I got waitlisted to Cal and Davis for nutritional sciences as a Freshman for Fall 2018! How do they compare, if you know? I’ve done quite a bit of research and also found that Davis’ nutrition program was ranked #1 in 2017..... I know that classes will be harder at Cal, so maybe I should go to Davis for undergrad instead?
hey!! mm well i think cal in general is gonna be a lot harder and rigorous than davis, but other than that im not too sure! davis does have an advantage i think since we are an ag school. when choosing a school you should also take into account of the environment, student body, student life, weather and just how the school is like after visiting. there is SO much more to a school than academics! best of luck :)
Could you elaborate more on some tips and advice on how to get off of the waitlist at Davis? I am still deciding between a few other schools but would appreciate some advice or just hearing more about your experience with being waitlisted by Davis. I will be visiting Davis along with some other schools this weekend. Should I go to the admissions office and try to convince someone to get me off of the waitlist? Idk lol! Anything helps rn!
I got into NYU as well, and my parents won’t let me go because it is SO EXPENSIVE. I’m so excited to go to UC Davis though, it seems like an amazing school
Nikki Rikki ah girl I feel you, and davis is def welcoming but make sure to check out the campus and the vibe and see if YOU enjoy it and can see yourself thriving here. Everyone is different and prefers a specific college environment :)
Omg I feel so conflicted, I was born and raised in SoCal and I’m so used to the LA life and a lot of my peers kind of want to leave SoCal because it’s kind of like the only time in our lives where we get to “explore” before settling, but I’m not sure if it’s right for me. I also want to major in clinical nutrition I really wanted to go to a UC but only Davis and Berkeley are accredited by ACEND, and they’re both really far. I feel like not having access to city events and stuff would make me really home sick...Pepperdine and cal state poly Pomona would also be options but Pepperdine is SUPER EXPENSIVE.. I’m so sorry for this rant but any advice would help 😭
Heyy!! Thanks for your comment, and don't need to apologize at all! So, Davis and Cal aren't the only schools for nutrition! The school thats best for you isn't solely based off the acclaimed major programs but also things like environment, weather, distance, cost...I don't know much about ACEND, but the mistake that I made was that I chose Davis and the colleges that I applied to based on the prestige in my major.. I don't know what to say exactly, but you know yourself the best and I highly recommend that you visit the school!! ALSO I don't know about you but my friends and I changed our majors helllaaaa when we came to college, so you might too! So, don't choose a college based off the major, but maybe the academic intensity and environment (students, weather, city or not). Hope this helps girl, good luck!
Tiffany Yang Thank you thank you thank you so much! I appreciate you taking time out of your day to give a lost and completely conflicted girl, some advice 💗💗
awww you're so very welcome girl!! lmk if you have any other questions, i've totally been in your shoes (and tbh i still have no idea wtf im doing LOL)
So glad I came across your channel & this video! I’m considering applying to Davis and I’m super excited. It’s very far from where I live but something new would be great. Only thing I’m scared of is making friends bcus I’m a hella shy person lol 🙃💛
aww hey helen! thank you! im so glad you enjoy the video/channel :) and don't worry about making friends, you'll almost inevitably make friends because you'll be in the dorms and surrounded by ppl who want to make friends just as much as you want to :) best of luck, and have fun !
I just accepted my admissions to Davis! And I've actually been watching your videos & loving them! i hope we can actually meet bc you seem super cool and laid back!
Megumi Swarthout hey! You can swipe into any of the dining commons although I only go to tercero mostly cuz I live there so it’s the most convenient but if I visit my friends I eat at there dining common :)
Hey Tiffany, I was wondering what specifically you said in your email to the counselors and on the phone call as well? Are you essentially just restating what you said in the 200 word waitlist statement they make you fill out to enter the waitlist?
heyy! sorry for the late reply but i was summarizing why i wanted to go to davis and just kinda annoyed them to show how much i wanted the admission haha xD
Hi, I came across your video and I got put on the paid wait list as well when I applied for housing I chose a double room as my preference.Does being on the paid waitlist for student housing affect the type of room you get?
hmm, i'm not sure if i paid to be on the waitlist but i remember that i didn't get guaranteed housing and was on the waitlist for it lol but i got a triple in the end. my other friend asked for a double and she ended up getting a single. honestly i have no idea what the heck student housing is doing haha, it's the luck of the draw i guess. but you can call student housing to ask! :)
Tiffany Yang Cause the only reason I’m in the paid waitlist was because my payment when I applied for housing was late but I will call the office Thank you so much 😊
like how do you adapt to the quarter system, how to adapt to the new school, and how to make friends as a transfer. I just graduated high school in June and seeing all my friends having fun all over the nation while I'm stuck in community college is depressing af
aww, there are plenty of pros to community college, like you have more freedom and time for work and such. a lot of people have told me to just take it slow your first quarter and take 12 units (minimum) just to get the feel of the university life. the quarter system is pretty fast so you don't want to take too much academic load. making friends is easy since at the beginnign of the school year there is a club fair, and there are ways to get to know people by just being involved in the school (working, internships, attending lectures/office hours, engaging with professors and classmates). it all really takes time. i hear some upper classmen don't even have their shits together, so don't stress, just have fun! :) hope this helps man
you only get to choose whether you want a triple, double or a single but other than that they place you in either cuarto, segundo or tercero. all three of them have their own pros and cons..personally, i was waitlisted (because i was waitlisted for davis) and i ended up in a triple in tercero..my other friend just randomly got a single even though she didn't request it..it's really hard to say what their system is honestly :/
Hey! I just found the email address to the college counselor in my area, who happened to be Melanie David and asked about my waitlist situation and a phone call.
i have to pick a GE for this year as an incoming freshman. Do you have any recommendations? Something easy and fun? LOL I'm an ecological management and restoration major if that helps.. haha tysm!!
heey!! yes i recommend NUT10 (general nutrition) and PSC 1 (intro to psych) (with Priscilla San Souci). these are both easy classes and super practical as well :)
it's pretty low. all you have to do is go to lecture and take notes. the exams basically replicate the practice exams they give you and they give out extra credit too!! def recommend this class :) and honestly with me, since i found nutrition so applicable and interesting, it was easy to retain the material!
hey! i took the ACT and I got a 31 I think. I'm sure you heard of this, but it REALLY depends on the school (and their values) along with your extracurriculars and essays. :)
Thank you! I'm taking my SAT in two weeks and I'm super stressed about it xD Davis is my dream college and was curious how strong they evaluate those scores.
hey! don't worry! :) just do your best and remember that the college application process can be so random sometimes (like depending on the mood of the admissions officers that day lol) it can kinda suck but that's just the roll of the dice.
hey jamie!! thanks for your question and so glad you found the video helpful :) This is a tough question to answer since Davis has so many different kinds of students, but honestly it depends who you hang around and where you live. For example, when choosing housing, there are honors dorms and major-specific dorms which could make your academic life more competitive. I don't personally find too much stress and pressure, since I haven't taken too many difficult classes. We also have a good amount of international students who actually make classes harder (due to the class curve), but in general, not too much stress. Side note: it's honestly how YOU personally deal with stress, because ultimately you have control of yourself, even though you don't have control over situations. Hope this helped!
Heyy tiffany!! So on top of what I mentioned in the vid, I emailed the counselor on why I wanted to go to ucd, why it was truly fit for me, and asked about how the waitlist situation works. Then, I left her my number to ask a phone call. Ultimately, it's so competitive and quite frankly I think it's kinda random, so don't worry if the results don't turn out to be in your favor. Everything will work out in the end, I promise. :)
hey!! don't apologize haha :) temp cards are cards you get at the kiosk (located outside the service desk) just in case you get locked out of your dorm, you can go there to get a temporary card. i believe you get 5 for the whole school year and then you pay 15 bucks, so make sure to not lock yourself outside your dorm! another reason why i don't recommend a single, because you are responsible for your dorm haha. sorry for not making that clear in the vid!
Tiffany Yang omg thanks ur vidéo is so helpful!! I’m a junior rn and I’m planning on applying and hopefully getting into Davis cuz I’m from the Bay Area SO THIS video was amazing :))
mm i feel you. it depends: introverted people might have a harder time making friends when given a single, so a double/triple might benefit them in making friends.
UC Davis is a top school for me, this helped a lot ! love your videos
aw i'm glad i helped :) and best of luck!!

My husband is always talking about how overpriced the food is at his college!! Luckily he hardly ever has to eat there, but still!!!
Cara Jane yes omg there are some kitchens for freshmen but tbh I’m so lazy to use it haha 😂

hows the workload for the nutrition class?

What did you get on your SAT? Like is it super important that you get a good score?

Are students at Davis competitive or is it more of a friendly atmosphere?
