My favorite saying I learnt is "the barefoot don't fear those who wear shoes." someone with nothing to lose will not be afraid of retaliation. "I destroyed your sect, how will you destroy my sect in revenge if I'm sectless and familyless?"
I remember one chinese idiom in a random Novel that stuck with me till this day (Never saw juniors state it. Cause it's barely said, but figured I'd share it in my own wording) "Draining the Pond to Catch the Fish" "By draining the pond to catch the fish, you may win this battle, but you’ll sacrifice the entire lake of your future!" Meaning: Refers to benefits through forbidden techniques or taboo methods at the expense of long-term cultivation potential. 🧿
Dont forget about the fat friend that is super rich in those garbage cultivation novels Such a nostolgia I used to consume them so much to the point I actually start bursting into laughter when these cliché momments happen
The best saying that I’ve heard is the parable about the false moon where a group of monkeys see the reflection of the moon in a lake, and make a monkey bridge to reach it, just for the reflection to disappear. It’s about how people get focussed on falsehoods rather than focussing on what’s truly important, and it’s also kinda funny
I don't use twitter so Imma just vent here. I just started this 'castle of black iron' novel and the first arc is so good, it's well written. the MC is the 'chosen one' ™ but he's pretty self-aware. he's not a depressed edgy young master. he has other male friends who are not just stepping stones. so first arc going good, they go on a survival training and MC bags 3 jade beauties(pretty early on, surely the author wants to develop them right :) ), kills the school bully, author is setting up some major war so the MC is gonna get conscripted. next arc, they come back and the other kingdom already invaded (MC doesn't care cause he was poor and noble arguments are not his deal), then MC gets raised to lieutenant of the new kingdom because of his secret technique... then it happens, the enshi*tification, the author gets into some serious Nationalism type shi about the MC realising the power of the Chinese, abandons all the friends from the first arc, just before he leaves he has a week long 'dual' cultivation with 85 jade beauties (and I had high hopes because just a chapter before one of the 3 original jade beauties abandons him because she doesn't want to fight for her own lover's affection. later, after he leaves she says 'I wish I had 'dual' cultivated with him.) it truly is better to know you're reading a brainrot novel beforehand than for a good novel to suddenly become brainrot. I should've looked at the tags.
Man. These videos are great. It is rare to encounter a fellow daoist. Most people have no idea what any of these things are. Quite nice to find someone who does!
Somehow any novel that has this is reduced to slop I really wonder why someone even bothers to write a cultivation novel if it's just a copy of like 700 ones before it
How did you firget the immortal classic of "I didn't know you had bamboo growing in your chest",or "if you refuse to eat - you will have to drink a loss"?Or the Legendary, the One Above All "If you said you were the second - who would say they are the first?" Btw - discord when?
Tbh most of these recurring slang terms seem pretty easy to piece together from context. What I don't understand are the "magic system" terms- stuff like Dao (I guess these are like natural laws, but they can be mastered too, how/what does that mean?), Bloodlines (I would assume they're powerful lineages, but protags often have multiple... can they be acquired somehow or are these characters all Ichigo-level genetic lottery winners?) If y'all have some beginner-friendly recommendations so I can figure this stuff out myself, though, I'd appreciate that too. Especially stuff with manhua adaptations.
Dao is the natural laws of the world, normally in cultivation stories people try to master 1 dao, it's like their signature element. Normally mastering a Dao is some bs meditation eureka moment and lets them just defy the laws of physics. Normally the late stage power creep. Bloodlines is exactly what it sounds like, it's what percentage of your genetics is from who, normally it's like a really small percentage of shared blood with an ancient powerful being as the trope. For example they will do some crap like a tournament to inherit a little bit of a phoenix bloodline or something, essentially adding some of the powerful creatures genetics to themselves for a power boost. The more rare and powerful the monster, the more powerful the person, normally the trope is that the mc will either have a super op bloodline innately or have the magical ability to just get a whole bunch of them all at once. Generally if you read any cultivation story, you have read them all and will see the same themes over and over. Which is why the genre gets pretty boring imo
It's weird, yes you can obtain a lineage. A common arc in these is somebody trying to steal the mc's divine lineage. It's the entire starting premise of Zhou Yuan. Tales of demons and gods is the most popular and beginner friendly. Martial Peak is one of the longest and oldest ongoing cultivation stories. Has all the classic tropes. Huge commitment if your trying to reach the end, but you will understand every trope of cultivation stories long before you there. Apotheosis is just a classic and lowkey a sped up version of Martial Peak. Zhou Yuan is pretty beginner friendly too. Devil butler and Ancient Sovereign are also goated. Probably shouldn't be your first read, but they are hilarious and top tier. Last thing, the average murim story is just better. Shout out the best manhwa in existence, Legend of the Northern Blade.
@@justinthompson6364 I was once confused aswell at everything related to Xianxia/Cultivation etc etc.... No one really guided me, But I just kinda learned the curve slowly but surely. Coiling Dragon Renegade Immortal I Shall Seal The Heavens Realizing This Is A Wuxia World After Cultivating For 300 Years Desolate Era Martial World (The MC is one of the realest 💯cultivators ever) Pursuit of The Truth Journey of the Fate Destroying Emperor Cradle (Not a webnovel, It's an actual book. it's written by a western author, so it might feel a little less foreign while still introducing you to some of the basic tropes of Xianxia.) Perfect World Necropolis Immortal Lord Xue Ying Top Tier Providence Battle Through The Heavens "A Thousand Li" (It's like Cradle, But the author includes a ton of footnotes. So if you stumble upon a Chinese proverb or weapon you've never heard of, there's a good chance the author gives a background explanation of it.) Lightning Is The Only Way (As most MC's are ruthless and kinda edgy, This man has morals and tries to uphold them as best he can.) Warlock of the Magus World Martial God Asura (This is actually a bad title lmao, But this was one of my first ever novels. Ain't really that bad fr, They're some key aspects that triggered readers....but besides that. It's alright) The Strongest System (Xianxia+Slapstick Comedy type beat) Dawn of The New World Reverend Insanity (I wish you utmost blessings in your cultivation journey 📿)
@@Rome_ForeiignSSE I'd super recommend Journey of the fate destroying emperor. Just got to the 1000th chapter. One of the few cultivation stories where not only is the mc very intelligent, but his allies and even his enemies are also very smart. They know when to back off, bide their time, force him into traps, or try and get rid of enmity with wang wei altogether when they realize they can't take him on.

the virgin old monster/young master vs. the chad young monster
Fun fact: Thanos in the Marvel comics is quite litterally courting death
Old monster, Fellow daoist, senior brother/brother, younger brother/sister (shidi/shimei), Young master, senior, junior, elder, family patriarch, sect master, sect elder, rogue cultivator, jianghu, inner disciple and outer disciple, dual cultivation, daoist partner, golden finger, face slapping, hugging thighs, courting death
My favorite saying I learnt is "the barefoot don't fear those who wear shoes." someone with nothing to lose will not be afraid of retaliation.
"I destroyed your sect, how will you destroy my sect in revenge if I'm sectless and familyless?"
I think it was :"A fish trying to leap through the dragen gate".
