As a Chinese, I haven't used cash for a long time. Even in backward areas, using mobile payment has become a habit of the local people, which makes it inconvenient for me to travel to Europe or the United States.

That charging box he was using, is giving you free charge the first half hour, so basically if you charge your phone every half hour, it cost you simple 0 RMB. and those powerbanks could be placed into other box in completely other location. It's like a huge network of free powerbanks, which you just need to remind yourself of putting it back before 30 min mark, else onwards it will cost you 10 rmb or something every 1 hour, something around that.

Because marketing in North America is a big contribution to the success of these companies. Also, people are just naive. They think whatever is unveiled in the US is the best thing in the world. Little do they know China is years ahead in many fields of technology. People think iPhone 7 was the first phone without the headphone jack and they would call that innovation...
This felt like one of those 1950s educational films about what life in the future will be like. I can't believe this is our world! And I kind of want to move to China.

From the infrastructure perspective, only you have network connection anyway, you can pay anyway. Chinese government requests their main telecom companies which are held by the country to build their network as large as possible, and Huawei provides the cheap equipment they need.

Actually 2 years before the Alibaba company has an idea about, lets say 'no server restaurant'. They design the table as a big screen, so the customers can directly order food, then the dishes can be sent by robots. Great video, will surely open up the eyes of many viewers who've not been to China before. The biggest problem with this cashless revolution is that foreign visitors are extremely inconvenienced. I visit for business all the time and I cant use these two apps to pay because I can't open a local bank account (I need proof of local income to do so), while credit cards issued outside of China don't work either. Only useful app for me is Didi which allows foreign cards.
It's sort of similar everywhere now, in the UK I don't use cash, everything is contactless via Apple Pay and Android Pay, plus money transfers can be done over iMessage, I think China was the trailblazer for the whole cashless revolution
I guess the main reason Chinese companies adopt to QR code is because it is more compatible with different phones. Plus you don’t have to have a credit card to use them. Apple Pay is still largely based on credit economy while in China it is never big. But I do love Apple Pay though. I personally find it safer. And what’s funny is people don’t really use Apple Pay in the USA which is ridiculous cuz they basically invented it:
Ryan Morrison Apple Pay is just an alternative to credit card taps. If you don’t have a credit card/debit card , it’s useless. Wechat wallet enables a 8 year old kid to pay for anything in the city if the parent just sends money into the kid’s account.
Convenience comes at a cost. Life requires balance. As a navy seals documentary mentioned. - "The technology is great, but it does fail and had we not been able to do things the old fashioned way, we would be in trouble!" Beware Greeks baring gifts. The Japanese keep cash at home. Surely any sane person would want More Cash, Not Less! Money must be solid. Transferable and agreed value, hence why during uncertain times, Gold, Silver ( which is money) and precious metals go up in value as they are solid, finite in value and transferable.
Foreign celebrities have been going to China to earn money for a while. They earn way more in China. Trust me. The Chinese entertainment industry is just flooded and corrupted with money.
When I travel around China, I normally just need my cell phone and ID card. When I am back to US, I really feel outdated for those stupid credit cards.
cashless not only change payment, but also make China saver and better than ever. you live in your country still have to put a little bit cash in your wallet,in shops restaurants must have cash. that is why in your country some criminals still on the street.several years China also had this problem. since cashless come, no wallet. criminal rob your mobile but can not transfer money. rob shops or restaurants can not get cash.... less and less criminal on the street in China(imagine that happen also in your country). that is why cards payment can not compare.

Yeah, it must feel awesome to be completely in the hands of a private company who can (intentionally or accidentally) screw you big time. So much for privacy and freedom.

+Alexandro Sanchez You mean Bank of America is owned by government? what a moron are you? Not mentioning that there are still so many places not even taking credit card in US, I have to carry the cash when I am going out. So fking inconvenience compare to the cashless ecosystem in China
@杨同林 You'd be surprised. There is a such thing as big data micro-management. The government isn't literally watching your every move. They are watching you based on algorithms and "key-words". You should look into books around big data. Having excess to this data makes it easier to control people since they are all in one systematized platform. They exist not just in government but also in private enterprises. The more you're aware of how we're being spied on, the more weary you should be lol.

To be fair QR codes are pretty antiquated....
Honestly in China is on another level. Kinda scary at the same time. People tend to spend more
I guess the main reason Chinese companies adopt to QR code is because it is more compatible with different phones.
Ryan Morrison plus here in Canada I’m always in situations 60% of the time where the POS machine only accepts chip card with no tap function.
WOW the US is SO behind on this. Great stuff.

Apple Pay and Samsung/ android pay will take 10 years to get to where Wechat and alipay is now.
