Chris Do's insights on branding are incredibly valuable, especially his emphasis on storytelling and distinctive positioning. For any business, crafting a narrative that resonates with your audience can set you apart and foster stronger connections. It's not just about what you offer, but how you present your story to the world that counts. Lovely content.

Masterpiece. As it relates to “The Ugly” company, it works because it creates a conflict. The bag says “Ugly”, but everything else about it says otherwise…refined format, “Beautiful in the inside”, vibrant color. It doesn’t comport with a lay person’s heuristics-Ugly things are not supposed to be that happy and be so confident. Pure genius! It appeals to a variety of audiences…specially the ones that want to be confident even though they feel ugly. Let that sink in-the ultimate hook is that inherently most of us want to be that bag…be who we want to be (maybe ugly) but showing the world that ugliness is our superpower…

Okay there are about 5 important things to know from this talk before the key points:
      1) The brand - a person's gut feeling about a product, service or organisation.
      2) Branding - which is impression management, how we influence people's impressions of us.
      3) Positioning - which is the space your brand occupies in the hearts and minds of the customer RELATIVE TO competitors.
      * Who do you stand for? Who do you stand against? Believes? Values? + you must behave in a consistent way.
      4) Marketing - "The generous act of helping others to get what they want" -Seth Godin
      * Sell to the people who actually want to hear from you instead of interrupting strangers that don't.
      * Meet them, give them value + when they consistently get to know you keep adding more and more value (permission marketing)
      * Create a customer journey map, but don't stop at the conversion, go for the advocacy:
How can I give so much delight that they are compelled to tell other people.. It's about sharing the experience that resonated with them.
      5) Purpose - "The purpose of a business is to create & keep a customer" - Peter F. Drucker
So when we want to design a message that has the right feeling in line with our brand we start with:
      1) What is the n1 value proposition
      2) How does the brand sound? What is the tone?
      3) What does the brand look/feel like?
      4) Pick the best 2 of tone/voice & look/feel and find images that match those feelings
The point is they are selling you a feeling (f.e. the upcycled peaches are not pretty on the inside but the message is)
      So what is the strategy?
      1) Turn weaknesses into strengths (trash to treasure, and guilt to gold)
      2) Write a compelling story using the 3F's (Facts, feelings & fun)
      3) Personality - be relatable (people don't fall in love with corporations, they fall in love with personalities (- Yo Santosa)
I hope someone find these notes useful and I wish you luck with your brand!

People think they can "do accounting" without the proper training and certifications. If you're so qualified, why don't you have your CPA?? This is why REAL accountants are undervalued in the industry. Many states don't even let you call yourself an accountant without being licensed. It's like going around telling people you can do their heart surgery, but oh by the way, I have no medical degree and I'm not licensed.
