Taito was one of the nice Japanese company that would give the level data and sprite sheets for their games to European and American developers for them to make the 8-bit/16-bit computer ports. That's why all the level layouts are pretty close, down to the hidden warps. Companies like Capcom would not be so kind, and for games like Ghost 'n Goblins, developers had to go to the arcade and take photos of the game! (And remember, there was no digital camera at the time!)
Taito gave the gfx yes, but never the source code. New Zealand story has been reversed engineered back in the day at Ocean by Colin Gordon. Ghost'n'goblins amiga port was also lifted straight the coin-op eproms, that's why it's exactly or 99% identical graphic wise.
Amazing video - thanks for making. Such an big part of my childhood - loved the arcade and had the spectrum 48k version which had no music! Then got a 128k which did have the music - exciting day.
Forgot to say that the spectrum port also looks very impressive with lovely detailed sprites. It looks like the best 8-bit home computer port even though there is an obvious lack of colour!
@@SockyNoob not at all. I still own the SMS version and I think the NES one was better because even if graphics are a bit weaker, the soundchip is better used, the main music is not a 20 seconds loop and it gives the proper boss fight. All in all, the NES still lacks the EXTEND letters bonus too and I guess it also uses the annoying Hurry Up timer but IMHO it's a better port from the arcade.
Is the Amiga version running fast, or at least the music? I just had a look at another video of it and it is much more like the arcade version than it is here.

Some interesting differences between home ports. NES music by Follin bros. is pretty dope tho IMO the original tunes suit better the game. Then the Mega Drive Japanese exclusive port is actually the only one based on the Arcade prototype which has different level layout and is harder, pretty cool especially once you already played the original :) Then the Master System port looks great for a 3rd gen console as opposite to the PC Engine port which, for a 4th gen console, is just poor with drab graphics and not even a different sound effect for each weapons...

If the objective is really to compare different systems, what's the point to add artificial boosting performance of certain systems, either by speed ups, or by mixing soundtracks to games that didn't have any?
@LKCV in this case, the nes soundtrack is completely original and has no changes compared with the actual version. Only issue is that its running a lot faster than usual. Think they plopped in the pal version and ran it at full speed
The FM Towns version is the best version of the game there is. The X86000 version looks good, but if you play it you'll quickly notice how the (jumping) controls are off/glitched, making the whole game frustrating to play.

I can't understand anyone who says the Master System version is good (I can only think they never played it, or they did but didn't play other versions, or are basing their opinion on graphics).
