5 Star Lodge on wheels! You know your stuff. Your service and custom guided overland trips a must!!
Thank you for your kind words Arthur
Yes Africa is a passion of ours!
(As we are getting on with the years, one has to adapt to make things more "acceptable" ;-)
That's a really neat and functional set up!
Hi Stephen,
Thank you for the comment - much appreciated.
Yes the RTT is a fantastic design. Something which I did not mention is that due to the design / space inside of this Hardshell RTT flipping open on both sides - I can choose which side I want the pillows. Silly but really practical. If the vehicle is parked slightly downhill, I can move the pillows to the other side and still have a good nights rest. Other one sided hardshell RTT designs you either have to level the vehicle nicely, or accept that your feet will be slightly elevated. Really practical feature for us! (Since perfect level ground in the bundu's are not to be expected)
You will enjoy the full walk around I am busy planning and filming.
In that episode I do explain what I have done for my needs and why I have chosen each particular modification and or addition to the vehicle.
Thank you for watching!
great video!!! thanks very much!!! awesome setup
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for the feedback
Please talk about the canvas bag on your canopy gulwing doors.
Hi bmadikgetla,
Those bags were specially made by 4x4 Assist here in Johannesburg (Westrand), for my canopy. They are great in assisting with storing those odd & ends you always want a place for.

Please speak to Mark. He is always helpful!
@@ExperienceWildAfrica I know Mark extremely well. I will give a call. But please do a video on them.
This is the final episode of my Hilux Phase 2.0 Overland Setup.
Let me know in the comments what you think of all the upgrades / changes and modifications done to my Hilux - till now....
As per normal Overland prepping and changes planned, there are more changes planned - Already on the cards is a Water Purification system
** I will do a complete walk around of my vehicle in the near future.
Awesome setup! Quick question, is your 270 awning mounted to the tent or your canopy's roof rack?
Hi Weekend Wanderers 4x4,
It is mounted to the RTT by the manufacturer. Saves me buying another roof rack. :-)
RTT also uses manufacturers mounting brackets. Very practical
Thank you for watching!
@@ExperienceWildAfrica cheers bro!
I like the quick setup time of both the tent and awning, but think the weight on certain vehicles could lead to handling problems. How does the vehicle handle offroad at angles ?
Hi Dries,
Overland vehicles tend to be heavy with all the gear bolted on to our 4x4's. When driving off road you have to factor this into your driving style. I had to adjust my driving style to suit my new vehicle dynamics (On and off road)
I also knew when I started this project, I am not building an off roader / rock crawler, but a very capable 4x4 touring vehicle that will get me to amazing places!!
Took my son for 4x4 driver training at De Wildt 4x4 Course. He completed all obstacles with my fully laiden vehicle - incl scary offroad angles, as well as "Gert se Klip". No worries!
With common sense and the right approach, the 4x4 training day proved to us that our fully kitted vehicles are phenomenally capable!
(It was interesting sitting in the passenger seat in my own vehicle while someone else is completing offroad obstacles with it... :-0 )
The biggest thing about the added weight on my vehicle, is the fuel consumption that increased (+/-8% change) - Not my off road ability.
I am a very happy man with my setup :-)
Thank you for watching and posting a relevant question.
Looking good. If I may asks what do you do for your kids sleeping arrangements?
Hi Family Overlander,
I am unfortunate that my children are all grown up, with their own careers or at university in her last year. Unfortunate in the sense that they do not accompany us anymore.
If my daughter can join us on a trip, I am the one kicked out of my "lodge" and I have to make due with a quick setup tent next to the vehicle.
My previous setup was a Howling Moon RTT with an add-a-room which worked nicely for that purpose as everybody is within the same "room"and can easily scale the ladder in case danger is near - From now on I will have to face the danger - if any - on my own ;-)
MANY overlanders also make use of ground tents of various kinds, and they are all safe. I should be too :-)
Thank you for watching!
What is the make of the awning?
Hi Jean,
It is made by Custom Leisure Tech in Pretoria (Rosslyn)
Thank you for watching.
