    Bah to all of the haters. Thanks for the nice review. I didn't give this car a look until recently and now I'm sold. I was leaning toward a GTI or Focus ST... I want a turbo-4, manual trans, 5-door with no frills. I was thinking FWD but then discovered this little 4x4. Had no idea Jeep offered this model so stripped down yet still with 4x4. The reviewer is right-on, this is what Jeep is all about. You can bash the platform all you want. I'm not taking it off-road, I live near Chicago, so I like this platform to cope with our weather and poor road conditions. I've had to replace struts and ball-joints multiple times on my sedan due to the roads here. So while not a real off-road beast, I trust this vehicle will take whatever Chicago can dish out. I'm just going to add A/C and maybe the upgraded stereo with nav but I'm on the fence on that as the extra 2 speakers are the main draw, not the nav, I can of course use my phone for nav. Thanks again for the nice review and again bah to all of the haters.

      itsjjp I like this car myself, actually. I currently drive an 07 Scion tC and have been looking into something bigger that has a manual transmission but doesn't look too flashy or have a death wobble as I've seen/heard of Wranglers. I love the look of Wranglers but these seem to have had better reviews in terms of reliability. I could care less what these haters say on here to be honest.

      I’m moving from a 2016 focus st to this (potentially). I love my focus. I’ve driven about 120000k (got it at 26k). I’ve had no issues other than a factory recall for a purge valve (gas tank sucked in and some sputtering starts after a refill). It’s a great car with a lot of room for what it is. Wonderful drive. But I need something with a bit more room as I plan to start a family. If you go focus st I’m sure you’ll love it, you’ll manage with the room you get if you don’t plan to use it for family vacations - it was fine for my fiancé and I but anymore and it’ll be filled to the brim. Good luck, can’t wait to test drive these in a manual 😈

    Amazing amount of comments about reliability from people who don't own a Renegade and just regurgitate what they read somewhere. I own one. It's has the 1.4 turbo and the six speed stick. I've owned it 1 1/2 years and it has about 25,000 miles. My total repair costs for that time frame is $0.00. The people who claim the Renegade is unreliable are incorrect. Before I bought the Renegade, I had a discussion with a serve mechanic at the local Jeep dealer. They had one getting an oil change, so I asked him what they were finding out about the Renegade. He said "Nothing really. They've been out for over a year, and other than oil changes, we never see them". I concur.

    • @markshuell4844
      @markshuell4844 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Dvorak Since my first post the Renegade I’d up to 58,000 miles. I have replaced the PCV valve. Roughly an $8 part. As to your question of how far will it go? Hard to say. It uses 0 oil between 5000 mile oil and filter changes. I’m a maintenance freak. I change the engine oil too often. I change the transmission oil too often. I change the spark plugs too often. Maintenance is cheap, parts are expensive. 200,000 miles minimum, 300,000 miles likely. Best Wishes, Mark Shuell.

    Mine's a 2017 fwd, 6-spd turbo. This makes for the lightest, fastest combo on a Renegade. I beat the living tar out of it every day. It has 20K troublefree miles & is shockingly quick w/robust passing power only a downshift away. Had her up to 130mph on open hwy in WY & handling was stable. Plus, it's roomy, yet ez to park & I get 27mpg mixed on 89 octane. Best of all, only paid $15k brand new & that included roof rails, alloy wheels, cruise, ac, backup cam & upgraded stereo. Dealer incentives make this the best deal on the subcompact SUV market right now. By far the most fun to drive new vehicle you can get for $15k. Light years ahead of old Patriot & Compass.

      @ppopovich2847 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then you're with me cuz it is 4-door hatchback & now that it's over a year old w/26K troublefree miles, I'd say it's pretty well used.

    • @ppopovich2847
      @ppopovich2847 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Update: Now at 36K totally trouble-free miles. Only dealer visit was for a free car wash. Change my own oil every 5K. She still runs like a whirling dervish! Plus, my 4x2 has proven to be perfectly capable in the winter.

    • @ppopovich2847
      @ppopovich2847 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Another update: After 5 years & 89K miles of ownership my Renegade continues to purr like a feisty cat. Am still on my orig clutch, orig brakes & 2nd set of tires. Have done about 15 oil changes. Only unscheduled repair was a relatively simple & cheap replacement set of front stabilizer links, which got rattly. Otherwise, I just gas it up & go have a blast every time I drive it. The manual trans & turbo engine make for a kickazz combo! Been just as reliable as my Toyota vehicles so far.

    I drove two Jeep renegade’s with both of the different engine options one with a manual and one with automatic yesterday and there definitely is a huge discrepancy in fuel economy between the two engines. The 1.4 L turbo was averaging like 35 mpg over it’s 50,000 miles and the 2.4 L was barely getting 28 lol.

    I come to this vid because I've gotten a lot of maintenance experience with the Renegade.
    I've driven both the manual and automatic.
    I've also seen the rare, no AC, Manual version.
    If you want a good compact car. Get one, you'll not really regret it. I've not seen much in way or poor reliability. These things are technically a Fiat, so is the Wrangler, Gladiator and basically the whole Jeep line up these days. Though don't let that deter you, these things are pretty tough when they want to be.
    You can technically apply any Fiat related tune to the Renegade, just like the Dart/200 and Wrangler. They aren't a slouch when given the beans and they don't slouch when you put a little bit of bolt on fun parts and a reflash.
    I know someone who tuned his, that thing is like a bigger Abarth with off-road ability. He goes on the trails often and it's a auto.
    If you buy the two wheel version, understand that it's not going to be able to off-road like the 4x4. I've seen many people make that mistake and end up stuck thinking the Jeep logo gives them that ability. If you plan on just driving this thing to work and back with no real care in the world. Two wheel is fine and you'll have no issue. If you want to hit trails, I definitely suggest going with meatier tread, a tune and a lift kit. A trail hawk would be the best one out of the lineup.

    Stripped out renegade manual is more legit than a hardtop auto wrangler with 4 doors. It's slightly more honest about what it is.

    you should park this car at a house's front door see if it will roll back and kill someone.
    you should do this test on all Chrysler vehicles.
    I KNOW IT'S A MANUAL!!!

    • @eafan48
      @eafan48 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Even if it wasn't if the stupid owners would put them in park they wouldn't roll

    • @eafan48
      @eafan48 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, the owners just don't know how to work the shifter, Chrysler is recalling them to dumb them down and make them idiot proof.

    Hey Kyle, why are you doing quick gear shift? Are you a rally racer. Half second, one gear shift for you. Is a very quick, and very bad for gear shifter. :)

    I love the Fiat models right now, the 500 iterations, this Renegade is pretty cool too, like a mini Cherokee! :p
    Wonder how reliable these cars are tho, I have no idea. Found a 500 Abarth from 2009 I think, with very low milage for a decent price, wish I could afford it! :D

      The trailhawk is the only real off road equipped model. The other ones are just offered in 4WD which would be good for traction, winter driving, etc.
