I'm trying to find employment as a diversity hire, what should I do to make myself stand out? Should I go gay or transgender? Convert to Islam? I'm just trying to get a job and this seems like the only way to stand out among the competition.
@Fred Garven Just wondering, if it's so hard for a white person to get a job, why is unemployment for white people lower than it is for other races? And why does demographic data show that the majority of federal gov't employees are white. I'm just struggling to figure out how that works. Is it cause I'm basing what I say off actual data and not the one time you went to the DMV? I don't get it.
This whole concept is ridiculous on its face. What happened to actual standards? What happened to merit? Why is it every time I deal with diversity, I end up frustrated because it also means I’m dealing with incompetence?

My area has a 2% candidate pool others have a 60%, but our company has set a blanket 40% target of one specific type of human. This has seemed arbitrary from the get-go. Hey Jennifer, for diversity recruiting from a campus program perspective, do you have any insights on programs, software or organizations you can partner with to present a qualified candidate to your hiring team.

Define “diversity”? Is that judging someone by the color of their skin, etc. (physical attributes), or the content of their character(skills)? According to the US government this is illegal. Discriminating against one group by encouraging or seeking out another is against the law. Trying to make a company’s demographics match a certain population composition is exactly why the law was written. “For example, a help-wanted ad that seeks ‘females’ or ‘recent college graduates’ may discourage men and people over 40 from applying and may violate the law.” “It is also illegal for an employer to recruit new employees in a way that discriminates against them because of their race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.” “For example, an employer's reliance on word-of-mouth recruitment by its mostly Hispanic work force may violate the law if the result is that almost all new hires are Hispanic.” www.eeoc.gov/prohibited-employment-policiespractices

I've heard being white, cis, straight, and Christian works pretty well. After all, they have the lowest unemployment.
