity peek.
