  • Hey All,
    Hope you enjoy this little guide on a fantastic little fish, the honey gourami.
    Commonly people mistake honey gouramis as a colour variant of the dwarf gourami, however that isn't the case, they are an entirely separate species.
    Hope you enjoy.

    Just a warning: thick lipped gouramis are often mislabeled as honeys. They are wonderful fish too, but they're not as social, larger, and a bit more aggressive. They can still live with other fish, i have one with my corydoras. The main giveaway that it's a thick lipped gourami is a larger, rounder forehead, thicker lip, and a sort of translucent look to it, especially it's tail. The main thing you want to watch out for is that the thick lipped gourami may see other gouramis as competition, so if you're trying to keep a group of honeys and you get one thick lipped, there could be problems.

    I remember the first time I ever had an aquarium when I was little... I had a gourami!! Of course it was one of those big blue mean ones that a killed everything in my tank.. then I got the big idea that I wanted kissing gouramis 🤣 that didn't go well either!! I've always thought a gourami was gourami!
    Until... I started watching TH-cam and learned about these little honey gouramis... My past experience kept me from thinking about these beautiful little fish!
    Thank you for sharing this... You have such a wealth of knowledge and it's really nice to be learning about different options for the types of fish I would like to keep. I really like these little guys and would really like to have some... Research research research... And I'm really enjoying the research! I hope you have a blessed day my friend!👍🌱🐟🌿🙏

      Like you, when I was young I had a Gourami that made me dislike them. I found a Dwarf Gourami recently which with TH-cam has taken me to the Honey. I live on a Caribbean Island so had to ask a pet shop to include a few in their next order for me. I have made two thirty gallon aquariums for their arrival.

    Hey quick question, I have a Superfish 110 which is 118 liters. I'd love a Pearl Gourami, but I thought Honey or Dwarf Gouramis as the center piece fish would be better because they're smaller. I'd like to get some Cory Cats, Fancy Guppies and Rummynoses or something like that. I'd love your opinion, I'm going to do some research when I have some time.

    • @BlakesAquatics
      @BlakesAquatics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey great question. pearl gourami do get larger and may be more of a showstopper, but I think honey gouramis do much better in community tanks. In any case both are good choices, just make sure you dont get both because multiple types of gouramis usually ends in war. enjoy!

    I just ordered a sunset honey guarami. Should be here day after tomorrow which the same day my Blake's Aquatics kribensis t-shirt will be here...very excited about both. After doing quite a bit of research on these, I decided to take the chance that it won't harm my cherry shrimp. It's OK if it eats the fry because I really don't want my tank overrun by cherry shrimp anyway. I'd hope a few shrimplets will survive in the cholla wood and moss until they are big enough for it not to eat.
