Loving this Himalayan adventure so far and I know it's only going to get better once you start the trek. The road didn't seem nearly as bad as when I did that bus ride two years ago, I think they improved it. So many funny moments in this one. You had a "pickle" burrito in the beginning. The pickle is a little side dish which personally I hate and never eat. Not sure why they didn't give you some of the rice and curry there, but pickle isn't a meal by itself. Dhunche was mentioned a few times. That's a town along the way, near the end of the bus ride, when you mentioned that the mountains were in Tibet and Langtang, and the guy said Dhunche and you were wondering if he was referring to a tax. I think he didn't understand you at all and was just saying that the town you were in right then was Dhunche. The "God" meal was awesome. He was saying goat. He also made the sound of a goat. Mutton is actually sheep, but maybe they also call it mutton if it's goat. Mutton would be more expensive than just rice and curry, but still that does seem overpriced. Stoked for episode two when you leave Syabubresi and get up into the mountains. I hope your videos bring some more attention to the incredible Langtang trek, the lodges can certainly use some more business.

Hey Harald! Welcome back to Nepal 🇳🇵 I believe you had a beautiful moment here. I feel so pissed off when that guy charged you 400+ for mutton rice where you only ate few items. Next time before eating on any restaurants in Nepal, please ask out for price first. The mentality of some people is that, travellers have a lot of money so they may charge you high. Thankfully, on besi you got a room with reasonable rate. I felt completly lost in your video and hoping to see more series. Really excited that you're back 😋😊 Cheers!
The grass you were asking about is not a grass , it was the seed of onion i mean small plantlet's which were grown in a nursery by a seller and the other customers who want to grow it in their field buy it. We can not eat as it is . We cultivate it and harvest onion from it. 😍
Namaste :D I did a solo adventure in Nepal a couple years ago... Kathmandu, ABC trek, Pokhara back to Kathmandu. Trekking and staying the in the tea houses, eating dal bhat, momo and milk tea were great memories I still think of today! I spent Christmas in Pokhara! Safe Travels. I'm heading to Costa Rica and Brazil soon. Happy 2022.
I've always wanted to visit the Himalayas, so majestic and beautiful plus the people seem so friendly! Great to see you in Nepal again. Namaste Herald, consumer of pickle burritos
Harold I don't know if you are aware, or think about it, but you're more famous than than the most popular actor/actress you can think of. People know you in countries all over the world. I remember when you didn't have 2 million subscribers. Lol, man you've came a long way. Hats off to you. Awesome job!
What made me most excited is that you didn't do like I did and so many others, the EBC or Annapurna trek. :-) Great. Those are great too of course, but this is a bit more off the beaten track. Next year back to Nepal and also Bhutan for me.
That brings back memories. I did that bus ride in November 1999. The bus was crammed and I got claustrophia so I joined about 20 other people on the roof luggage rack, with my feet hanging off the end. There were two village choirs returning from a competition, and they sang cheerfully as the bus lurched close to the edges. We did the Langtang trek. Was sad to hear what happened to the high villages in the earthquake.
Having recently become a father, I can no longer travel the way I used to for now. But me and my lil' man are very happy to sit down, bottle (of milk) in hand, to follow the adventures of our favourite intrepid explorer. Long may it continue!
I was just in Kathmandu for 3 weeks! I loved it! I loved Pokhara more though, Kathmandu was a little overpopulated and over polluted for me. My boogers where literally black when blowing my nose!! The culture food and people are amazing there just too densely populated. Pokhara is more touristy and a breath of fresh air(literally)
@mero maya beylght ko khaire ho ra bolamaya amar 6 I saw the good things too. But where I live, nobody rips anyone off based on appearance or race. Everyone pays the same price no matter what you look like. Turning the other cheek to the wrongdoings of society and saying "there are good things too" is a terrible cop out for discrimination.
@mero maya beylght ko khaire ho ra bolamaya amar 6 And I bet you'd change your tune real quick if you learned that western countries charge brown people more.
Glad to see you back Heraldo, the anticipation is overwhelming, can't wait for the upcoming videos. It is nice to see so many persons speaking English and the scenery is amazing. @@DAVIDTORRESANI Nepal is very cheap. Nepal is all about Trekking, hiking, mountain climbing, rafting and enjoying the nature with locals. Hey Harald , the grass you just saw was samplings for onion. They plant them and wait for it to germinate and they take the onion from beneath and cut the green part above for making veggies. It’s called pyaz in Hindi

38:03 I nearly had a heart attack when the bus got so close to the edge of the cliff with the driver being on the right side of the bus, and that edge of the cliff being on the left side. I have ridden in buses and minibuses on roads like this in my birth country Georgia when I was younger, and I would always have major anxiety, and also get super sick to my stomach from the bumpy roads
Well, once in awhile, you do see stories in the news about one of these buses falling down the hillside, and everybody onboard getting killed. That's the state of the roads over there.
You ate goat meat and that's a meat menu and would normally cost 400-450. if you eat vegetarian then its around 200-250. Welcome back Herald, so nice to see you in Nepal with another adventurous vlogs. That grass you saw on the way is actually a rice seedlings, they are not for eating or cooking. They are sowed on the field and will grow as a rice plant. Besides sowing, they are also used as part of the religious practice in Bada Dashain which Nepalese major festival.
I like the way you are curious about everything. I always like these kinds of videos. As I am from Nepal, I can tell you that the grass that you were mentioning in the video is spring onion. Those were actually for the cultivation rather than to eat. But we also eat spring onions by adding it to different curries sometimes cooking them or sometimes using it just like a coriander. Next thing about the price of the rice, is quite obvious and rice with motton "mutton = goat meat's curry" to cost that much in Nepal. Specially food in the highway are not tasty, healthy and always are over priced. And 450 rupees is something we Nepali also pay during the journey.
I was gonna say that did look like spring onion, which we use in fancy dishes. In USA, car trips are pretty similar with higher costs of eating at crappy gas stations, so that makes sense for tourist route in nepal
@@ashiljohn Exactly. This is some kind of weird tradition in Nepal that 🐐 goat’s meat are considered very supremely. Goat eaten widely in Nepal, and maybe due to less meat we can get from one goat the price of goat’s meat is very high. The price of normal rice (without meat) in nepalese highway is from NRs. 200-250 ($1.90 to $2.40) but when just a small bowl of Goat meat (just 4-5 pieces of meat and soup) increases the price of food to double and more. Its is kind a shocking. And worst part ks that Nepalese people who seems to bargain for amount as little as cent are willing to pay such a overly expensive price of goat’s meat.
I live for these adventures as i like to travel like this and harold is just incredible at creating some entertaining funny content. can't wait to see how the series devolop.
Mr.Haralad will be loved by everyone in Nepal, sad people are changing him more than the normal price, something that I don't understand 🇳🇵 He is amazing 👏
Don't be sad., tourists around the world kind of expect they will be charged more than locals for some things. But next time he should ask the price before ordering . In Kathmandu a full meal of dal bhat tarkari might cost you Rs350 at a local Nepali restaurant. If I, as a tourist want to visit Chandragiri or Manakamana I will be paying a lot more than Nepali people. For a return ride on the Manakamana cable car a Nepali citizen will pay Rs675 - $US5.65. A foreigner will pay Rs2388 - $US20.00
Hey Herald, the unknown grass you are asking about is actually a type of shallot or onion which they can eat using in every kind of soup and other food as well and for growing onions/ harvesting onions, ultimately. Namaste and hope you enjoy your trek to the sacred valley of Langtang.
Yes when I saw it up close that is what I thought, a Shallot or salad onion. You can eat the lot including the greens, well maybe not the roots of the thing.

Now the more heigher you trek the foods will cost you more ...its same for nepalese people as well ..the reason is due to difficulty to transport food as well as less supply of items there ... They will always prioritise you in buses because they dont want foreigner to miss the bus when they leave .. Please dont go to rivers without a friend ..because currents in those river are very high ..especally up in mountains ...last time i was there in syaprubesi ...there was a natural hot spring bath near there ....i dont know if it still exists ...may be you can ask locals .... Hey Harald! Welcome back to Nepal 🇳🇵
I believe you had a beautiful moment here.
Really excited that you're back 😋😊
Cheers!
The grass you were asking about is not a grass , it was the seed of onion i mean small plantlet's which were grown in a nursery by a seller and the other customers who want to grow it in their field buy it. We can not eat as it is . We cultivate it and harvest onion from it. 😍
Was it not rice stalks? It looked like rice stalks ready for planting.

Manaslu base camp trek video is my favorite,
That brings back memories. Was sad to hear what happened to the high villages in the earthquake.
they don't allow roof rides anymore:(
roof tickets used to be cheap or even free. Last time they were allowed was a fuel crisis 😔
i’m like reading this like the passages out of the novel, my mind is exactly imagining the situation.

As a person living in Kathmandu I fully agree.

The meat you had at the restaurant was mutton from sheep but he was trying to say goat. All the best for 2022 and the many journeys ahead.
In some parts of Asia, mutton is goat not sheep.
Mutton is neutered male goat. It's called 'khasi' in Nepali and is the most expensive meat in Nepal. Sheep meat is usually called lamb.

So imagine what it was like sitting inside on that side of the bus with an open window looking right down at that front wheel 😆
Well, once in awhile, you do see stories in the news about one of these buses falling down the hillside, and everybody onboard getting killed. That's the state of the roads over there.
My grandfather said he used to go to school by this route everyday
You ate goat meat and that's a meat menu and would normally cost 400-450. if you eat vegetarian then its around 200-250. They dint over charge you for being a foreigner. sometime people and you get lost in translation.

Hopefuly Harald reads this comment.
I was gonna say that did look like spring onion, which we use in fancy dishes. In USA, car trips are pretty similar with higher costs of eating at crappy gas stations, so that makes sense for tourist route in nepal
32:45
But if a room costs just 500, 450 is definitely too much for just rice and a small portion of mutton.
