With all respect, the LAPD HIRING SYSTEM NEEDS TO CHANGE. Too many good applicants/ candidates that do not get hired over small/ petty backgrounds discrepancies. Others get picked up with serious background issues; I don't understand. CHANGE THE HIRING SYSTEM!..... please.
My father served in the military as Military Police. After he got out he applied to become a police officer for LAPD but they didnt accept him for a stupid reason. Something about his back.

Frozen Over it does, you learn gun tactics VERY useful in the academy, your gonna be fit for the physical examination, you will be strong enough to do anything that has to do with fitness, it does help you.

Where I live you can be 14 yrs old and up.. to go into an academy to learn to be an police officer!!! I'm trying to figure out how to become a police officer I've searched and look up and studied... This police officer really helped me she gave me confidence that I can do this. I thank her :)
I worked as an union actor and wedding singer as well without a career, I often being booked as a police officer on the show but failed the speaking role audition, English is not my first language it would be hard on a English country.

Kevin Davis depending on what caused you to fail or drop out,in most cases the academy instructor will recycle you with the next class..

M Sal89 in Chicago if you have a family member who is currently in the department or retires or if you have Atleast 3 years active military you got put to the front of the list. I took the test and because I have no connections/military I was 6500 out of 8000 in my lottery pull it's been 3 years and still no call.

You can go into a specialization if you have the skills and experience. You start off as a patrol cop first

Make sure your record is clean, means get a disposition. Because if you're not totally a good person, you can at the least look like a good person.

As a long as you're a citizen of the U.S.
No visa. For LAPD you need to be either a US Citizen or permanent resident alien who has applied for citizenship.
If you still want to be a police officer in the US go to Colorado Springs (they hire green card holders). Good luck! Don't give up on your dream! Go Colorado!

Adrian Gomez pay is same. Look on LAPD website. No pay for multiple languages. Associate or no associate degree makes little difference. It all comes down to your personality.

And yes you gotta have extremely high grades to be accepted (in Romania even high school grades are important to get hired, if you graduated with shitty grades then keep dreaming baby! I wish I was in the US I would be already in the Academy if not on patrol by now.

Yes probably but you can't be older than 35 years of age trying to join unless you were in the army.
Its up to the individual agency where you apply. Best bet is to contact a recruiter and ask them directly rather than get information 2nd hand.

It is fucking hard....harder then anything I did at my university.....
Academics are different for everyone. Some are smarter than others. However the true test is after graduation. In the academy you deal with lot of theory. However you are not home free yet. You still have to make it through field evaluation once you are assigned to your department. An FTO (field training officer) will be assigned to you to see if you have what it takes to be a street cop. If you fail here and manage to make it out alive of course your future as a cop is over.

Almost no cops have a bachelor's degree. Some have an Associate degree many just high school.
In Orlando, Florida you need to have either a military background or a degree. Some agencies will hire you if you have an associate degree, others want a bachelors.
Most agencies do not require anything past a HS diploma to get in, but many require a college degree to promote. The agency I worked for required bachelors for sgts, masters beyond that.
You typically only need a degree if you want to be federal.
