Former Botswana President Ian Khama reacts to the issuance of an arrest warrant against him

- Former president of Botswana Khama Ian Khama says the reported warrant of apprehension issued by a magistrate court in Botswana against him and other people who are close to him is a confirmation of harassment by the Botswana government. Speaking to SABC International News editor Sophie Mokoena, former head of state of Botswana says of the law enforcement agencies of Botswana, "if they evoke the extradition treaty that binds SA and Botswana, this matter will have to be ventilated on a foreign court and he will expose those behind his current challenges".

I'm saddened by this. Botswana has been one of the shining stars of Africa. I pray it stands the test of time.
1. He must stop hiding and spreading lies about Botswana Government from a foreign country.
2. He must come back home to face the courts and prove his innocence. His co-accused persons are here, nobody is hurting them. They walk, dine and drive freely at any time of the day.
3. He must come to Botswana to prove his innocence and stop baseless conspiracy theories.
4. Like all citizens of Botswana, Ian Khama is subject to the Laws of our Republic. Every individual, no matter how wealthy or powerful they are, is equally subject to the Laws of our Republic. The man is a narcissist. He derives pleasure from spreading falsehoods in order to gain sympathy.

@@dylanmodise502 I can tell you for sure what he DIDNT do. He didn't use Botswanas public finances as his own piggy bank like EVERY other leader in Africa does with their nations finances.
As Ian Khama says, his crime is walking away from his Father's party, Domkrag (BDP) and joining an opposition party and causing Domkrag to lose seats. If that is so, it is truly an African problem and we need to find a solution. In Africa, when you switch parties or start your own party after leaving the ruling party, you become an enemy. WHY? We need to grow and go beyond party politics and deal with issues people face.
As to his influence, Ian is the De facto Paramount Chief of the Bamangwato and this is a serious position. Bamangwato are a huge influence in Botswana and even in politics. He enjoys a lot of influence and Masisi knows it and that scares Masisi.
What worries me is that in Botswana, there has ALWAYS been a peaceful transition and handover. I lived in Botswana under Presidents Ketumile Masire and Festus Mogae and handovers were peaceful. Why has this transition and handover been this difficult? Former Presidents literally live in peace in Botswana. Why is Ian being given this kind of treatment?

So it is natural to comment on strange things. This is unlike Botswana politics. It never happened in history as far as i can remember. Whyis it happening between Ian and Masisi? Why? It never happened between Sir Ketumile and Festus; Festus and Ian. Why is it happening between Ian and Masisi? It meeses up Botswana's reputation as a model democracy.
What did Ian do that Masis is going after him?

There's a true justice system here and if a former head of state fears the justice system that he was the sole leader of ....then it means something else. Batswana just want to see how JUST that system is. We don't want to be seen voting people who do t respect our constitution into power if we are a democratic country.
