Hello Jeff and thank you for sharing!! I placed some strawberry, tomato and cucumber seeds from store bought fruit and on a damp paper towel in a plastic container in hopes that they germinate!! I've been dying to try growing my own produce especially, strawberries and I love your great knowledge!!❤️😊🙏🏼
I've been using Organic Berry tone fertilizer in my strawberry baskets, container and ground. I have 3 varieties. I plan to divide one...will check out seaweed extract! Thx Jeff ✔️ ✅️
Hi Jeff, great advice on Strawberries, I have always fed mine when the flowers appear so, im going to do what you have advised and see how it goes. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Can you recommend something that has all of the micronutrients needed for strawberries? All i am finding only has the iron manganese magnesium calcium and sulfur. Sometimes with zinc but never boron.
I just got some from the nursery ... they're pretty small still and I think I even have several plants in them and will need to separate it. Probably will anyway. But I'm not sure if they were fertilized or not... could I add a bit still? Or is it too much if they did already? I also have a liquid fertilizer .. is that fine since it's only twice a year? It's 10-15-10. Sorry if this is a dumb one but is it safe to water from the top with the fertilizer in it too? Or bottom water ? I don't want to hurt the plant 🌱
Hey Vicki, I normally don't bother. Everbearing only get fed twice in an entire year and june-bearing once. I save the foliar sprays for the heavy-feeding plants.
Looking for some advice. My kids and I planted strawberries in pots because we didn’t have a lot of room in our raised garden beds, I trimmed a lot of runners off them throughout the season but our strawberries didn’t flower or fruit. Now the fall has come. We took all the dead plants out of the garden beds, and I was able to get the strawberries into one of the empty beds. I don’t know if it makes sense to put any fertilizer on them at this time of the year. I saw some of your videos about overwintering’s strawberries, so we are planning to do that, but I don’t know anything else to do to set them up to thrive next year.
Strawberries shut it down for the winter..... The best thing is just a quality soil, top dressed with compost, then mulched. The plants will spring back to life once the last frosts subside in the spring. Don't worry about nutrients until then. :-)
Hi Jeff, thanks again for another helpful tip. I went a different route with my potted plants that overwintered in my cool garage. Since I was repotting them anyway, I gave them a new blend of soil with something called Pittmoss. It seems to have needed nutrients in it. Quick question: my mother plants (just purchased last year) look very bulky, like they have a lot of crowns maybe? Some have growth, some do not. Do I need to break them up at some point? I am new to this so not sure what to do. My two "daughter" plants from last year look good. 👍
Fresh soil and a repotting totally works too Jennifer! For the mother plants, generally year 4 or 5 is when you break them up. So it all depends on how old they were when you bought them.... I usually break them up in the fall AFTER all the fruiting. There's a 2 month window where you can re-establish the plants no problem, that way you don't affect or set back that year's harvest.
@The Ripe Tomato Farms Thank you so much for the reply! I think I will just wait then, because I have no idea what the age of the mother plants are. I bought them last summer on clearance, so this will be my first harvest, if any at all. I did see berries last summer so at least that was a good sign. Plus, I got the two daughter plants off of each mother plant. This is just a small patch for me to try. Thanks again!
I use seaweed compost. Will that provide some of those micro nutrients or should I get a liquid fertilizer as well? Great info as always and very timely.
Hi Gail, I'd give them a boost of something as its still quite early. They have flowers because the grow company accelerates their cycle to have the plants ready for sale now. I just leave them on. :-)
No, that defeats the purpose of the cover crop lisa. If you cut them right before they go to seed, but not too early, most cover crops simply die...they don't become the weeds you're trying to prevent. And by not digging them up, we preserve the top soil from damage and destruction.
Hi! I just started with some transplants. They already had a few fruits. I haven't fertilized them yet. They are alpine ever bearing. I'm in 9b and its in the 80s here. When should I fertilize? Should I wait it out til fall? Some of the leaves are starting to turn yellow. Also, what is the best raised bed soil for strawberries ? Thank you!
Could you tell us what brand you use. I looked on Amazon and most seaweed products don’t tell you the NPK value and if I’m buying seaweed for my strawberry plants I would to buy something that’s actually good for them.🌷💚🙃
Hi Judy, I use a local brand, so its not really sold on Amazon. There also happens to be a MASSIVE shortage of fertilizers on the market right now. Aim for one with equal N.P.K. numbers. Even this one would do fine, although I'd like to see it have a higher K number: amzn.to/3H98f8q
Hi Jeff. I’m just starting to clean up the strawberries I overwintered for the start of spring up here. Some of the plants have white mold on them. Would u happen to know of a organic home mixture I could spray on them to clean them up? Thank you

You can fertilize with borax to supplement boron. Mule team is good and cheap.
Dissolve a not large amount of borax in a large amount of hot water then add to more water to dilute
Hey Jeff. Your teachings are sinking in. Great teachings. FATHER GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IN JESUS NAME 🙏 ❤ LOVE YALL ❤

I think June bearing. Whatever I can find at this late date.

QUESTION….. do you foliage feed your strawberries?

Oh no Rider nation hits the strawberry patch.

100% Sandy! That's the best! Incorporate it into the mulch and top layers of soil.....pure gold.

Hi Gail, I'd give them a boost of something as its still quite early. They have flowers because the grow company accelerates their cycle to have the plants ready for sale now. I just leave them on. :-)
I see that you cut your cover crops with scissors. But did you fully dig them up before planting your vegetables?
No, that defeats the purpose of the cover crop lisa. If you cut them right before they go to seed, but not too early, most cover crops simply die...they don't become the weeds you're trying to prevent. And by not digging them up, we preserve the top soil from damage and destruction.

With compost and good soil, most certainly it would Lori......for sure! :-)
Glad I watched it cause I was thinking about a second dose this spring. I'll just get some good compost instead.

What do you use on your Strawberry plants
Seaweed extract....slightly higher in Potassium (K).
