The 1600s is amazing enough but the history from the 1400s just blows me away. How well cared for this beautiful priory is. The craftsmanship is absolutely fascinating Sue!
You are so lucky to live where you have so much history at your feet. Beautiful stonework. Hard to believe its still standing. Thanks Sue for another great story.
Amazing & awe inspiring. It had to have taken hundreds of not thousands of man hours to construct. If only the walls could talk. We Americans do not have history anywhere near as old Ireland's. It is so enjoyable to walk through these cemeteries with you.❤
That place is really cool, imagine how beautiful is was in it's day. I can see the people who were there walking around. Thanks for sharing that beautiful place. Makes me want to really visit Ireland. It's in my bucket list.
One of your top three Sue! Absolutely takes me back to roaming the countryside with my Dad in 1981 before having to go up into Northern Ireland where it was bad. I love Ireland so so much. Can't wait to see it again. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ♥️ 🇮🇪
I can't imagine how you must feel walking through such ancient times. It's already almost overwhelming in the beauty of it all. I can't thank you enough for this wonderful journey ❤️ 🎉
Breathtaking and massive. Can just visualize the nuns and monks walking thru their respective portions of the priority. As far as the lady with her two cats back in 1830, that is difficult to imagine how inclement the weather would have been at times during the 2 + years she lived there. Wonder where she is buried. RIP to all.
Thank you Sue for this video. It was actually like being there with you, such a beautiful old Priory. I live near the ruins of a Priory in Dudley West Midlands, however there is not nearly as much left of it as Bridgetown Priory.
Thank you Sue, you are brilliant. Thank you so much for making it possible for me to see the most beautiful graves I have ever seen. God bless you in all that you do. 😘🌹🌺💕👍🏼🇵🇷🇺🇲
Yaaay, Bridgetown Priory 😁brings back lots of memories walking through these magnificent ruins to fish the river behind. When doing a piece to camera here for a tv fishing programme, I couldn’t for the life of me remember the benefactors name but 30 yrs on now I’ll never forget the name of William Fitzhugh Roche 😂😂 can’t wait !
Such a beautiful spot and the priory is stunning! Another great video. The video quality is so clear and crisp! My late father was trained in masonry, in Germany, and he always wanted to see Ireland. He would have looked at the priory and said: " That's how you build a real building!" LOL. Congrats on 20k too! 😊👏❤
The ruins are just stunning, Sue, and the monuments inside are so so interesting, great history lession! It's hard to imagine that it's as old as it is, I would have loved to see it back in the day, wouldn't you?
Sue you are too brave for your own health! Don’t be climbing unsafe stairs,I’m glad they were walled off! What an amazing place. Maybe the lady who lived there was mentally ill and we know what institutions were like back then. The villagers might have wanted to protect her from that.
I visited here 43 years ago when on a camper van holiday with my dad. There were no information boards back then. Absolutely lovely place. Thanks for the history Sue xx
Oh, what a historic place!! A 14-month-old, a two-year-old…😢😢 Love the Celtic Crosses. So many so young. I can’t remember anymore the graveyards we visited in Ireland. It was very “In” thing back then to do rubbings on the artwork and the tombstones themselves. The 13th century…wow! 😮 The stonework all around is amazing. At least living in a cemetery you’d have quiet neighbors. 🤷🏼♀️ Oh, I was going to guess the holes were where they’d put the lighted torches to have light inside. ?? Thank you all for this video…quite incredible. ❤❤
Wow That was amazing so beautiful too, the woman who lived in there with her cats was brave! I don't think I could it would be very creepy at night. Thank you Sue love to you and GV ❤
What a beautiful church and story!!!! I try to see in my mind the people living and working and praying back so long ago...Just like us but a different time. Thanx Sue for another super great video.❤😊❤😊❤😊😊😊
Fascinating, beautiful, haunting (in a good way) and humbling - all at the same time. GREAT video Sue and thank you for the information you shared. ❤ Loved this one ~ Cobs. x
What an absolutely awesome structure from back in time Sue. It,s amazing what still stands after all this time. Imagine a woman living there with her cats. What an incredible place!❤
@@Serenity Sue Bridgetown Priory was such wonderful find Sue. It's such peaceful setting. Back in the 1980s I had a partner who loved church architecture. We visited many of the old priories and abbeys including Jerpoint Abbey, Moyne Abbey, Claregalway Friary and the extraordinary Kells Abbey. They all had that beautiful sense of quiet and peace. We never got to visit Bridgetown Priory and I wish we had. Unfortunately our relationship didn't work and we went our separate ways in 1998. We rekindled our friendship over the phone last year as Dermot was living in Rome. But Dermot was not well and sadly he passed away in April without us being able to meet again. Your video brought back many beautiful and poignant memories. I only wish I could have shown it to Dermot. He would have loved it. Many thanks for a very special video."
Ahh I'm so sorry to hear that, may he rest in peace, I have a video here of jerpoint abbey, might bring back some more fond memories for you. Once again I'm very sorry
@SerenitySueGraveyards I'll definitely have to look at that video, Sue. Thanks so much for your kind words of sympathy. They're very much appreciated. Dermot's ashes haven't come home yet but his wish was to be interred with his parents in Drumphea Cemetery in Co, Carlow. I will be there and we'll have a party in celebration of his life afterwards.
Those strange markings on the table tomb are all different symbols for different meanings. I keep a book in my kitbag, buy from a second hand bookshop, the modern ones don't have many of the older symbols, and I was surprised as to how many witches etc, symbols were found in the most unusual places.
The river Awbeg joins the Munster Blackwater just behind the Abbey, there’s a very deep salmon pool infront of a magnificent limestone cliff face formed by a huge stone croy reputedly built by the monks to facilitate their salmon catching. I bet they didn’t use fishing rods though hahaha!

Fantastic Sue. That is a place taking a good look around. The fish symbol ( Salmon ? ) on the coat of arms means Wisdom, so that person was possibly a person of importance. Maybe say a Sheriff or Peace Keeper that would settle issues for the inhabitants.

Yes, thanks
I think the long walkway with the arched roof would be a logical place for the cat lady to set up camp out of the rain.
Yes, at least it would be dry there
Why are the tombs and headstones inside the monastery
When churches and abbeys etc became abandoned they are allowed to be buried inside
