Wait a minute, Jimmy starts the bit by explaining that some of the players in the game today have "nicknames, pet names", but when Seinfeld comes out at the end, he explains that "Who" and "What" are their actual given birth names. I just thought I'd point that out because I know how much people love it when someone points out a minor discrepancy in a sketch that's simply meant to entertain.

Of course it isn't as good as the original by Abbott and Costello. It isn't trying to be. This is an homage to one of the great classic comedy bits of all time and the two brilliant performers who gave it immortality. In this re-enactment, Fallon, Crystal and Seinfeld aren't trying to compete with A & C, but honor them. As the old saying goes, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I don't know why so many people are hating on this. They weren't "as good" as the original...so what? I absolutely loved the original routine, but the comparing and criticisms are a bit too harsh.
These guys took an EXTREMELY old bit and breathed a little life into it, paid homage, and showed that old classic comedy can still be funny. They took a huge risk, knowing that the majority of their audience probably have no clue where the material came from.
And I'm sure that the comedians did their best. For them, it was likely a huge honor to do this. They were obviously having a good time, and they were pretty darn good in my opinion, given that they had zero time to rehearse this, compared to the years of practice A&C put into the bit.
Good job, I say, even if it "wasn't as good". They weren't trying to copy the original, and they were aware they weren't as good. They paid tribute, and they made people laugh.

I think the idea of having the people come up and talk about themselves was a really clever twist. Honestly I wish it was more of a straight remake with that added twist. However they ruin it by having I don't know, clear everything up. The idea is for the guy to get more and more frustrated and it could have and should have lasted longer.

That's your opinion. From my point of view, it's irrelevant how "good" or "bad" Fallon & Company performed the piece. The fact that Who's On First? is still revered 75 years after Abbott & Costello made it a legend is a testament to the duo's singular skill and less about the quality of their loyal fans' homage. Recently, one of my sons participated in his school band's performance of _Eine Kleine Nachmusik_. How "good" or "bad" they played isn't the point. What's important is that they loved Mozart's music enough to honor him 225 years after his death.

As great as (maybe) a couple of these guys are they are just mud tracks in the wake of guys like Lou Costello, Bud Abbott and Joe Besser. I think the best one there, Seinfeld, was embarrassed to be tinkering with greatness.

My only nitpick is when Seinfeld says he's "I Don't Know", and then everyone shouts "Third base!" As a reference to the classic, it makes sense to everyone that has seen the original, but in the context of the skit itself, it doesn't work out as well because it lacks the buildup that that particular joke needed and got in the original.

Of course there's no substitute for the original. I don't think that's the issue here. It sounds like the real issue is, how do we make sure their story isn't forgotten? How do we preserve the story of Bud and Lou so that future generations will have an idea of how we got to this point? We really shouldn't be trying to compare Jimmy and his posse to them; they're doing the best they can with what they've got. If it doesn't rock your boat, go find something else. Watching this skit makes me appreciate the originators even more; Abbot & Costello. It also illustrates that when something looks easy and spontaneous like the way Michael Jordan played, it is usually the result of talent mixed in with endless hours of practicing and hard work.
