Superduty is waiting for this!
Don’t think they’d add a hybrid to a HD truck
@@harveysingh8785 Actually it would be a better application, the battery pack doesn’t necessarily have to propel the truck. It can be used in the same manor as this setup and diesels are better suited for idling when necessary to charge all the batteries. Semi trucks have a similar feature that allows you use the truck batteries to run your APU, TV, microwave, fridge, cellphone chargers or whatever then it automatically cycles the engine to maintain the batteries. A 1 ton truck that doubles as a generator would be extremely useful and it could also be fitted with a lithium battery to power accessories.
@@EricFortuneJr. Diesels aren't suited for idling because they have particulate filters. After extended idle time, you would clog the filter. Another thing, modern light duty diesels are low compression and common rail, and they have wash down issues because idle temperatures aren't hot enough to completely burn the fuel. If you were to keep idling, you would fill the crankcase with raw fuel. So, idling a diesel to power up something would be out of the question.
@@AkioWasRight Ford Super Duty’s that are equipped with a diesel engine have a driver on command regeneration option for parked regen. So that would solve the DPF problem. And as far as idling the engine goes, I’m sure it would have a high Idol function for when the inverter was in use. Even this F150 was idling at 1500 RPM when it was running. Wouldn’t that keep the engine temperature up enough??
@@Matts000 That's a lot of fuel you're using to do all that.
Still, even it works, I doubt it's good for the engine. High-idle and manual regeneration can be done, but it's bad for emissions stuff the long-run because the engines are meant to be under load. Simply powering a generator isn't enough. Lots of guys I know who high-idle their trucks still have tons of emissions issues because the engines need to be loaded down pretty hard to keep things clean.
Never been a ford fan but I have to give them credit, this is a game changer for the rv owners. The engine at idle is quieter than any inverter generator. This is such a cool feature, Ford is light years ahead in their engineering. My Honda EU3000 is shivering in fear out in the garage.
I have the same generator, I’m thinking the same thing but really need 30amp 110volt outlet
The engine is also 20x more expensive than a generator. I'd rather run a $2k generator than idle my truck engine. Your EU3000 makes 58 db, it's not any louder if at all than an idling truck. Also..... this isn't light years, inverter technology existed, they just slapped it on and plugged it in.
@@gwot that's marketing for ya. making you think they reinvented the wheel when it's been around for decades. still a cool concept though.
@@Mike-jv8bv it's certainly something to lure customers with, cuz everyone thinks they need that feature. Just like people need to buy a $1,500 smart phone to browse social media and text.
Here's my problem.. 7.2 kw is great... more than enough power to do ALOT of things. But not every trailer is wired at 240 volts. Infact very few are. So honestly for people RVing you have a 3.6 kw generator. Well... two of them actually. With a decent 240 splitter like you have here you can power your AC and your neighbors AC, but you can't power your one trailer that has two ACs. Why? Well... great tool, great design but they overlooked one of their major customer bases. Their camping community.
Still plenty useful for some campers, but damn, they kind of dropped the ball on that one
Well, Ford just won everyone who wants to tow a mobile home. That is impressive.
One thing I just realized...my RV shore cable is nowhere near the truck bed. I would have to run a separate power input from the inverter to the front of the trailer. But this would be great to cool the trailer off before arriving at the destination, because it definitely gets very hot in Texas heat while traveling.
So you do not think farmers or construction people would not use this? I have one brother in each of these fields and I am sure they would love it.
@@gregkramer5588 Following your logic... If I said "I like pizza," I would also be saying, "I don't like any other type of food." I hope that's not what you meant.
@@gregkramer5588 So because he didn't list every group that would like this feature he must be excluding them...
Or I could use the extension that I forgot I even had, LOL.
This truck has just changed the game, for sure.
That's what Musk said from his pot-fueled "launch" of the Cybertruck....
@@mikek5298 well i guess but ford has a loyal following in the U.S. and this is a start to a different way for the auto company, the cyber truck i believe does this and is all electric so a better footprint but American truck owners are slow to change so a good stepping stone especially with the full electric version following soon.
😍

I'm a RAM guy, but can't lie this tech is incredible. Gimme a Power Wagon with this tech and it will be the ultimate overlanding off-roading Rig. I hope Ram is paying attention to what Ford is doing here.
@@msalsa1828 that's true. I'm sure they will have some type warranty for that generator
@@msalsa1828 while this is mostly true, the powertrains and tried and true. Even the MHT transmission has already been used in the Explorer and Aviator.
When I saw the inverter announcement, I thought "what a silly reach..." - now that I'm seeing it in action, I have to admit I was completely wrong and Ford must have talked to a TON of customers to realize they would want something like this. Freaking awesome innovation.
Nice for Ford to have this feature, but I would rather run a $2k generator than idle my 40k truck engine. and inverter technology existed for decades, nothing innovative here, just decided to slap a higher power one on and plug it in is all.
@@gwot The engine only idles if the battery is depleted or you're drawing a ton of power. Otherwise, the engine is off. The Inverter uses the Hybrid's available inverter to power the plugs. The nice thing about Ford's Generator is that it's properly grounded by default, so it doesn't trip any ground fault sensors. And it's basically a full GFCI circuit also.
@@Xyler94 That still doesn't defeat my point. The hybrid battery's gonna last you roughly a day at full charge, which if Ford does their due diligent it'll never fully charge the battery under normal driving (unless they have a full charge button), you're gonna get 80% charge at best, and you're gonna lose 20% due to inverter inefficiency, so 60% available power. then it's back to my point, unless you're a 1 night RV camper or drive out everyday, it's idling. If your generator isn't properly grounded, that's on you, I don't see this as a bonus for Ford, it's a given.
Good job Ford motor company there's a reason why you are number one in truck sales... I own a Construction business and I been nothing but happy with your trucks!🇺🇸💪
This is actually insane. You no longer need to lug around a generator and extra fuel for when you are doing off grid camping, huge game changer!!
You'll still need extra fuel for your truck.
Well judging from the video, the truck doesn’t have to turn on that often, he was running a continuous +1500w which never happens realistically
and it cost less as an option as an 8K honda
Man I was just about to pull the trigger on a Ram 1500 but this has me rethinking things.
Good
You won't be disappointed, I'm wanting to trade in my 2014 ecoboost platinum for one.
Power train is all fantastic too, they've been using the hybrid ecoboost and trans in the aviator for a few years.
The f150 is fords bread and butter, they won't risk messing up a new launch.
Ford didn’t have to make a truck this great to keep me away from a camshaft eating hemi.
Get that ford bro 💯
From a ram guy that's very impressive , would be interesting to see what it could do in a house blackout situation
I'm sure it could power the fridge and such. A full house backup would be a tough ask for something this size, however. Then again, if I were buying this, I'd probably already own a standby generator for my home.
Mat Smith , a simple Key interlock makes it safe.
@@db4z09 right. You can add in a line switch that disconnects from the main automatically when the generator powers on, but not everyone thinks about things like that.
@@matsmith5937 it's adorable you think this truck would be useful if there really was a cataclysmic event. It would work as a nice little place to stay out of the elements though. Wouldn't run or drive of course.
@@db4z09 all you need to do is instal a manual transfer switch wired to your breaker box and switch off what’s not needed. Back feeding isn’t necessary.

Hey Ford, we need this technology ASAP in our Superdutys to feed our miter and power saws. Would be useful to constantly recharge my multi bank Milwaukee and Dewalt battery chargers and power Led lights for when I am working on homes without power yet. Also, please make a 50 amp version of this on board generator for my fifth wheel. Very exciting new technology!
50 amp RV is 12K watts, I bet the battery would need to be much larger and expensive.
It basically has 2 30 amp plugs at 120v, you can build your own parallel kit from home depot supplys to power your 50 amp rv probably run everything in the trailer if its 7.2 kw like Ford claims. This is like having a Honda EU 7000 inverter generator onboard. i'd like to see if the 7.2 kw is continuous or peak load. An Onan 5500 will run 2 15k btu ac units.
@@cordellroberson532 I have a 40 foot fiver with two 15K btu air conditioner units powered by a 5500kW onan generator. I have run them simultaneously many times in the summer in the Florida Keys and never had a fuse blow out. I have no idea how you got the requirement of 12K watts to run a 50 amp RV. If you do some research, there are many class A diesel pushers with tag axles in the 45000 lb class weight that run multiple a/c units on 50 amps with less than 9000kw generators.

Yessss
Can you please post a link to the splitter cable that converts the 220v to two 120v circuits? And an detailed explanation of the hookups?
Hi yes I would like info on this as well
And a very quiet Generator. GM and Dodge, are going back to the drawing board. Lol
It's not balancing the load it's displaying the two 120v legs, and your 240v plug is splitting to two 120v legs one each per camper. Looks like on the display it will do 3600w max per leg? Super cool, hope they bring it to the super duty lineup.
It'd be interesting to know how much fuel it consumes while supplying power to RVs. A comparison to a generator that supplies the same amount of power would be nice too
In theory it should be more efficient using the battery as a buffer, and most generator engines aren't that efficient for their given displacement
Generator should be more efficient and simple.
@@zelenizub2036 but the generator doesn’t have a 36 gallon tank like the F150 does
@@brentvance3958 the hybrid only has a 30 gallon tank and Ford says it will last 80+ hours powering the inverter at full boar. So figure roughly 1/3 gallon per hour which is pretty good for a 7k generator
If you get the Max tow package option, the 36 gallon tank is included in the package. Anyone who is planning to tow would opt for the Max tow option.
Thanks Andre @TFLnow @TFLtruck. You have actually ‘shown’ what this truck can do, the rest of the TH-camrs are ‘talking’ what this can do. Super awesome job, looking forward for more videos on it’s capability and real world tests. 👍🙂
Very Impressive. I'm going out on a limb here and saying that Chevy/GMC and Dodge just crapped their drawers upon seeing this.
Just bought this truck very excited for camping this summer! Love the truck so far!
Great Vid Andre! I’d like to see a comparison of how much fuel is used by the truck compared to a traditional mobile generator! How about a video where you guys run the same trailer for about 4 hours each, with the same tests like heater, microwave, and TVs, and then see wether the truck or the traditional generator is more efficient.
I put a soft start on my rv air conditioner and now I can run my Ac on my powerboost! It's the starting up that shuts off the plug in the box. The tech that installed it, laughed and said it won't run the ac.... well he was wrong lol. He's impressed!
I love this new 7kw inverter option, problem is think about if your wife left to get some food or other supply’s and you stayed back and watched the kids. You loose power when the truck leaves. So you still need your generator lol. And the truck is starting and stopping a a hundred times threw-out the night using tons of fuel. Again, I would totally buy the option for job sites and stuff but not for rv power.
Stay in a power site I'd planning on leaving
That dash and center console LCD display looks like the controls for a spaceship. Very futuristic. Huge improvement in the interior department!
When this hits super duty for super size trailers, no one who drives RVs will ever buy a competitor. It just wouldn’t make sense.
But for many HD level 5th wheels or TT they use 50A power. 30A can only power a smaller TT with a single AC. Of course, you can shut down one AC to make it work.
@@dearbulls heavy duty truck might have heavy duty generator. Or 50 amp. Also, , think of the possibilities of having the ability to have your RV connected while driving(special connection of course near fifth wheel), with your RV preheated or cooled before you arrive or have your batteries charged while driving from boondock site to boondock site.
@@dmegahan That'll be awesome if they bump it up to 50A.
Another issue I see is these 150's generator makes 240V from 4 prone connectors. With a normal 14-30L (150 end) to L5-30R (RV end) dog bone connector like what's shown, is it simply by passing one of the 120V prone? That way does it still make 7200W, or just 3600W (simply 120V*30A)? So as what Andre is showing, 2 RVs are sharing the same 3600W power.
@@Lq32332 idk. But I do know that the customers, especially rich ones, are benefiting from it. LOL

Just wait a few year. Will be even better
Really need this for long hauls with the camper. Pull off at a rest stop for the night and can still use AC or stop at a harvest host. Better than running a generator or the extra weight and cost of a battery system for the camper
You really need to do this as if you were Boone Docking with a normal towable RV 22-25 ft. Please try to use the a/c. Although you may need "easy on" for the A/C TFL mentioned earlier months on this possibility and now you're showing us, truly appreciate this video. When my lease is up in 2.2 years. A hybrid super duty would be awesome. The 6.7 powerstroke with the same electric motor as the f150. That would be amazing in my opinion.
Torque: Yes
6.7 powerstroke might not have enough space in the engine bay, but a gas engine with a higher power/torque electric motor should provide enough torque to be comparable to a diesel, but the only drawback will be it cannot provide torque for a long time for a long hill climbing, because the battery will be drained eventually.
Fantastic practical testing. Nobody does truck videos as well as you guys. Love this new F150 hybrid!

3600W per side is impressive. I have a Yamaha EF3000iseb (rated for about 2800 watts continuous at about 25 amps) that I use for my full-size RV, and it carries everything load in it.. included AC, hot water heater, microwave, etc. I used it once after a hurricane to run two refrigerators, an upright freezer, home entertainment system, a window AC unit and a variety of lamps, and it worked great. Surprised I didn't see it already asked in other comments. The one question the vast majority of RV people ask is how would it handle running the A/C. Would have been great to see it in this video.
That said, that is an incredibly impressive performance and well worth $700 for the 7.2kw battery. For comparison, Winnebago Travato Class B "L" series vans have 9600 USABLE watt-hour battery systems and will run the A/C for about 8 hours if I remember correctly. Or in that neighborhood. A definite game changer and is at the top of the list when we're ready for a new truck.
I'd rather put wear and tear on my $800 generator than my $70,000 truck.
True but if your normal generator breakdown you can use the truck as a backup which is a nice peace of mind to have
That is a $5,000 generator

Kicking in to high idle is at least better than normal low idle to charge up but the fuel usage has to be more than a small generator. Man if someone stole your generator they would have your truck also, lol. Nice idea for testing out what you can do. Even if this is not fuel efficient it is good to know you have a back up and can use it places "generators" are not allowed.

Question: Can the truck be locked and in generator power? I can lock my truck now via the keypad but will generator mode not enable the truck to be driven/stolen? This is ideal for RV enthusiasts! Put in it generator mode, put the pets in the camper, and I’m able to go shopping or tour an area knowing that they will be safe from the elements/heat.
I guess we can look forward to a bunch of trucks idling on BLM land connected to RVs.
Idling all night getting 0 mpg while keeping neighbors up and disturbing animals. Great!
TFL Truck should run this test - 5000 Watt generator versus the F-150. Two identical trailers on a winter night: cook dinner, watch a movie and leave the heat on all night. Which uses more gas and which is noisier?
@@santiagohills3997 it won't shut off if they are pulling constant current at this rate. it's only a 1.5kWh pack which will only run a 30A 110-volt AC plug most RVs have for about a half hour at full load without the engine starting. If people are inside their giant RVs and know that they can run whatever electrical appliances they want, they will. Microwave, space heaters whatever they have. When shore power is connected, lots of equipment automatically switch from propane to electric like the absorption 3 way fridge and water heater that will pull a lot of amps and the truck will just stay on to keep up that demand. Maybe when they finally go to sleep it will throttle off but it would be obnoxious as hell for everyone else there.
In California the CARB rules prevent idling, and on federal land I believe there is some compliance issues also. This is so great for tools, when power is shut off for fire etc great idea and tool to use!
@@lutomson3496 I think it's a great feature to be able to utilize the stored power in the truck's batteries. But I don't think the CARB rule will keep people from plugging their RV in all day and night when they go camp on the wild. It's pretty unlikely a BLM ranger would come over and enforce it but I hope they do.
Truly is impressive Ford...amazing stuff.
I would like to see it run the A/C in one trailer.
7kw generator should be good for 1 AC, but maybe not the 2nd AC because of the surge current
I would have passed this truck over for a light duty diesel until I saw this video. It would make a great backup at home when I need to keep my fridges running during power outages etc.
Wow
Very cool for the job site, for personal use I personally would not want to put the hours on my truck for something that a Genny will do. Plus how much gas is being used? I can run my Honda EU2000 all weekend with a couple gallons of gas. Curios how much it would take on the truck? Cool idea though.
Have Tommy take it to the yak ranch and do some welding hooked up to it. Then I’ll be impressed
It's weird because this is the first time Ford has innovated something since the Ford GT. They've been behind the times for 7 decades and all of a sudden they're beyond everyone.
