- From the 1986 HBO special "Don't get me started" Sammy Davis Jr and Brother Theodore rehearse "who's on first?" skit, and Brother Theodore doesn't understand the double talk......classic Billy Crystal

Brother Theodore was a genius. I caught his one man show at the 13th. St. theater in NYC in the 1980's. I had to hold my jacket up to my mouth I was screaming with laughter!
How have I never heard of this. So much comedic genius. Always loved Christopher Guest and the great Billy Crystal. But I have just discovered Brother Theodore a few weeks ago. What nut job. Love him.
Brother Theodore. I missed his life while he was living it. At least I have these snippets of his phenomenal existence.
Long before I knew he was a comedic performer this guy terrified me as a kid in the Burbs. So underrated, both
I know!!! I felt the same way about Henry Gibson who played his brother in "The Burbs."
This was great. I had never seen it before. Theodore was so brilliant. I almost did a spit take with my coffee. If you are old enough to have seen this guy perform live (as I did) then you are blessed.
The genius of his humor is even MORE apparent in the middle of a freaking PANDEMIC.
Too funny. Awesome! Billy Crystal as Sammy Davis Jr., Christopher Guest as The Director, Eugene Levy as The Producer, and Bro Theodore as himself..... Later in this show, Theodore beats Sammy with a baseball bat !!
Billy Crystal in blackface!
This is something I never even imagined existing. Thanks guys for getting some film on Theodore.
Theodore takes command of every scene and every interview he's in.
OMG I laughed ‘til I cried watching this. Friggin GENIUS. 😂😂👍👍🤗🤗❤️❤️💯💯💯
This is the funniest damn thing!
"THE GUY ON FIRST BASE!!!" Hahah, such gusto.
Haha! That's actually Billy Crystal as Sammy Davis Jr!
Ooof. No wonder it’s not on his audition reel anymore.
@@johnsrabe He wasn't being disrespectful. He played the part sincerely.
@@TheSteveTheDragon I understand that. Crystal also does the most beautiful and loving impression of Ali. But it’s blackface and that’s not done nowadays. And we haven’t lost much because of it.
I first saw him on TV as a kid in the 60's and he scared the crap out of me. I was a kid, I knew nothing of a person creating a character. He was brilliant though, as I would come to find as I got older.
This was really funny but the last 6 seconds made me lol and blast my coffee.
Brother Theodore, Eugene Levy, and proto-Corky, amazing
haha christopher guest and eugene levy
"Sorbet?"
"Yup" (followed by disgusted toss)
Comedy gold!
Brother Theodore strikes me as the made-flesh Mister Natural, kicking ass and hearing no excuses.
RIP, you old crank.
Magic.
It was parked outside ALL DAY!!!!!!
geekrockrats That’s about an eight on the old tension meter there, Rube.
Great riff on the old routine.I love the idea of using Sammy Davis and Theodore!
You do know that's Billy Crystal as SDJ
brother theodore was a gigantically angry genius psychotic. but unique and often mesmerizing.
a very tormented soul.
Theodore would be happy you believed his performance.
It Isn't really anger. It's something bigger.
Is this an early version of Corky St Clair from Waiting for Guffman do you think?
sounds like ir
Glad I wasn't the only one reminded of that role in my favorite mockumentary. I still chuckle over his My Dinner with Andre action figures.
Brother Theodore was brilliant as always, a cult hero. He was a holocaust survivor, read his bio. Never strayed from character. Merv Griffin loved him, so did Joey Bishop and Dave Letterman. I remember seeing him in TV as a teen and thinking he was a crazed fascist, never realizing the facade. RIP Brother Theodore, for as long as there is death there is hope. (a quote of his)
i'm here babe.....
Maybe someone else mentioned it but Sammy is played by Billy Crystal. I remember this HBO special.
Shocked that people may actually think that is Sammy.
nigel tufnel doing Corky St Clair!
I agree Brother Theodore was a genius
Brilliance
This is genius
@zen52blues You've got that right. And just the idea of pairing up Sammy Davis Jr with Brother Theodore to do "Who's on first" is a stroke of genius.
StandupTragedian It’s not really SDJ. It’s Billy Crystal impersonating him.
@@RonInbar He knows that. It's the pairing that's funny.
YOU DO REALIZE THAT THAT IS BILLY CRYSTAL PLAYING SAMMY DAVIS ?
According to some of these posts, most do not. Crystal would often parody Sammy ins his act (something he likely could not do nowadays, without of incurring the wrath of SJW snowflakes everywhere)
Of course
hahaha!!!! excellent stuff
Eugene Levy in the background!
Considering his entire family was murdered by the Nazis and he only escaped a similar fate by signing over his family's fortune and fleeing to the United States, I am guessing he might have had some small reservations about playing such a role in an American sitcom.
I knew Theodore well and he thought Christopher and Billy were genius. This was one of his favorite scenes.
Brother Theodore looks like a very aged Mikis Theodorakis
THE GUY ON FIRST BASS
🤣
hahaha
This an impersonation of Sammy, not Sammy Davis.
Is that christopher guest in a bald cap?
Yes
Yes. His character's name is this is Chip DeMontebello. I loved this when it originally aired, gulp, 33 years ago.
nigel tufnel doing Corky St Clair!
Did Sammy Davis ever meet Abbott and Costello ?
Who that playing Sammy D Jr?
William Crystal
How....Why....
The reason for these men to be doing anything, together?
This video clip is...language stops, as did reality.
Did Mel Brooks have a say in this ...Rod Serling?
Obviously. :)
Uh, yeah.
By the way, turn off your caps lock key.
Is that levi hiding in corner
looks like it
this would be good without the bald guy, Billy Crystal does Sammy better than Sammy
just because you can do an impression of Sammy, doesnt mean its funny in ANY context......
It's funny. Sammy would have loved it. Don't get your panties in a knot.
Billy Crystal in Blackface is...well... so unfunny
Billy Crystal is awful, as usual.
