Such a beautiful song. I love Chris playing the guitar so we’ll that it compliments the song. If you close your eyes, you can really hear all the different parts both vocally & instrumentally. Goosebumps!!
Got to see this song done live in San Diego last September. I loved it then and I love 💘 it now! Austin did the shaker then and Maggie the guitar. Its my favorite on the album Stargazer Lilies became very special to me then also.
I told the guys in their video that this song really needs radio airplay! Maybe you could help in this in your next radio broadcast? 😊 It's absolutely beautiful.
@Cheryl Haydon I don't remember if we played this one on the air or not yet? I will see if I can find out. I had planned on listing the songs we played in the Livestream replays but time is something we don't have a lot of extra of. I could kick myself for not finding the time now! 😂
This is just phenomenal!. You can hear each of there voices. Crazy good. When Tim is singing. Chance does the bass. When chance is singing. Tim does the bass. This is just awesome!!
Judy gave you the info on the shaker. It's beautiful in concert. I think Adam was doing the violin. The BTS for this is great. Adam says the song is about regeneration and here they are with leafless trees. I love their new music,so creative and beautiful. The subtle addition of instruments is beautiful. Their voices are forefront and the instruments are just background enhancement. This was Chris Chatham's first video shoot. Great review! Thanks!
@Nana Deborah yeah I made a short from our Live video of this song from the show! Austin is upfront holding that bar bell shaker!😂 when it was mentioned I remembered! 🤣 Thanks for the info! How fun for Chris! Love this song!! 🤗
@@RefriedHomeFries he actually took it home he loves shaking it so much. He asked on one of the Sweet and Low live streams. Tim gave him a look like 'boys and their toys'. I was laughing about it.
Loved the addition of Chris and his guitar, it added even more soulfulness to the song. After the first 5 or 6 times listening to this I now close my eyes so I can just absorb all the beauty of the guys' harmonies combined with the soft melancholy of Adam's no-monica and the tender sadness of Chris' guitar. Great reaction, as always. Loving your productions! Thank you for the joy.
I loved it since I first heard it from the album - as an accomplished acapella singer himself, Chatham knows how to make a guitar line work with the vocal harmony, rather than over-bearing it. And I love that they've chosen to lead their album with this thoughtful, purposeful original.
I’m so glad to see Chris one of the cowritters in this video. My favorite part is we finally have Adam doing nomonica on a Home Free original song! Home Free let us know during the premiere this was filmed in Colorado.
This is such a beautiful heartfelt melancholy song. I don't mind having an instrument played once in awhile in a song. It was tastefully done in the background without taking over. It added a nice element. Tim's lead was awesome along with all the guy's harmonies & Adam's harmonica sounds were great as usual. Can't understand why some commenters have been really negative about the lyrics. They are truthful in saying that some of the south's past may not be pleasant but not all of it is. Our background & upbringing still makes us the person we are.
Hello to you both! TY for all you do for HF but also 🍟🍟🍟! The lyrics are hauntingly beautiful! So truthful in our strong roots ! Chris is such a beautiful addition to the song ! The HF guys are all improving their beat boxing skills! ❤❤❤❤❤❤.
This one just gets me in the feels every time, I'm from the Midwest so not from Dixie, but to me it's such a coming of age song. As you grow up even though you're proud of your upbringing & where you're from, sometimes you need to move on from things to become the person you're meant to be, or at least that's how it hits me. I know when some people first heard it when the album came out, they were afraid Home Free might be going away from country music, but that's not what this song means to our guy's, & they've explained that several times since its release very eloquently. Love the guys & both of you reacting to them too, until next time, God bless & take care!! ❤️🍟❤️
I love love love this song!! And Chatham on guitar is absolutely amazing!! And it was really amazing and special to see/hear it at a small venue over the summer. 🥰🥰🥰 And yes, it's Chance doing bass. And Austin on the shaker. 😊
I saw them do this live (in Greensburg PA) and Chris was there with his guitar and they used an egg shaker (I think Austin did the egg shaker) while Adam did his harmonica. I loved it. It was so good and they just sat down and sang this song. So beautiful! I heard them mention in a live concert in San Antonio that they had recently filmed a video. I’m assuming it was this one and maybe it’s in Texas, then you mentioned Colorado….maybe?
@Baby Fry nice that you saw them perform it with Chris! We saw them with Maggie and we remembered Austin with the egg shaker once it was mentioned after the fact! 😂 It was filmed in Colorado! Thanks for the feedback! We have a live video up performing this with Maggie opening night of the tour 😉🤗✌️
Tim only sings the bass when Chance sings the lead in this, and Austin does the shaker live. And yes, you guys sound really great. While both Tim and Chance do great bass lines I think people don't appreciate enough how seamless they switch, most people can't even hear the difference at all. I easily admit I can't always differentiate it only by sound alone. Considering they have completely different bass voices (Tim's more heavy and Whisky bass compared to Chances more mellow folk voice) that is really well done
Paul if you remember during the concert When they were performing the song so long Dixie Austin was sitting there shaking the shaker during the song. And of course Adam is killing it on his noMonica. It's still hard for me to believe that that is not a real harmonica!
@Patricia Boehringer yeah, we were reminded and found our Live video from the show and made a Short of Austin with the Bar Bell shaker right there in front of us! 🤣 Adam is a machine!! 💯👍
That's super awesome that a patron got y'all new equipment 🥰🥰🥰🏠🍟 I love this song. I've been seeing some negative comments about the lyrics 😐 Anyway! Thanks guys 🥰🤗
@Ruth Minney but they aren't...that is just cray cray but we are finding more and more that some just need something to complain about 😒 I couldn't live that miserably! 😂
It is an actual egg shaker. Austin is doing when they perform the song live. Another great original written by Tim w/ Adam Wakefield of Texas Hill and Austin. Great reaction. I know many hate when the guys use real instruments but I enjoy the mix on occasion when they use. Chance is an actual bass so he can step right into that part when Tim sings, so it is Chance you hear. Chris Chatham is an amazing talent in his own right.
@@RefriedHomeFries always watching you two , i need to comment more often . My health is giving me some problems , but i hope both are you are well . As my father would say "talk to you tomorrow , if God is willing" .
A little late to the party on this but I love this. Love the song. Also love that in the chorus Chance is singing lower than Tim is. A raw arrangement that I am liking
I love your reactions, keep up the good work. Looking forward to meeting you in Albuquerque. The location of the Kimo theater is not in the safest part of town. Crime is up in my city. If you need recommendations for things to do or where to eat just reach out to me. The Indian Culture center on 12th street has great food and lots of recommendations on the different tribes in our state. Bring winter clothes you'll need them.
@Sarah Berke thank you for your kind words! It's not looking good for us making it to the show right now 😒 We are kind of stuck in Cali waiting for parts to fix a leak in our Motorhome. Not sure where we could park it there either where our cats would be safe in it alone 😪
@Sarah Berke thank you! This Motorhome living is very new to us! The last two shows we were able to leave our babies at home in our apartment, jump in our car and go! This time we would have to figure out where we could park our home! 🤣 not sure if we could park it at the venue lol ... if we get our leak under control and a place to safely park it for the show it's still possible. We have a couple of VERY good seats! 👍
This is beautifully bittersweet. It heals an American hurt that's difficult to express. No, no orchestra for this. It's an intimate, personal expression of a single soul. An orchestra would overwhelm the lyrics. Somehow, Home Free still feels a capella, even with Chrs on guitar. There's just something about these men and their music that touches the spirit.
Such a beautiful, deep song. I could be wrong of course, but what I'm taking from the lyrics is that it's time to let the old "Dixie" of confederate flags, etc. be left to history ("the wrong end of a one-way road"), acknowledge the wrongs of the past but move on. I have no issue with instruments being added either. For example, Austin plays piano on his original "If I Met You Now" (on his channel) and there's a steel guitar in it. Like this song, the instruments add rather than detract. Thank you for playing this & for your insights & comments.
I knew y'all would be right on this one. It's awesome. New equipment ... How cool!!!
Love the melody for this song and lyrics.
A real beautiful song with melancholy feel.
@richb313 💯👍✌️
Chris is one of the honoring Home Free members.
@Brenda Grothier and Sweet & Low member! 😁👍
Such a beautiful song. I love Chris playing the guitar so we’ll that it compliments the song. If you close your eyes, you can really hear all the different parts both vocally & instrumentally. Goosebumps!!

@Cheryl Haydon we will be playing it on our show Saturday! ✌️
Austin was doing the "eggshaker" in the concert that I went to. It really is a beautiful song and Chris was just magnificent on that guitar . 🎸🥰✌❤
@Judy Davis now that mention it Austin was using an eggshaker at the show. We will have to watch our live footage again. Thanks! 😉
I was going to say the same about Austin using an egg shaker when I saw them in October.
Such a beautiful song!!
This song made me both happy and sad. Loved it.
