    Loons are one of my favorite birds, I miss their eerily echoing haunting cries over the lake that I remember from my childhood up north. Every evening we would hear them as the sun was setting. I would always stop and just listen.

      @@oishidas443 it depends if there's any in your area. The fun thing is with you tube you can find all sorts of animal sounds to hear what they sound like.
      Check lyre bird, it can mimic many sounds, very interesting.

    I have heard their calls. One time a nesting pair were in a irrigation reservoir. When it was drained the adults had to leave but the chick could not fly. I found her and rescued her. It was a once in a lifetime event.

      Thanks for the kind words, Mira, and glad you enjoyed the footage. Yes, I try to keep my videos as natural as possible in terms of background sound. Only time I will add music is if the wind noise if horrendous, as it isn't so fun to listen to that howling. Thanks for watching :)

      Great news on your Goose visitors! Hopefully they nest and give your some little fluff balls to watch and enjoy. I'd say we are still a few weeks away from our loons returning. I'll know when I get the boat in the water in about a month's time. Looking forward to that! It's been a long winter. Folks were still ice fishing only last week on lakes just north of me! Take good care :)

    I've been seeing loon-looking birds fly over my pond but they honk like geese when they fly. Are they loons or are they geese? Geese wouldn't dare to land on the water, though, because the loons will beat the snot out of them! lol Also, the other night, the loons on my pond were making a totally panicked sound and then I heard something walking out of the water--pitch black dark, though, so I couldn't see. Do you think it was a moose? Lynx? Bear? After the thing walked out of the water, the loons calmed down and were silent.

    • @JustinHoffman
      @JustinHoffman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tough to say what you're seeing without more of a description. Geese are definitely vocal when flying.
      As for the night visitor, could very well have been any of those animals. Anything out of the ordinary, or what a loon might perceive as danger, and this birds will make a fuss. Sounds like a great pond you have!

      @@JustinHoffman Thank you so much for answering. I was wondering if loons made any calls when they fly but I guess without a better pair of binoculars, I'm not going to know. lol And yes, that night visitor sure did wake them all up! I've rarely heard them get so upset. I felt bad because I know they might have babies in the nests this time of year but I hope the big animal was just getting a drink and not hunting for loon eggs. Again, thank you for your input. I appreciate it. And yes, my pond is amazing, thank you! (Rural Maine).
