I really enjoyed this one. The others are good too, but your interactions make this more alive. You have become my substitute of Tifo, since they let Joe Devine go and it just became like old guys in a pub talking statistics with no emotion. You two are fresh and if you keep this up, with your ideas and knowledge, you'll get a lot of subs!
Is Joe Devine not still doing the weekly show? And voiceovers? Although yeah, I'm in the same boat of having come here to fill the void Tifo changing left 🥺 Very good substitute tbf!
And I'm sure if this "smacks a bit of Ronaldo at the 2002 world cup", then France will be laughing, as Ronaldo scored 8 goals and lifted the trophy. Some of us do remember getting up to watch that tournament.
as a Bayern fan commenting on upamecano, yeah he kinda is that bad. Don't get me wrong he's got fantastic qualities especially on ball (which is why I believe Deschamps is playing him) He is by far the best long passer and most progressively minded CB in the France squad, and perhaps one of the more offensively minded CB in the euros, however he is everything that both Konate, and Saliba are just worse when it comes to actually defending. He is incredibly strong, he can muscle guys off the ball no problem just like both above ^ but he is much more sluggish, and does not have an ounce of agility in his body. He is prone to error more than the others. but my god can he play a 30-40 yard pass better than most.
i remember similar situation with czech national team in world 2006. jan koller was our striker, 2 m, on his day unplayable target man, all was build about him and second balls. he got injured in 40 minute of the first game. we got another big guy nowhere near his quality and it was the end for us. with rosicky and nedved in mid and jankulovski on lb, mind you.
Come on man y’all are sleeping on Kingsley Comman, Bacola, Kolo mauini, Antoine Griezmann and Marcus Thurman. Come on man most of these players are better than most attackers in Europe. France also have a solid back line with lots of sub. France can play aggressive they often time choose not to.
Upamecano I believe has 9 clean sheets in his last 10 starts. His lowlights are played so much but he’s honestly a good player w some shocking mistakes
its a bad injury, people thinking he can play after one week are mad. if he plays, he'll be playing injured. 6 week injury. all the opposition have to do is get physical with him and he can be in some serious trouble with that injury.
yeah had some discussions with people too saying he just will miss group games, nah, pretty sure he's out completely, that's a completely broken nose and a mask pretty much will do nothing
Quick answer… maybe, if Dembele stops wasting chances & looking more like Daniel James. He was seen as Barcas next Neymar but is nothing but a glorified French version of Daniel James or any of these regular wingers.
Dembele felt like a liability this game. He was even in danger of getting a red as he got lucky to not take a yellow for his dive. (The ref even identified it as not a foul, but didn't go through with a card for it)
Have a feeling Upamecano is starting over Konaté due to his reputation (poor evidence of it the last couple of years) for being better on the ball. Back when they played at RBL together he was seen as the smoother ball playing CB alongside the more physical aggressive Konaté. Possibly Deschamps trying to bring more line breaking creativity into the deeper part of the team now they have a more prosaic Rabiot alongside Kante instead of Pogba a few years ago.
Barcola, Dembele, Muani, Coman are all people who can replace Mbappe on the wings and even though they obviously aren't to his level, they can certainly still win games with them because they're top players 🙄 just stick the experienced head of Giroud in Striker. I'd even argue Griezman is harder to replace than Mbappe, cause he is the only person who I see as a capable CAM in that team , and besides that, he is their playmaker.
They've got enough depth, depends if Deschamps knows how to adapt under pressure until the end of the group stage. Kylian will come back with a ninja turtle mask, and retake control
They are going to win their next game. Deschamps on choose counter attack cause of Mbappe. Bacola of the left is also dangerous. Thuram is going to play 9 and Comman can play right wing.
Respectfully, I think you're dead wrong about France having no plan B for playing without Mbape. Sure, it's a huge blow to France's attacking abilities, but Camavinga, Tchouaméni and Giroud are no ornaments, they're on the squad for a reason. and that reason is that Dechamps can fall back on a more traditional buildup with Giroud playing #9, Griezmann behind him and probably Kolo Muani or Dembele and Thuram on the wing, Camavinga and Chouaméni holding midfield, and a solid defensive line in Theo Hernandez, Pavard, Kanté etc., and that's without mentioning the insanely deep bench the current France side has in just about every position. True, Mbape is irreplaceable, but no plan B? come on...
If England lose Kane that will be the BEST thing for England he is hindering the progress. Southgate feels he has to play hik and start him in every game because hes the captain, but hes a waste of space. Everyone else has to do all the work
At least he'll save some time pickin' his nose and cleaning his left ear at the same time. He'll get a whole new sensory experience as the first footballer to smell the sounds on the pitch. He will need to wear nose plugs though, he wouldn't want to take an errant finger in the nostril and poke out his left eye. Instead of having his ears lowered to celebrate the tournament, he elected to have his nose raised. He's always had a nose for goals; now they'll all be in the top left corner of the net. He already had the look of a ninja turtle, all he was missing was a little width on the snout. That could have been an epic header had he had a little better sniff at the ball. Etc...etc...
Come on, people. Best player in the world is Messi. Wasn't that established just a few months ago? 😄😄 Jokes aside, I really don't know that it is justified tailoring a system this much around one player, at least not when said player isn't quite an alien in terms of production. Peak Messi, yes. Peak Ronaldo, yes. People like Bellingham and Mbappe? Eh. It's okay if they have a reasonably good game but there will be a fair few times when the oppo shut them down and then what? Then you've made everybody else rubbish for the sake of one guy who isn't even performing. And just throwing it in here, but I don't think losing Mbappe is that bad if the Frenchies adapt to it. They've got all the quality they need, assuming they can change their mindset and step up. Giroud can do a tank forward, Thuram can do a reasonable number 9, Griezmann can do a false 9. They have the quality all around to play "regular" football, assuming they can come together and actually work as a team. But that part has been such a struggle for France so many times, with all the profiles wanting to hog the glory, making the play rather stale relative to what it could be.
@@markjohnson3196 It's not really a question of having a right to be the center piece player. It's about whether it makes the team better than it otherwise would be. Is France a stronger team with Mbappe at max at significant detriment to everybody else? I am not convinced. I think Mbappe is plenty good that he'd perform well almost regardless but getting the most out of everybody else would widen the threat, and either give Mbappe more room or severely punish teams for focusing too much on Mbappe.
@@markjohnson3196 FFF is more arguably built around Griesman. Griesman when playing with France is almost a true Libero. Something we don’t see much these days. Mbappe is a dynamic distraction and gets marked heavily and out of games often. France losing Mbappe isn’t the same as Argentina losing Messi.

Mbappe is not completely ruled out for a surgery but he does not need it in the IMMEDIATE future at least according to the French FA
Forget everything about what made you think France weren't up to it. Kante in that form can win a tournament by himself.
