    I had a loon parent start circling when I was distance swimming and inadvertently swam too close. A bit terrifying to be honest. I changed directions quickly !! Good parents !

    The fact that those birds move so damn fast on water is scary 😂

    The loon parents know danger when they see it. Raccoons are big nest raiders and will eat the eggs and young of any bird species that they come across. Also, notice that there was only one young loon they were protecting. Muskies and pike pick-off a lot of young waterfowl when they are swimming, that's why loon chicks sometimes ride on the back of their parents when in the water.

    That is crazy. I have never seen anything like that before. Kudos for getting that on film.

    That was a young raccoon, he was just crossing the water but kudos to the loon parents for being vigilant even though they scared that racoon into high speed.

      Raccoons may be the reason this was their last chick. Raccoons can be nasty. They steal eggs and kill birds all the time--even big birds like ducks & chickens.

    Pretty cool that, at first when the raccoon is swimming, the water appears like a shape of a large white bird.

      I'm sure they didn't think it was just crossing

      Or, would you let a predator near your kid even though he didn't look like thats where he was headed

    • @corneliussnow3491
      @corneliussnow3491 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's why they didn't attack. If they thought he was after their chick they would use their bills, which are like daggers, and probably poked more holes in the raccoon than swiss cheese. Lol but instead the Daddy loon just circled him a few times while making "stay away from my baby or I'll mess you up homie!" Calls. Raccoons are know for taking eggs and even eating young chicks, especially up north, Coons are tough little critters. And Loons are surprisingly deadly and territorial for such beautiful birds. I think they were being fair, just warning the coon but not attacking him and ultimately letting him pass. Just made sure he didn't dilly dally. 😂

    Why does the loon keep sticking its head in the water?

      @Spirituality Sal Styles guy cought a 54 inch musky up LOTW when he cleaned it out it had a loon in it and a 28 inch pike. When we musky fish in the fall we use suckers 25 inches or bigger. If you don't think a musky or norther can't eat a loon... You are a loon

      @Cassandra cc519 Raccoons can swim underwater for awhile. Probably checking.
