I loove this theme of the film "Out of Africa", film with Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. I cry every time I see the film. This is the most beautiful theme I ever heard for a film, it goes perfect with the film which is one of my favorite films ever. Full of passion and beauty. Thank you so much for this magnificent music!
What happens when you get out of a most miserable society..? hmmmm.. I bet your egotistical of dominantcy wasn't there anymore.. hmmmm.. because you understand what is the making of our human species mindset.. hmmmm.. 😒.. my dear beautiful wife.
I know what you mean. I was fortunate enough years ago to spend a couple of weeks in the African bush on a horseback safari, riding out and living amongst the wild animals. This film and theme kept going through my mind, a very special and magical lace, brings tears to my eyes too. 🙏🏻
They showed this on Turner Classic Movies as a celebration of great composers. I just LOVE the night time visuals of the train passing, with this gorgeous score. A celebration of the humble simplicity of a train chugging away across a vast landscape. I am from Canada and I sometimes imagine a winter version of this scene with an old CPR train driving across the prairies in the middle of nowhere surrounded by snow with the foothills of the Rockies in the distance. John Barry wrote a lot of wonderful film scores including many 007 themes and won an Oscar for this one. He’s right up there with Ennio Morricone in my books.
I remember when this movie came out. Saw it only on video (vhs) not in the theater and thought….”what’s the big deal?” When I got my big plasma tv, I had purchased the Blu-ray because it was REALLY cheap and thought….”eh, just want to see how the picture looks.” As an adult I was MESMERIZED and swept up in the story. BLOWN AWAY! Won best picture for a reason! ❤
It was really made for the big screen--and as close as we can get to the big screen at home. Every aspect of the film has greatness. Even the quiet dialogue scenes are big in their way. Streep in big in her intense restraint. Redford is just the best Redford ever--and that is big. The film does justice to the continent of Africa. From the air we get a hint of it's bigness. When we lose cinema (and we shall) I hope we shall remember it as Baroness Blixen remembered Africa.
It's beautifully sweeping epic from beginning to end. Just the music creates the effects, along with any visual, but all that takes is one viewing of the film, and forever enchanted with Africa. .
I have spent 25 years of my life in Africa, , I love the humble people, the wildlife's , the mountains and will always miss the wonderful sun rise and the sun sets too..Africa will always lives in my heart. This piece of music still gives me goosebumps today every time I hear it, and I still love witching this movie, too... Peace on Mother Earth and its peoples. ❤
This film with my favorite actors Robert Retford and Meryl Streep is one of my favorite films ever Full of passions and beauty. Love and greetings from Zagreb, Croatia 🇭🇷♥️
I love this movie more than anything. It reminds me of a great love back then. My boyfriend at the time also flew and sometimes took me with him. Memories that last. To experience such a great love, I wish many people on earth. I get to experience it now. In addition to Meryl and Robert, I also liked Klaus Maria Brandauer very much. I'm a big fan of Brandauer and think he's one of the best actors in the world. Thank you Klaus Maria.

I just love everything about this film and just watching that little borrow gauge engine working it's way across that lovely country and John Barrie music just completely adds to the magic
Read Splendor in the Grass in the early 1980's in Santa Monica & just knew this story would make a beautiful movie & with John Barry's music it became classic.
I hum this song sometimes without knowing what movie cuz it was before I was born. Heard it somewhere once and just remembered it for years and now I know it’s from out of Africa
In 1985 I was “erg verliefd met” a Dutch girl and we went to the cinema in her home town to see this film, entitled “Een lied van Afrika” (a song of Africa) in Dutch. Unfortunately for me that relationship didn’t last, but the music still reminds me of her.
THIS 👆🏻👆🏻♥️ See my other comment. Cinematographers don’t get enough credit as far as I’m concerned. They and the composers along with the director really seal the deal for me 🎬🎼🎥
There are just some movies you need you need to see on big screen with an audience; Out of Africa, Dances with Wolves and Gravity. I took my only brother to Star Tek 4: Voyage Home and theater was packed. Best time ever!

I wander how much the Masai has really changed from when Blixen was there to when this movie was filmed? I would hope that most of what we saw in the movie has been completely unaffected, and would be, for the most part, essentially the same from 1914 to 1984.
NGL they don’t make movies like this anymore. The sweeping epic tales that transport you to another world with humanity and soul are no more. The English Patient was probably the last of its kind. And no, MCU movies, while supremely entertaining, are not that.
The movie "Anna And The King" (1999) with Jodie Foster and Chow Yun-Fat is a gorgeous epic film, inspired by the story of Anna Leonowens and King Mongkut of Siam.
@@mensrea1251 It is a much deeper story than The King and I, but it does involve the same principals, Anna Leonowens and the King. I was careful to use the words "inspired by" in my description of the movie, because it's not purely biographical. But rest assured, it is a magnificent movie. Chow Yun-Fat is unforgettable as the King.
He was certainly dreamy but a) Meryl Streep should have had top billing and b) the real Finch-Hatton was British, they should have cast a British actor though Redford did have good chemistry with Streep

Among the finest opening themes ever written !
How wonderful! Thanks for sharing. Great movie and one of my all time favorites. Fantastic score by the legendary John Barry.
I’ve just bought a DVD on eBay...cheap @$5, seen it 2x but never enough...such wonderful music too!
@@alanbrookes6637 I’ve just bought the DVD of this amazing film from Amazon. £2.99. Just adore this music.
John Barry’s scores are just so cinematic and capture the essence of these grand epic scenes.
Absolutely magnificent opening, both the scenery and the theme music. It touches my soul.
Another classic sound track from the much missed genius John Barry,
Best theme music by john barry ever. And the flying scene over the great rift valley....i cry every time i watch it....
Having been born and raised in Africa, I cried all the time during this scene
It's beautifully sweeping epic from beginning to end. Just the music creates the effects, along with any visual, but all that takes is one viewing of the film, and forever enchanted with Africa. .
The music from "Dances with Wolves" isn't quite as sweeping and epic feeling, but close. John Barry was/is a genius!
Best opening of all times. Sublime.
I just adore it, it takes me to another place and time, feel as if I want to be there as if I am there
