I fell in love with Julie Christie! The movie was so beautifully written and filmed! A masterpiece! ❤ and the most beautiful and memorable music and direction by David Lean.
As the former editor of British Movietone News, after having to put together a newsreel for the cinemas, sometimes in a couple of hours, making feature films was a walk in the park for David Lean. The continuity, screenplay and editing was just second nature to to him and existed in his head before the cameras even rolled. Maurice Jarre wrote a beautiful score, but it was David who put it all together and made it work.
I met Omar when I was 18. Saw him go into a restaurant in Hollywood. Made my parents wait 2 hrs for him to come out. In our car. I went up to him n asked if I could tke his pix. He was. V kind n said yes. Still have it. Such a thrill to meet him. 🤗
You are so lucky to have met Omar. He was my mum's favourite and after watching the movie I also started loving him. Rest in eternal peace you sweet man.❤
The cold harshness of Winter lasts long, but the warmth of Love lasts Forever. This film is nothing short of brilliant. Much applause to director David Lean, a stellar cast and crew. Many thanks for posting this!
@@walterfechter8080 wow, What is that great about this movie? I saw it when I was in high school n later time. I still didnt get the story other than cinematic view.
My mother took my sister and me to see this in a cinema in Scotland when we were holidaying there sometime in the late sixties. It has stayed with me forever as a hauntingly beautiful and desperately sad film. The music and images still move me to tears.
My mother took me to see it at the cinema. It made a very deep impression on this young boy. Grew up to serve against the Soviets during the Cold War in West Berlin.
Dr Zhivago is one of the most memorable films of my child hood. Especially Lara's Theme being the high light of this all time greatest movie. There never will be a remake of this original, that matches the charm, charisma.
A David Lean masterpiece, the beauty of Russia and the heartbreak of Yuri Zhivago 's love for 2 women,it still makes me cry, I watch this movie every chance I get, a classic...
I saw this movie in 1970 as a child of 6. Of course, never understood anything about the story but the scenes were breathtaking, even at my age, I felt the power in them. They drew me in.
Really ? Don' forget the genius of Freddie Young - the cinematographer on Lawrence/Zhivago & Ryan's Daughter. All Oscar winners for him in the cinematography category. His career spanned 56 years (1928 to 1984) and it's doubtful that there will ever be another talent like him.

I first saw that film when I was 13 back in 65. It had a great effect on me and of course I didn’t understand a lot of it .Years later I saw it in my 20’s and fell in love with it . The music, scenery and of course the story make this a TRUE CLASSIC for all time !
John (are we related😁?) , I agree - I saw it with my mom in the theaters in 1972 when I was 12 (one of the first director's cuts with an extra 16 minutes). Like you, it had a profound effect on me as well, and I fell in love with the story and beautiful imagery. It wasn't until later (like you, in my 20s) that I saw it again and "got it"; it really shaped my views on romance and true enduring love. It's one of my favorite movies.
Watching this one afternoon my young daughter was watching and playing and said the man in the movie has stars in his eyes: 40 years on she stands by it.
Agreed. I only saw it on television, but even as a child I could sense what an epic film it was years before Star Wars. In fact, the a child raised in Southeast Kentucky, it lead me on a lifelong fascination with Russia, its grand expanse as well its music and people. This film has it all. O.S. is a fine actor. Definitely one of a kind.
David Lean’s greatest 🏆 Masterpiece along with Lawrence of Arabia also featuring Omar Sharif. Doctors Zhivago won 🏆 5 Academy Awards. I saw this movie when I was 15 years old and has been my number one most favorite movie 🎥 for 70 years of life. The magical ❄️ Ice Palace🧊 is so mesmerizing. The combination of Omar Sherif and Julie Christie is so romantically 💖beautiful. After watching this movie 25 times over my life span, I stopped counting, because the legend continues to live on in my heart💖 and in my memories. Thank you for posting this beautiful masterpiece. 🥰
Incredible characters. A poetic doctor loses everything in the midst of the brutalist of civil wars, yet still manages to hold onto a beautiful wife and lover. Add Leans vision and Jarre's music and you get majestic storytelling.
When I first read the novel i was completely in awe of it and then when I saw the movie it was an experience of a lifetime.a beautiful adaptation.the best aspect being the casting.
Just a beautiful movie! I had to see the movie twice so I could follow the soviet names! The music, story, scenes, and historical factors was just amazing. This is one of my all time movies of my life. If you have seen it, enjoy it. I warn you it is long but breathtaking!
Always beautiful always a must watch. One of the most romantic, most beautiful movies ever made. Every cent poured into it was worth it. I can watch it a thousand times and enjoy it.
Every time I watch this movie, I'm depressed for days but that's just a testiment to how deeply the movie draws you into the story. David Lean's expansive cinematography is his hallmark and Dr. Zivago delivers in the regard with breathtaking wideangle views of the scenary. One of my favorite movies.
The original Doctor Zhivago is my #1 movie. A story of love at first sight during the Russian Revolution. Doctor Zhivago saw Lara and knew he had found true love. They had different zip codes but love found a way. They both married different people but love could not keep them apart. The struggles in life each character played. The physical abuse Lara endured from the villain Victor Komarovsky and later the verbal abuse and abandonment from her husband Pasha is relatable to a lot of women trapped in bad relationships. Doctor Yuri Zhivago was her only true love and she was his. Love the movie and the theme music. A masterpiece to treasure for all time. ❤️✝️❤️
You explained this movie so perfectly and beautifully, I came here because just 2 days ago my girlfriend who I loved so much died suddenly, I have so many things I had not time to tell her,, but cannot, death is so final and unforgiven, I feel so bad there are no words to express my sadness and now my loniness , I just wish her Memory Eternal.............................

One shot that was so memorable to me was the vase of yellow flowers on the table as Yuri and Laura were leaving the hospital. Its petals were starting to fall as they were departing. So poignant. and a great shot!
I Loved this movie so much. First watched it in a school hall when I was 15, didnt understand Love then, relationships between men and women. Years later watched it again on DVD, on Blueray, also the other BBC version w Knightley. Beautiful story by Boris Pasternak, beautifully directed, screenplay, cinematic experiences. my favorite movie of my lifetime, and in my opinion, the greatest movie ever made and I first saw it at age 13. Subsequently I have watched it several times. The actors were overlooked entirely in the 1966 Academy awards. If this movie had been presented today they would have taken all the awards.
Dr. Zhivago .. was made with a HEART full of LOVE and COMPASSION OF THE SOUL .. the Theme Sound Track .. was the emotion of the hearts bound together .. the scenery was awesome .. Omar Sherif and Julie Christine was so romantically affectionate .. 🌹❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅👏👍Was the best movie of the year ..😍
I thought so as well but The Sound of Music one the Academy Award but from that day on I never watched another one of those shows. I remember the year ET came out and it didn't win either. In fact no Sci-Fi has ever one it as far back as I can remember. Did 2001 a Space Odyssey win it? No.
Went to this movie as a child with my parents who brought along a family friend. He was an old man and he cried through most of this film. I found out later as I had gotten older, he lived it.....

I´ve had all my live a bad relationship to my father, but everytime short before Christmas I watch this movie and when I see the young boy Shivago it brings tears to my eyes again and again, because he looks nearly the same as my father as a little child.
I saw this once when it initially came out. I was overwhelmed by its beauty and sadness. I've never been able to bring myself to watch it again. The book and film are fiction, but what war does is real and goes on and on.
Dr. Zhivago was my first adult movie, our Mom took us as a child and to this day it has influenced my aesthetic style and love of Russian literature, history and architecture.
This film awakened my 13 year old sensuality and overwhelmed me for weeks especially because I was still a good teenaged Catholic girl convinced that only Geraldine Chaplin's character was without sin. Then Lean did it again with Ryan's Daughter on a more intimate level. All of Lean's films touched me fare more than any other movie maker in every way.
Marvellous movie, actors, sceneries, lovely music by Maurice Jarre. A very good clip, named well as The beauty of Dr.zhivago, and using with it the Lara's music theme is so important. Thank you.
That truly haunting Maurice Jarre's score. An earnest Sharif. A masterful Steiger. And heavenly beautiful Christie. What a rarity in Hollywood history. It's a shame that upon its release this was most underrated and David Lean was almost heartbroken not to make any movie for the next decade or so.
An epic movie in every sense of the word, brilliantly directed by David Lean, and a cast to die for, along with a wonderful music score by Maurice Jarre
One of our favorite movies! The beauty of Russia, the magnificent story, the music that is perfect, the actors and sets and scenery and costumes!!!! Forever to be watched!!! Cannot ever forget our own sweet visit to Russia in October 1998. Trip of a lifetime!!!💖💖💖
Most of this picture was filmed in Spain and the ice in the winter palace was dribbled white wax with glitter thrown on it. The making of this film was more than fantastic.

David Lean and Maurice Jarre...absolute masters of their craft! Dr. Zhivago is my absolute favorite film, closely followed by Lawrence of Arabia. Can't wait for it to finally be released in 4K (maybe for MGM's 100th anniversary in 2024?).
Most memorably beautiful! A magical movie with exquisite music that establishes this a one of the greatest ' Classical ' Productions in the history's of movies! Wendy Louise Hall ( Cape Town, SA)

my all time favorite movie, it has some of the most iconic imagery ever put on film, and then there's the exquiste beauty of Julie Christie.
I have watched this film at least 20 times over the last 20 years. My favorite ever!!!
Thank you Utube. Listening to Lara's theme gave me goosebumps.
I saw this once when it initially came out. I was overwhelmed by its beauty and sadness. I've never been able to bring myself to watch it again. The book and film are fiction, but what war does is real and goes on and on.
Julie Christie outshines everyone else with her subtle performance.
My most favorite movie of all time! 🤍
👍👍
Ryan's daughter, too, was wonderful with great story and grander visuals
Marvellous movie, actors, sceneries, lovely music by Maurice Jarre. A very good clip, named well as The beauty of Dr.zhivago, and using with it the Lara's music theme is so important. Thank you.
Yes
That truly haunting Maurice Jarre's score. An earnest Sharif. A masterful Steiger. And heavenly beautiful Christie.
What a rarity in Hollywood history.
It's a shame that upon its release this was most underrated and David Lean was almost heartbroken not to make any movie for the next decade or so.
An epic movie in every sense of the word, brilliantly directed by David Lean, and a cast to die for, along with a wonderful music score by Maurice Jarre
Me trae muchos recuerdos!
Gracias! Saludos desde México!
What did you see? What did you don't remember? I am russian girl from Siberia and I am against aggressive war.
I love that film so much. The music, the acting, the scenery and my favourite director. I got goosebumps after about 20 seconds of this video ❤
This film evokes so many emotions.it is surely a masterpiece!
❤❤❤
My favourite movie , music and most of all my favourite actress Julie Christie. I agree, one of the greatest movie.😊
j'ai adoré ce film. Je l'ai vu plusieurs fois...........................mais je voudrais le revoir tout entier..............;cette merveilleuse musique....................;;
This is one of the rare movies that did complete justice to the book although I did not fully understand it much as a young teenager!
I reached a point in cinephilia where I only watch movies with no cgi or greenscreen because these were the real gems and that is the cinema I truly love.
Brought back memories. Saw this greatest film when I was very young. Wish to see the film again. Thanks for uploading . Greetings fr sri Lanka
Thanks 👍
Brilliant movie, the finest actors 🎉❤😊
Oh lovely to see this again. I was about 15 when it came out & saw it several times. Julia & Omar are gorgeous here. The house in the snow was so beautiful.
Lara's Theme is o e of my favorite tunes. ❤❤
I would love to sit down and watch this movie once again…..however my husband is a movie chatterbox and actually will never shut up when we watch a flick. And being retired -we spend a LOT of time together. Maddening.
Izuzetna ruska prica, koja me svaki puta odusevi tematikom, prizorima ruskog prirodnog i kulturnnog bogatstva, muzikom i ....jednostavno fantasticno.
Božanstven film, divni glumci, muzika najlepša na svetu. 💙🎹🎵
I am an Indian, listening this tune from my childhood, my most favorite Western tune
The tune is great. The lyrics of Lara's Theme, probably not sung in the film, are even greater
David Lean and Maurice Jarre...absolute masters of their craft! Dr. Zhivago is my absolute favorite film, closely followed by Lawrence of Arabia. Can't wait for it to finally be released in 4K (maybe for MGM's 100th anniversary in 2024?).
I hope so 👍
Most memorably beautiful!
A magical movie with exquisite music that establishes this a one of the greatest ' Classical ' Productions in the history's of movies!
