- The 42 Laws of Ma'at (the Negative Confessions) are a set of ethical and moral principles derived from ancient Egyptian wisdom (Sebayt) and texts such as the Book of the Dead (Book of Coming Forth by Day). They were recited by the deceased during the judgment of their heart against the feather of truth, which determined their fate in the afterlife.
42 Laws Of Ma'at is a list of 42 sins which the soul of the deceased can honestly say it has never committed when it stands in judgment in the afterlife.
These principles emphasize personal integrity, truthfulness, respect for others, and harmony with the natural order. They reflect ancient Egyptian beliefs about moral conduct and were a guide to achieving a just and righteous life, essential for a favorable judgment in the afterlife.

Hammurabi laws in Iraq is older so don't say middle east
All respect to Hammurabi laws.
But keep in mind Hamurabi laws are "Criminal Laws" ... a certain punishment for a certain crime.
While Ma'at laws (principles) are "Moral instructions to be followed for moral life."
