I'm offended about the Starfield pronoun situation, I made my character to look like Michael Jackson, and the only pronouns avaliable were he/him and not he/hee
The only thing I wish they added was the ability to "land" on/in these gas giants, sun's, black holes; but it's just a cutscene of your ship exploding 😂
I think you should be able to approach a star, black hole, or gas giant and be realistically annihilated. It would be a lot funnier to see the tweet of a man who doesn't understand why his ship was turned into a singularity vs someone complaining that they can't approach the celestial body in the first place.
For the gas giant I'd say a good thing to show would be the sound of a can being crushed on a black screen, the black hole would just be a black screen, and a little animation from far-off where your ship is just a tiny speck just a bug zappering itself into the sun would be funny
Wow that actually would have been so good haha. Another missed opportunity. it’s such a small component of the game (letting the player control the ship and other vehicles) but it takes away so much from the over all experience. smh

For the "mass effect gas giant thing", yes you can go to a gas giant in the game. Its the shadow broker DLC. You are on a space ship though for the entire mission. :D
Yeah, but it's all in a space station in the upper atmosphere of a gas giant, and even then the only reason the station can survive is because of the forcefield that Mass Effect fields can create.
@@alexlyster3459 I am being charatable to the people posting about the gas giant stuff. I think they just want floating stations just like in star wars.
Hagalaz (the planet the Shadow Broker's ship is on) isn't a gas giant. It's a rock planet whose surface is split between freezing cold and burning heat. Where the two seasons meet a constant mega-storm rages. If you want an actual gas giant that you visit in Mass Effect (also in ME2) then look no further than the brown dwarf that contains the derelict Reaper.
On the whole it isn't a big deal thing. Even as someone who doesn't really care about the pronoun debacle, I did find it alarming that mod sites like Nexus mods are actively taking down mods that remove pronoun selection all together, I mean Act Man was even community noted about this on Twitter.
Why would you need that though? When you pick the male or female body, it automatically picks the set of pronouns that your body type is typically assigned to. You don’t have to touch that. It does it for you.
exactly, even if there might be bigoted modders it just shows an obvious bias and lack of spine when it comes to nexusmods, "if they arent a big deal, then shouldnt be a big deal to mod them out amirite?" Then the internet was a mistake, because the first thing we started doing in the 80s was talking to eachother lol. And yet, sometimes I think the internet was a mistake, or at least the popularity of it isn't good. Back in the late 90s I remember people acting like I was a nerd for web surfing lol, but most companies didn't invest heavily in internet sites or infrastructure to run their business online, because most people weren't there, they were still in the stores. LiveJournal was the closest thing to current social media, but it was mostly just people who knew eachother irl that commented on eachothers posts in my experience, which made it better imo
The "controversy" around Kingdom Come: Deliverance is the ultimate example of woke. Wanting more black people in a game about historical medieval Czech is just peak American horseshit.
Or as Az correctly points out, peak modern day Californian horseshit. Same with games like TLOU2. Set in some of the reddest of red states, but there are pride flags around every corner and every man is a manbun wearing Hispanic californian metrosexual.
Yup I remember that during the development their tag line was "dungeons and no dragons" or something like that given their strong focus on realism. But now I'm just imagining "dungeons and no dragons but now with extra black people in mediaeval Bohemia" hmm.. for some reason not as catchy lmao

@@spacecowboy1438 I mean, their dialog has always been a meme. I think what made FO4 irritating compared to other BGS titles, and made this game intolderable at times, is the way the game has gotten more realistic looking and the voice actors are better. They did something like this is Mass Effect Andromeda. Whenever you drove near a cliff edge, your crew would freak out. It got really annoying, really fast
Yeah I think that's why some players are a little bummed out, is because Starfield doesn't let you find out the hard way... they just 🐔-block you with barriers instead of a death wall which would be just as easy to implement but infinitely much cooler.
I haven't even played Starfield, or Diablo 4, or Hogwarts Legacy, but the heated discourse surrounding all 3 of these games has provided me with more content and entertainment than the games themselves ever could have if I'd played them.
Entertainment ? You find this entertaining ? It's depressing is what it is. It's depressing that so many people are this petty and stupid. We all have to share this planet together and everyday it seems they just get more and more unhinged.
Yes, NASA trains astronauts in giant swimming pools. Also because it sort of emulates the feeling of weightlessness. So it's also not ridiculous to assume that with future (lighter weight) spacesuits, swimming would be entirely possible...
@@timpointer6664the thing is space suits tend to have some natural bouency. Similar to a submarine. Air is less dense then water and part of a space suit design is often to fill the suit with air surrounding the person inside. Its also why some car can "bounce" upward after crashing into water. And takes time to actually sink into the water, as the air leaves the entier of the car Its also why early deep sea divers needed weights to keep them on the sea floor Heck there's even an argument that the space suits in starfield actually make it harder to swim below the surface. Since they are effectively ultra light human shape balloons.
Something I wanted to add at the end but forgot is this isn't an excuse to not have under water swimming in game. Its a counter to anyone who says that it's unrealistic for a person in a space suit to float on the surface of the water. The most offensive thing in starfield is the file size I get the game is huge in size and scope, but frankly it isn’t a technological leap in terms of visuals and character animations compared to something like fallout 4 which is only 27 gigs and I’d argue starfield looks more like a remastered upscaled version of that game
It’s likely due to the textures and meshes because of how many different kinds of planets you can go to. Even if they are all similar, the different color schemes and biomes requires them to all be separate textures with slight variations.
27 gig with old textures. Add only the HD texture pack its more than double. Your complaint is totally out of touch with reality. 100gigs is actually not much for a game this size and 4k textures. In 2 years with mods and DLCs it goes easily over 200gigs. Memory is cheap what do you complain any way?
The landing on gas giant thing always reminded me of that scene in Futurama where the professor says their spaceship is only build to handle atmosphere pressure of 0 and 1

If the message on the mug was about adding flavor to the game, making it reflect in game ideologies, shouldn't there be bad guys with fucked up messages as well? I would love for bethesda to make an update for whenever a player tries to "land" on non habitable/dangerous bodies of space, they get a cutscene where they the ship just fall apart and die
@whitmanmalemanReal. I think it also stems from them trying to widen the market to people who aren't gamers. It used to be a niche to like video games but now it's cringe to even say "gamer" because everyone plays video games. A bad direction for the quality of the art in my opinion.
My hot take is that the majority of the game is the worst part of Fallout 4. You know the parts where you're running around in between places, and you find a house with some raiders? That's what a lot of Starfield feels like.
The main story arc presents no apocalyptic threat to be averted. There are minimal stakes in play, and those that exist threaten the main character as much as any other mortal danger.
I nearly refunded this game on the first day, I pushed beyond the first 6 hours, and man was it worth it. UC Questlines really sucked me in, already have plans for a potential 2nd and 3rd playthrough.
funny part about that comparison is that everyone called fallout 4 dogshit on release but somehow after 2 years look back with rose-tinted glasses oh the game is amazing why everyone complain, starfield is here and the cycle continues. 15-30 bucks in year or 2 when game is in discount bin with added dlc is probably when game is an 8 or 9.

"Woke" isn't just "contrived", it means valuing group identity over individual rights, merit, and aptitude for a given task. For ex Holdo represented a girl-boss trope, and existed in the narrative (barely) just to deconstruct the male protagonists. In this case, the woke element is a type of feminism. I think you're jumping to "contrived" because you're assuming these woke elements exist in a narrative setting like Starfield or The Last Jedi, and they don't, necessarily. In recent memory, what we refer to as woke is characterized by a political movement that tries to gather members of disparate protected classes to its cause, usually by framing enlistees in a Marxist-style class struggle between oppressed and oppressor. Your New Vegas example, the fascist wanna-be, was also contrived, but wasn't particularly woke.
But where do you get that from though? I'd say, at its core, 'woke' is just about social awareness. But the term is a political instrument coined by politicians, not just a word. I don't think anyone who is leftist would call themselves or their ideas 'woke' as if it is a neutral word.
Ngl I woulda liked an option to fly to the sun or a gas giant only for my spaceship to be completely obliterated. Woulda been more interesting than some parts of this game.

My one problem with starfield is the whole traveling in space thing. I wish you could land on planets (not in a cutscene) and fly around and explore in your ship. I also think it would be more immersive if in order to travel at all you didn't have to open the main menu
Yeah the exploration part feels like a cutscene simulator and the main selling point the exploration Edit: just to clarify iam not saying seamless travel is bad but you dont even have an option to travel 😔
Definitely, it's disappointing because I was expecting Elite dangerous style of flying around, with full control. But hey, space legs on consoles at least!
The game was never intended to be star citizen, plus for a game this big such seamless transitions aren't that feasible, due to technical limitations. Honestly I'm fine with that. I don't want to spend 2 hours trying to reach a planet's surface after jumping in.
I went to my local GameStop to get Starfield and immediately returned it because the game wouldn’t let me fly head on into the Sun, I’ve never felt so cheated in my life
@@sword_racer185one of the most polished ? Thats a complete lie and i dont care for old Bethesda comparisons im 18 i couldn’t careless. Not everyone played the old games
Well its not just about Bethesda. It's about the state of large role playing games in general. For example Baldur's Gate 3 was launched with a plethora of major bugs (including a few game breaking ones) in Act 2/3 and was only fixed after launch. And then there were Bethesda's previous titles and Cyberpunk as well. In this kind of context releasing a game the size of Starfield with as few bugs as it had looks reasonably impressive.
I mean they could have the cities arm a “shield” that protects them from the elements. Like say you land on a hot planet, the city is fine but you step “out of bounds” you start taking hella damage and get a extreme temp alert. Same with cold, same with stormy planets, I think that would be a neater way then letting the player walk for 8 to 10 minutes only to find out there’s a invincible wall. Imagine walking up to this slightly transparent wall and thinking “TF is this?”, looking past it, then seeing like powerful winds and rain blowing shit around, intense mirages from the heat cause the planet doesn’t have a strong atmosphere, or just straight up frozen trees and rocks.

@@Ishaan_A apparently, you haven't watched the "pronoun" video. It's a shame that people only focused on that pronoun part and not the rest of the video which includes a lot of valid criticism about the game .
The funny part of the Alanah Pearce clip is that, in her response to "she should be fired for covering Starfield while being a Sony employee" she basically stated that the "Console War" doesn't exist inside the industry. She said that game dev spots in companies are so limited that people will go for them regardless of who its for or where they come from, and that, while working for Sony, she has a lot of coworkers who came from Microsoft or Nintendo, and none of them care about the "Console War" and they find it weird that so many fans have such a tribalism "us vs them" mentality that they do
Maybe they don't perceive or realize it but it definitely exists. Less so now but that's only because they each stopped making every other game a console exclusive. Which is what fueled most of the fan tribalism in the first place.
It only exists cause of the weirdo fans. That's the point. But I agree, exclusives were a mistake and now we're seeing them slowly ruin gaming.@@Ki_Adi_Mundi

In Ultima 2 (very old game now!), you could fly your ship into the sun if you entered its coordinates. It was game over if you did!
For the gas giant I'd say a good thing to show would be the sound of a can being crushed on a black screen, the black hole would just be a black screen, and a little animation from far-off where your ship is just a tiny speck just a bug zappering itself into the sun would be funny

Yes, NASA trains astronauts in giant swimming pools. Also because it sort of emulates the feeling of weightlessness. So it's also not ridiculous to assume that with future (lighter weight) spacesuits, swimming would be entirely possible...
Not to mention it would make sense to design the spacesuits with buoyancy as a feature on the off chance you did fall in water deep enough to swim in
@@timpointer6664the thing is space suits tend to have some natural bouency. Similar to a submarine. Air is less dense then water and part of a space suit design is often to fill the suit with air surrounding the person inside.
Its also why some car can "bounce" upward after crashing into water. And takes time to actually sink into the water, as the air leaves the entier of the car
Its also why early deep sea divers needed weights to keep them on the sea floor
Heck there's even an argument that the space suits in starfield actually make it harder to swim below the surface. Since they are effectively ultra light human shape balloons.
Something I wanted to add at the end but forgot is this isn't an excuse to not have under water swimming in game. Its a counter to anyone who says that it's unrealistic for a person in a space suit to float on the surface of the water.

To be fair with the whole running around the circumference of the planet thing, in No Man's Sky, one of the most freeing things you can experience as a new player is to just fly a starship around a planet without ever hitting a wall and do crazy maneuvers with it. You could do the same with ground vehicles too, and with the variance in terrain its actually pretty fun to just drive around with your truck and dig up stuff off the ground.

Who knew the hottest take would be "Starfield is polished"
The most offensive thing in starfield is the file size
I get the game is huge in size and scope, but frankly it isn’t a technological leap in terms of visuals and character animations compared to something like fallout 4 which is only 27 gigs and I’d argue starfield looks more like a remastered upscaled version of that game
Every time I go to a planet with basically nothing there I get reminded why the game is 101 gigs lmao
It’s likely due to the textures and meshes because of how many different kinds of planets you can go to. Even if they are all similar, the different color schemes and biomes requires them to all be separate textures with slight variations.
Tell that to Shadow of War
27 gig with old textures. Add only the HD texture pack its more than double. Your complaint is totally out of touch with reality. 100gigs is actually not much for a game this size and 4k textures. In 2 years with mods and DLCs it goes easily over 200gigs.
Memory is cheap what do you complain any way?
My brother in christ. No Man Sky (which has billions of planets) is 14GB on download.
The landing on gas giant thing always reminded me of that scene in Futurama where the professor says their spaceship is only build to handle atmosphere pressure of 0 and 1
Nah dude Asmon actually makes a good point. If the message on the mug was about adding flavor to the game, making it reflect in game ideologies, shouldn't there be bad guys with fucked up messages as well? The fact that the devs didn't think of that means it was meant as platforming a message, not adding flavor to the game.
Exactly. His gun analogy is a giant stretch to make himself seem correct.
@@PocketDelicious The gun analogy is also wrong by faction and makes me wonder how far he even got into the game. The fact everyone has guns is a gameplay thing, not what the characters think. The big majority of the start of the game you are in UC space, which if you paid attention, are a group that focuses on protecting it's citizens with law and order then allowing the citizens to defend and own guns themselves. The Freestar collective is the only real comparison that holds water, but he treated it like everyone in the game is some gun loving nut.
Good point
@@PocketDelicious Yep, it literally has zero relevance in this context, he really should’ve thought of something better
Could Bethesda have gotten away with fucked up messages?
I can't really come up with a fucked up message these days that I feel comfortable posting due to how seriously everyone takes things these days, let alone the censorship. Were i to try, others would either assume genuine messaging or otherwise hurl accusations or terrible insults such as edgelord, essentially hampering my ability to say some terrible stuff and forcing a more milquetoast version of a comical villain.
Take a message and try to make it such that it becomes comically evil, and people will believe it genuine or "they must believe it deep down or they'd never be able to say it" kinda shit.

Hard to make a natural barrier when you have a space ship and a jet pack.
I mean they could have the cities arm a “shield” that protects them from the elements. Like say you land on a hot planet, the city is fine but you step “out of bounds” you start taking hella damage and get a extreme temp alert. Imagine walking up to this slightly transparent wall and thinking “TF is this?”, looking past it, then seeing like powerful winds and rain blowing shit around, intense mirages from the heat cause the planet doesn’t have a strong atmosphere, or just straight up frozen trees and rocks.

@@wyattgeorge9696 he made this video during his playthrough of the game though. He liked it then and still likes it a bit, but now says it's a disappointment from Bethesda and could have been much better. The takes he talked about here weren't about actual criticisms about the game like th terrible map screen, bad UI design, horrible AI, bad texture work, loading screens, bad enemy designs, bad bounty system etc. Instead he talked about the idiotic takes people were having like 'you should be able to land on gas giants" and the pronouns rant (which honesty made him look like an idiot).
@@Ishaan_A apparently, you haven't watched the "pronoun" video. It's a shame that people only focused on that pronoun part and not the rest of the video which includes a lot of valid criticism about the game .
Nah not really
@@benedictjajo short video...which half of it was spent just insulting the devs, is that meant to make AZ look better?
The Asmon cameo was pure Gold! 😂
Yes!! 😅
Yeah, if Vaush is your fellow traveler then you're definitely in the wrong. Keep seething boy.
that entire voice over of gibbs and the crew going to tia dalma was gold man
Makes me wanna watch the films again
I gave starfield a fair chance… but goddamn I did not have fun. Played lies of P instead
The internet was a mistake.
I hope they make a mod that allows you to "land" on one of these planets and your ship just explodes forcing you to reload a previous save.
make it better. because you have been so dumb it's a hardcore death and you cant reload!
They should make it auto save once you load in then get destroyed, so it then reloads on a loop.
