Sony reversed their decision on the PSN linking with Helldivers 2. The Devs originally hated the idea, and apologized knowing they would have to go through with it, but executives are assholes and didn't care for the playerbase, like usual.

I received a free beta code for Tarkov in 2017 in a giveaway. I played the game a lot, really enjoyed the gameplay loop, and believed in this dev team. In 2020, I upgraded to EoD when it went on sale to support the developers of this game I loved so much and had played for free up until that point. I didn't have much time to play video games in 2019-2021 as I was in the final years of post-secondary and worked two jobs. The game would wipe around the time I was finished final exams, and I remember being so excited to experience all the new content. After I graduated, I took a step away from gaming to focus on my career, personal growth, and I got married. I played again this recent wipe, and it became blatantly clear how much this game disrespects the player's time, and how little the developers care about the actual gameplay experience. The terrible desync, the cheating problem, the broken audio, and the 10-20 minute loading times were enough to make me feel like the game was no longer worth my time. It used to be that to experience everything Tarkov has to offer, you needed to play the game as if it were a full time job. Now it's not only a time investment that is unreasonable to me, but the developers have also shown that they have no respect for the players themselves and expect them to pay even more money to fully experience an unfinished product. I regret ever giving these scummy assholes any of my money

This is a solid, Great Point. I played Deus Ex on PlayStation when I was a little kid. That game sucked SO bad, to my little kid mind. I didn't get what I was doing, or what TO do. I remember times when H&D2 was like 50$ and Sabre Squadron that not only added few QoL changes, was pack of 9 missions with quarter of assets being new. Base game had 16 missions. And that DLC was like 20$ at release...
The craziest part about the whole "is it DLC?" thing is that Tarkov is still a game in closed beta, therefore the product isnt even finished and so anything they put out until release is simply the base game...

Sales for other countries are still not available for HD2. Especially countries like Russia and the Philippines. I can still play in the Philippines no problem, but can't seem to find the buy button on the store page. I'm still not changing my review yet, we'll just wait and see.

BSG made a series of errors where they chose literally the worst option at every step. Not only did they piss off EOD owners by not giving them what was promised, they pissed off the whales who bought at the $250 price point by lowering the price and walking back the features included just days after the package was released. The genre needs more competition desperately
TBH, if you are willing to pay $150 for a game, the devs probably don't respect you in the slightest and just think you're going to whale for them no matter what. People need to stand up for themselves and stop paying way too much money.

The craziest thing about this is I've been playing the SPTarkov mod for a while because I got fed up with all the cheaters in the Live version, and now Battlestate want to sell me an official version of SPTarkov for $250? Naw, I think I'm good chief. I don't have friends that play Tarkov, so I don't need co-op. SPTarkov is all I need.

It's not enough to remain profitable, you have to show growth. There are only so many organic ways a company can grow and sooner or later you run into anti-consumer garbage like this. If somebody in the company tries to put their foot down and says no we can't do this and infinite growth is not feasible, that person will probably get replaced with somebody who promises infinite growth

For $250 the community should expect over 4 extra game modes (not including PvE), 100 maps per mode, and a large bundle of cosmetics and in-game currency... Instead they got 1 game mode and a 2-foot tall statue of the CEO's middle finger that always points towards them.
Which is also illegal in Europe, it was always like this but tax being added at checkout is illegal and the fact that they are comfortable with this is also a giant red flag even if i did buy EOD.
There is a small note on the website which says that in some countries the price varies because of the taxes. But I never saw it that the taxes aren't included in the price tag

It’s funny how this and Helldivers 2’s controversies are starkly different yet somewhat similar: You have an unwanted thing being pushed onto the playerbase out of nowhere, you have documentation being changed during the controversy to save face, and you have groups of gamers from different backgrounds coming together to stick it to an utterly greedy and pathetic idea. And the fact this happened twice in a few weeks is baffling. Of course, though, at least Arrowhead for the most part had the decency to stand with their players and make it vocal this wasn’t their decision (props to the CEO for being genuinely good about taking responsibility for his mistakes and standing by the players). The Tarkov devs just kept digging themselves further and further into the hole until literally nobody stood by them. Edit: I’m aware of the fact Arrowhead knew 6 months in advance that PSN was going to be in the game. I’m aware on the steam page in that small yellow section it says PSN is part of it. That doesn’t change the fact that for three months it was optional and that Sony’s own documentation stated PSN was optional and not required for the game, only for them to suddenly up and change it while this was happening. That’s why I and many others were frustrated by it.

Holy crap dude... I bought my PlayStation 4 for $249.99... The fact that they even achieved this is nuts. Did somebody, _anybody_ not look at the price tag and think, "hey maybe this is a little ludicrous?" Forget BSG caring about their players, how could they possibly have expected that this wouldn't blow up catastrophically in their faces?? It boggles the mind that anybody thought selling a single game at around the same price as a game _console_ was a good idea in any way, shape, or form.
To be entirely honest, If BSG had released the Unheard edition with just additional convenience items and cosmetics, no one would've cared. Hell, it probably would've even sold decently, because the EFT community is ridiculous. To get an idea how absurd the EFT community is, consider myself. I literally bought myself both an EoD edition, plus an additional standard edition, because I love the game that much, and wanted the option to play the game "vanilla" again, without all the additional EoD benefits. The problem is that the Tarkov devs were so greedy that they wanted to find a way to force all (or a majority) of EoD players to pay for an upgrade, instead of just putting out the Upgrade and accepting that only a portion would be interested. Their solution was blatant in raid advantages, locking core features behind an additional paywall, and ignoring the benefits they sold their most rabid supporters.
@@CatacombD I mean, I guess that makes sense. I don't play EFT myself, but I'm a pretty huge Melty Blood and Under Night In-Birth fan (somewhat niche anime fighting games made by French Bread). I bought both versions of Under Night In-Birth 1 and Melty Blood: Type Lumina twice (on Switch and PS4) for similar reasons as you: to get a fresh experience without losing my win/loss records, replays, and story playthroughs. But the difference with those games is: 1 - that they're cheaper, and 2 - they didn't pull the rug out from under us. When going from one release of UNI to another, they gave it to the players for free if they already owned the previous version. I feel really bad for the EFT community; I don't play tactical shooters myself, but the game looked really fun if you like the genre, and I can't imagine how it feels to have your $150 made effectively useless because BSG didn't follow through on their promises.

Most likely not, because EFT is early-access and "things are subject to change". It's the same exact reason a company can scam hundreds of thousands of dollars on a Kickstarter and never provide a functional product, even if that empty promise is what initially got people to give them money,.

This was a *promise* in the sale of their final DLC product to entice others to buy it, which they are now removing access to. *That* is false advertisement

Early-access means an unfinished product, unfinished product means anything and everything is apt to change. They could change EFT to a tabletop game and no legal recourse could be taken. I'm not at all saying this justifies what BSG has done. But it IS legal. Somewhere is a single line of text nobody read in some license agreement that makes it airtight. You agreed to it when you made an account and gave them money.
They are basically saying that if you wanna play the full game with your buddies - just pirate it. I'm a game developer myself, and seeing stuff like that just boggles my mind. I think that it all happened because the pay for servers monthly, but only get money from the players once - during the initial purchase, making the game non-profitable from the start. They should have made it subscription based like WoW or find some other way that's not blatantly scamming their supporters.

I bought EOD a few years ago because I truly thought Tarkov had the potential to be one of the greatest games. No game has been able to make me shit my pants and also scream in excitement the same way. But they’ve continued to make poor decisions to drive players away. The games been in beta for what feels like an eternity with a lot of the same issues it’s had for years.
@@agentnukaz1715 because no refund plus no market accountability. On steam, if your game is a Beta/Early Access you can't release DLC, meaning you'd have to finish the game first before charging for extra.
@@agentnukaz1715 because Steam has an increased "Quality Controll" regulation that, IF it is challenged, the game is not only removed, but ALL the money people spent on it is refunded. there is a reason why Pre-Ordering on Steam doesnt instantly pay out to developers. it takes a week outside of Pre-Orders for that money to be give to the developers, and in Pre-Purchase orders, it is given a month after the game releases, to safeguard the money in case the game is nothing more than a ling winded scam. going outside of steam is a way to bypass that.
The moment I went to buy the game and saw that your inventory space was connected to how much money I was willing to spend I knew INSTANTLY....Do NOT support these devs...That's greed... So... Wow... I'm so surprised...
That should've been the first red flag to anyone, who isn't an idiot. Most gamers are. Then some of them defend this bullshit, so they don't feel like an idiot, because they went and bought it.
These studios really need to stop uniting us against them like this. You can release a bad feature and win against 20% of the player base, but when you've got 80% of your customers riled up and angry, you're going to lose. To any observer, this update was very clearly going to be extremely unpopular, yet they were so out of touch with the player base that they didn't see this coming.
Of all the games they tried to pull this on, it was absolutely soul-wrenching that it would happen to HD2. It's like the only game released this year from a major studio that has been respecting their players and giving a genuinely great game. It's the only game I've seen that actually makes good use of the live service model where it can actually justify BEING live service. Sony was fine with forcing that game into making a section of the game's playerbase unable to play it at all, and scam them out of their money. They'd have turned it into the most greedy game ever created overnight.
Imagine if Sony had published Baldur's Gate 3. They'd have made it an always-online PSN-login required game and locked each act behind a new $25 season pass.
Okay, here is the part I don't get. The studio behind helldivers doesn't belong to Sony and they are not famous for making their games always online (or forcing studios to do so). Many indie / double a studios might reach out to major companies to publish their games, as conglomerates like Sony, Bandai Namco, and Zenimax-Activison-Microsoft can massively increase the sales and marketing of the game. This allows indie games that might only have an audience of tens of thousands if self published to hundreds of thousands with much wider distribution across multiple different platforms and countries. The catch of all this is that the publisher has a say in the some aspects of the game, be it censorship, console exclusivity, or signing up for third-party accounts under their domain. In worse case scenarios (such as Bloodborne) publishers can completely shelve games even if the developer wishes to continue working on it or update it to current gen systems. In terms of why Sony did this to HD2, it’s likely to boost a portfolio for PSN users and take advantage of an ultra popular game by saying “see that, that was US”. I’m happy it’s been rolled back, but I can’t help but worry something even worse is on the horizon. Guess we’ll have to see. TLDR; publishers freaking suck

When they tried to justify the jump of games from $60 to $70 by saying that games haven't had a price jump for years, I laughed so hard. Games are more expensive then EVER. You have to buy each season pass and wait for like 1-2 years for them to even release all the promised features and fix the bugs. And they'll sell you $40 character skins while they're selling the $10-$20 season passes, and the special edition that costs $30 extra. And it's not like the $10 price hike even improved the industry, it's actually gotten WORSE since games were only $60. Anyone who tried to justify $70 games was either paid off or hasn't played a video game in at least a decade.
I haven’t bought a single game in the last year that was full price, if they were, I bought them at a solid discount. Indie games are absolutely awesome, and are complete steals.
Literally don’t have to buy the season pass or the costumes. 100% right about the bugs and games being unfinished. Games are also more expensive than ever to produce (but maybe AI can take it down again without damaging graphical quality.) Ultimately we are here because gamers can’t control themselves and wait until a game is actually ready, and they don’t refuse to buy over priced skins. Buy indie games.

Sony reversed their decision on the PSN linking with Helldivers 2. The Devs originally hated the idea, and apologized knowing they would have to go through with it, but executives are assholes and didn't care for the playerbase, like usual.

I received a free beta code for Tarkov in 2017 in a giveaway. I played the game a lot, really enjoyed the gameplay loop, and believed in this dev team. In 2020, I upgraded to EoD when it went on sale to support the developers of this game I loved so much and had played for free up until that point. I didn't have much time to play video games in 2019-2021 as I was in the final years of post-secondary and worked two jobs. The game would wipe around the time I was finished final exams, and I remember being so excited to experience all the new content. After I graduated, I took a step away from gaming to focus on my career, personal growth, and I got married. I played again this recent wipe, and it became blatantly clear how much this game disrespects the player's time, and how little the developers care about the actual gameplay experience. The terrible desync, the cheating problem, the broken audio, and the 10-20 minute loading times were enough to make me feel like the game was no longer worth my time. It used to be that to experience everything Tarkov has to offer, you needed to play the game as if it were a full time job. Now it's not only a time investment that is unreasonable to me, but the developers have also shown that they have no respect for the players themselves and expect them to pay even more money to fully experience an unfinished product. I regret ever giving these scummy assholes any of my money

BSG made a series of errors where they chose literally the worst option at every step. Not only did they piss off EOD owners by not giving them what was promised, they pissed off the whales who bought at the $250 price point by lowering the price and walking back the features included just days after the package was released. The genre needs more competition desperately
TBH, if you are willing to pay $150 for a game, the devs probably don't respect you in the slightest and just think you're going to whale for them no matter what. People need to stand up for themselves and stop paying way too much money.

Well to be fair the gamers did roll over and take it for years, I've honestly almost pretty much stopped playing video games all together in the past 5 years, finally people are starting to wake up after years of this crap, the cunsumers are jist as much to blame as the greedy suites.

The fact I gave BSG over $100 for the EOD edition, which they stated was supposed to get every future DLC, ends up that they tried to pull this, if I didn't already quit because of being unable to keep up with wipes and also because of the cheaters, I'd be real upset right now.
Helldivers 2 went from Overwhelmingly Negative to Mixed in less than a day after Sony retracted their stupid PSN requirement. I've never seen something like that before.

Here in Germany it would cost around 300€ because in the 250€ price tag the taxes aren't even included and not even the PayPal fees

There is a small note on the website which says that in some countries the price varies because of the taxes. But I never saw it that the taxes aren't included in the price tag

It’s funny how this and Helldivers 2’s controversies are starkly different yet somewhat similar:
You have an unwanted thing being pushed onto the playerbase out of nowhere, you have documentation being changed during the controversy to save face, and you have groups of gamers from different backgrounds coming together to stick it to an utterly greedy and pathetic idea. And the fact this happened twice in a few weeks is baffling.
Of course, though, at least Arrowhead for the most part had the decency to stand with their players and make it vocal this wasn’t their decision (props to the CEO for being genuinely good about taking responsibility for his mistakes and standing by the players). The Tarkov devs just kept digging themselves further and further into the hole until literally nobody stood by them.
Edit: I’m aware of the fact Arrowhead knew 6 months in advance that PSN was going to be in the game. I’m aware on the steam page in that small yellow section it says PSN is part of it. That doesn’t change the fact that for three months it was optional and that Sony’s own documentation stated PSN was optional and not required for the game, only for them to suddenly up and change it while this was happening. That’s why I and many others were frustrated by it.
Except the "pushed out of nowhere" bit is bs because arrowhead stated from the start that account linking would eventually be required in the future, but most people can't be bothered reading lmfao.

When people are already spending $150 on the game, asking for another $100 isn't that much more outrageous.
To be entirely honest, If BSG had released the Unheard edition with just additional convenience items and cosmetics, no one would've cared. Hell, it probably would've even sold decently, because the EFT community is ridiculous. To get an idea how absurd the EFT community is, consider myself. I literally bought myself both an EoD edition, plus an additional standard edition, because I love the game that much, and wanted the option to play the game "vanilla" again, without all the additional EoD benefits.
The problem is that the Tarkov devs were so greedy that they wanted to find a way to force all (or a majority) of EoD players to pay for an upgrade, instead of just putting out the Upgrade and accepting that only a portion would be interested. Their solution was blatant in raid advantages, locking core features behind an additional paywall, and ignoring the benefits they sold their most rabid supporters.
@@CatacombD I mean, I guess that makes sense. I don't play EFT myself, but I'm a pretty huge Melty Blood and Under Night In-Birth fan (somewhat niche anime fighting games made by French Bread). I bought both versions of Under Night In-Birth 1 and Melty Blood: Type Lumina twice (on Switch and PS4) for similar reasons as you: to get a fresh experience without losing my win/loss records, replays, and story playthroughs.
But the difference with those games is: 1 - that they're cheaper, and 2 - they didn't pull the rug out from under us. When going from one release of UNI to another, they gave it to the players for free if they already owned the previous version. I feel really bad for the EFT community; I don't play tactical shooters myself, but the game looked really fun if you like the genre, and I can't imagine how it feels to have your $150 made effectively useless because BSG didn't follow through on their promises.

I'm not at all saying this justifies what BSG has done. But it IS legal. Somewhere is a single line of text nobody read in some license agreement that makes it airtight. You agreed to it when you made an account and gave them money.
They are basically saying that if you wanna play the full game with your buddies - just pirate it. I'm a game developer myself, and seeing stuff like that just boggles my mind.
I think that it all happened because the pay for servers monthly, but only get money from the players once - during the initial purchase, making the game non-profitable from the start. They should have made it subscription based like WoW or find some other way that's not blatantly scamming their supporters.

I bought EOD a few years ago because I truly thought Tarkov had the potential to be one of the greatest games. No game has been able to make me shit my pants and also scream in excitement the same way. But they’ve continued to make poor decisions to drive players away. The games been in beta for what feels like an eternity with a lot of the same issues it’s had for years.
The fact that EFT was never on Steam was the initial reason why I never bought it. I knew this would be a scam.

These studios really need to stop uniting us against them like this. You can release a bad feature and win against 20% of the player base, but when you've got 80% of your customers riled up and angry, you're going to lose. To any observer, this update was very clearly going to be extremely unpopular, yet they were so out of touch with the player base that they didn't see this coming.
Of all the games they tried to pull this on, it was absolutely soul-wrenching that it would happen to HD2. It's like the only game released this year from a major studio that has been respecting their players and giving a genuinely great game. It's the only game I've seen that actually makes good use of the live service model where it can actually justify BEING live service. Sony was fine with forcing that game into making a section of the game's playerbase unable to play it at all, and scam them out of their money. They'd have turned it into the most greedy game ever created overnight.
Imagine if Sony had published Baldur's Gate 3. They'd have made it an always-online PSN-login required game and locked each act behind a new $25 season pass.

Many indie / double a studios might reach out to major companies to publish their games, as conglomerates like Sony, Bandai Namco, and Zenimax-Activison-Microsoft can massively increase the sales and marketing of the game. This allows indie games that might only have an audience of tens of thousands if self published to hundreds of thousands with much wider distribution across multiple different platforms and countries. The catch of all this is that the publisher has a say in the some aspects of the game, be it censorship, console exclusivity, or signing up for third-party accounts under their domain. In worse case scenarios (such as Bloodborne) publishers can completely shelve games even if the developer wishes to continue working on it or update it to current gen systems.
In terms of why Sony did this to HD2, it’s likely to boost a portfolio for PSN users and take advantage of an ultra popular game by saying “see that, that was US”. I’m happy it’s been rolled back, but I can’t help but worry something even worse is on the horizon. Guess we’ll have to see.

When they tried to justify the jump of games from $60 to $70 by saying that games haven't had a price jump for years, I laughed so hard. Games are more expensive then EVER. You have to buy each season pass and wait for like 1-2 years for them to even release all the promised features and fix the bugs. And they'll sell you $40 character skins while they're selling the $10-$20 season passes, and the special edition that costs $30 extra. And it's not like the $10 price hike even improved the industry, it's actually gotten WORSE since games were only $60. Anyone who tried to justify $70 games was either paid off or hasn't played a video game in at least a decade.
Especially with the jump in price, without even receiving a physical copy (digital only game purchases annoy the hell out of me)
I haven’t bought a single game in the last year that was full price, if they were, I bought them at a solid discount. Indie games are absolutely awesome, and are complete steals.
This is why I love Hellogames and NMS, they keep updating FOR FREE.

100% right about the bugs and games being unfinished. Games are also more expensive than ever to produce (but maybe AI can take it down again without damaging graphical quality.)
Ultimately we are here because gamers can’t control themselves and wait until a game is actually ready, and they don’t refuse to buy over priced skins. Buy indie games.
