- New record lap on the Nordschleife: Mercedes-AMG ONE is fastest production vehicle.
With 6:35.183 minutes, race driver Maro Engel sets the new best time on the 20.8-kilometre circuit.
Maro Engel improves previous record for road-legal production cars by a remarkable eight seconds despite less than ideal track conditions.

Very impressive lap. Especially considering the fact that the track was damp in some spots where he clearly had to back out a bit.
6:35 on a damp and presumably cold track. Would love to see them come back and try it again next summer, expect it could run sub-6:30.

Less that that on a good day with a dry track I reckon
trust in the car
I could possibly see 6m 15s-6m 25s on a perfectly dry track NO problem. Hell, I could see 6m 05s-6m 10s possible if he was able to go fully flat-out. Not saying those times are guaranteed but they are EXTREME possibilities and that is just insane to think about. Getting closer and closer to breaking the 6-minute barrier is just nuts to think about. When that happens, it would be a whole new ballgame. seeing who could be the first to go sub-5. The race is on now. Who will be the first? Only Father Time would have the answer.

Never ever. Watch the interview with porsche about that laptime.
Your claim is ridiculous unrealistic
Incredible suspension. It is the most composed car I’ve seen on that track. Makes those speeds seem so pedestrian. Truly a magnificent piece of engineering.
That triangular pushrod activated damper arrangement is genius. No anti roll bars. Full control over every suspension movement mode.
He broke the record while holding back a bit. Imagine if he went all out
"Forgive me, master... but it's time I went all-out"
and with shifts that slow.. It's weird to hear nowadays, sounds worse than an early naughties robotized manual
@@Aristocrafied yes forreal, but i think it's a choice, because electric continue to pull during shifting
@@Aristocrafied Might be that it's not totally sorted out but also the ONE has to use a single clutch gearbox as a necessity. A twin clutch is too heavy, doesn't fit the packaging right and, crucially, can't withstand the amount of torque and revs the engine can give
he wasn't holding back. He actually had to let off the gas in a few places so the battery would be at highest power possible for the final straight. If he didn't , then the car wouldn't reach its near top speed on the final straight thus losing time. Also it appears the track conditions were not ideal so this record could probably be brought down a few more seconds. Edit: source: mischa

Racing is about minimizing mistakes. Of my thousand laps on GT and those of my bud's, this is the most flawless lap I've seen. I saw 2 missed apexes, and right at the end, a compromised exit. So amazing! BRAVO Maro Engel!

Krasses Teil und Fahrer.... Respekt Maro bei den Verhältnissen!
wow! impressive. you can tell the hybrid just made it most of the way up the back straight and then only gave up after 337kph. I think this is the first production car to go around the nurburgring faster than a GT3 car, which does the 20600m section in about 6:33. This was the full 20828m, so it would have been 6:30.7 for the 20.6km
They also did it on the 20.6 circuit, 6:30.705
338kph actually
Suprised no one from Porsche was throwing crap on the track like usual 😄
GT3 cars don't really go any faster than about 280kph, so the almost 50kph advantage would make a decent dent in terms of time, however for the ONE to get this close to a GT3 car is genuinely impressive and if they were on equal tires than the ONE may win. however, give a GT3 close to 1000hp and i think it may be just a tad ahead than the ONE (given the driver can manage it).
whats the difference between the 20.6 vs 20.8 length of track? theres only one layout of nordschleife so wheres the 200 meters difference? i asked maro in his instagram post but he just said "200 meters"
When you think that's about the kind of laptimes they were doing on dry track in the mid 80s with Group C cars during the 1000kms of the nurburgring... and this is a production car !
Was thinking the same thing. Stefan Bellof's lap record seems within reach of production cars of the not-so-distant future. That's ridiculous!!!
1983 was as far as I know the last time Group C was on the Nordschleife. Pole for Bellof with a 6:11 in a Porsche 956. So the 956 on a hotlap was still 24 seconds faster 39 years ago. But considering the AMG is not really a track focused production car and twice the weight, it's really an impressive lap yes.
@@jeffreygreen9315 lol despite the 24h distance is 25km and not like here 20 bc it includes the GP track so simply: no. plus the track was way more difficult to drive back in the 80s it got detuned here and there for more safety many times since then

Brilliant run by the One! A record for now...but Porsche will always set the benchmark at the 'Ring! Either in a race, track or street car. The all time current record held by the 919 beat a 30 year record held by Porsche as well! No disrespect to other brands, but put up or shut up.
