It’s an original. Written by Tim, Austin, Chris and Adam Wakefield (of Texas Hill). I saw them do this live and yes, Austin was on the “egg shaker”, Adam doing his soulful harmonica and Chris was there to play guitar. Chris is a good friend of Tim’s and has helped write some of their songs. His last name is pronounced “Chat Ham”. If you pronounce it quickly enough the “h” goes silent. Love this song! Twelve of their 14 songs on the So Long Dixie album are originals. Listen to Chance on I Can’t Outrun You, Yours. He’s so good! Great reaction guys. 🥰
Chris Chatham is a very talented songwriter, singer and player of pretty much anything related to a guitar. He's been on a couple of other Tim/Austin videos - My Maria and What's It to You. He's also part of their second group, Sweet and Low. You will also see him in a lot of the Tim Foust and Friends videos. I'm kind of surprised that you don't already know him. Great reaction, by the way. Oh, yeah, I nearly forgot. He also produces and arranges. In fact, he produced Tim's doo-wop album.
The is an original and the tile song on their new album. The story I heard but have not confirmed yet was as Home Free was practicing this song when Chris (an old friend of Tim ) grab a guitar and started playing along and it sounded so good they decided to include Chris. I hope the story is true. Chris has played on solo work of Tim and also solo work of Austin. If you have not done it you should check out MY MARIA on Austin’s channel. If has both Tim and Chris in it and is very very good. Another great reaction. Thank you guys and you have a blessed day.
Nope. Chris is one of the songwriters along with Tim, Austin, and Adam Wakefield of Texas Hill. He literally played this guitar bit *as they were writing the song* and they felt it was too integral to the song to be removed.
This is Chris Chatham and he has written this one with Tim and Austin. He has been in a few of Tim and Austin's video's. This song has such lovely lyrics. Such a good job by all of them. If you would like to react to a couple of Adam Chance collabs, check out Wayfaring Stranger with the Fox and Hound, and Take me Home Country Roads with Peter Hollens. You will really enjoy both of them. Enjoy guys
Thanks guys. Chris and Tim were in a band called blue Jupiter before Tim joined Home Free. When they sing this live Austin does the egg shaker so Adam can do his no Monica thing during the whole song. It was written by Tim, Austin, Chris Chatham and Adam from Texas Hill. My top tracks on the album are understand, might as well be me and playing with fire. Tim Foust: will you still love me tomorrow/Stay is a great showcase of his range.
In one of the live-streams of Tim & Austin's side project "Sweet & Low Music Co.", they sing a version of "So Long Dixie" with instruments and Austin using the shakers. It's quite different from the studio version but just wonderful.
It is full of the remembrance and memories of childhood. The layering of high voices mixed with the plaintive echo of harmonica is the magic that finishes the mood with that special soul connecting Home Free alchemy. The guitar wove itself right into the harmonies blending to a satisfying whole. All together a very satisfying misty eyed experience.
I heard this in concert back in October 2022 in Reading, PA. Chris Chatham played the guitar in that concert. A video of this song from the concert is on you tube. I love this song.
Agree, HF can never miss, heartfelt, funny and in between! These are guys that could sing the phone book with an emotion that would make you laugh or cry! They are a fire that can never be removed from my soul!🔥🔥 Keep on with your reactions guys!!👏👏
Thanks for explaining the Dixie/South thing. You know enough. I'm down here, and digging this original.... I'd love for this to get radio time with Chris's guitar. Awesome!
Home Free is my go to group period. They are so down to earth and entertaining every time they do an original or cover it is over the top awesome and they bring it every time with the best presentations.
Another great original song! This is such a beautiful heartfelt melancholy song. Tim's lead was awesome along with all the guy's harmonies & Adam's harmonica sounds were great as usual. I don't mind having an instrument played once in awhile in a song. It was tastefully done in the background without taking over. It added a nice element. Also like the scenery in Colorado.
A song so wonderful. A masterpiece. The harmony is just always perfect at Home Free. A good choice to do it with a guitar this time because that's just part of it. Then Adam's no-monica which can be heard at exactly the right moments. Not too overwhelming. Yes, as I often say: Home Free is not only hearing the music, but also feeling it.
There are videos of "Ain't Going Down (Live)" and a video of Home Free and Maggie Baugh singing Delta Dawn that just outstanding. I love So Long Dixie - it's not just a beautiful song but has such a strong message, the masterful guitar playing of Chris Chatham and (icing on the cake!) Adam's no-monica. Love your channel.
P.S. - Chris Chatham is also in the videos of "My Maria" and "What's It To You" on Austin's channel and is one of the singer/song writers in Tim & Austin's side project "Sweet & Low Music Co.".
It is an original just like all the songs on this album. It amazes me how much talent these guys have that is finally coming out to the fore front. So many people think they can only do covers (like they don't do that by making them their own), and don't write anything original. I am so glad they have a chance to show off all that they can do.
The guitar playing is beautiful.....such a sweet, nostalgic song. Makes me think of doors I've had to close in my past. Some people are taking offense thinking they are turning their back on some of their fan base. That may be why comments are subdued. I think it's a beautiful song.
This is my favourite song off the album. I feel it deep in my soul and it hits some painful memories. However it also reminds me that there were good times and that the place I grew up helped make me the person I am today. I always knew I had to leave and I can never move back there, but I am grateful for everything that place and the people taught me.
Yes, great song and you are getting your wish; Adam Chance is currently working on a solo project. I expect that The Hound and The Fox will be involved some way either in background vocals, instrumentals, production, arrangements or all four.
Great reaction guys! Love how hopeful the vocals sound while the 'nomonica' gives it a forelorn and mournful quality that lends to the well of emotion that is created (demanded).
I live in the South and always have. This song hits the heart! I think this may be my absolute favorite from Home Free. Chis is also a part of Sweet + Low, a side project that Austin and Tim have.
Great song live as well! Can't wait till they make video for Stargazer Lilies! Also check out another video from this album called Save the World!! Killer song and the video is awesome! Great to see you two with Home Free!!! 😊
this one is quickly becoming one of my favorite homefree songs so I am glad you are enjoying it! while Chance doesn't have an album cant out run you and cover me up are amazing chance-led homefree songs that you should do when you get a chance!
The wife and I are going to see Home Free Feb. 19th. Tim is from here and they come every year for the Home Fries from home. I can't wait to go. This will be the wife and I's first concert in around 40 years I think. Last one I remember going to was America doing "A Horse With No Name". Yea, I'm an old buzzard, Iknow.
Cheer up! My last concert was Pink Floyd’s Hole in the Wall. Was supposed to see HF on Dec 23 at the Ryman (Nashville) but it was canceled due to the weather. 😂
Apparently it was freezing cold where they r ... Tim even had hand warming patches he put in his pockets .. poor fellas .. But wat an AWESOME song .... Luv luv luv luv luv them 5 ANGELS and Chris Chatham ... 😇😇😇😇😇😇 Tim and Chatham have been collaborating for about 20 years ... And I luv u guys 307 and ur reactions ... Luv from Australia ... 🦘🥰😍🤩😘😗☺
I just discovered you as reactors and I just want to say how much I enjoy your in depth analysis. I don't know anything about music except what I like (Home Free), but y'all are teaching me some things! I am currently on you tube watching all your HF reactions. Keep up the thorough reviews!!
Great reaction guys as usual 🙂, This one is from their new Album, it's made up of mostly original songs. If you want to hear more Chance singing country try, Yours, Can't Out Run You, or Some Girls Do.
Yea !!!! Love you guys Thanks for the reaction I Messaged you ! (everywhere) lol I got bit by the algorithm #NotificationGang Look I finally remembered ! *chuckle
You guys would love Tim Foust's "I've Seen." It's another "instant classic," done by HF and by Tim with friends in several live videos on YT, where Tim plays it with the piano. It's a beautiful, beautiful song, and like this one, easy to learn.
Austin recently said that Chatham, besides production, played the guitar and that helped shape the song when they were working the melody out. Friend of Tim for over 20 year and a member of Blue Jupiter with Tim
I saw Home Free 12/04/22 they said the had just worked on a video in Colorado Tim said they froze while they were filming. But it wasn't nearly as cold as the venue we were at an ice hockey rink!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey guys, I have enjoyed your discovery of acapella I have been in to acapella for quite a few years I love your show!!!!! I have something new for you!!! it's not acapella but I was blown away🤪 it's a group called Dirty Loops!!!!!! You will love them!!! they are Rock/Jazz/Pop Fusion, you guys are musicians so will be blown away by the bass and drums....well the lead singer/ keyboard player is amazing as well, they are not of this world!!!! start with WORK SHIT OUT and then FALLOW THE LIGHT.... keep up the amazing work LOVE you guys
Actually Chris Chatham is Tim's friend. They sang in a group 20 years ago. This song was written by Tim, Austin, Adam Wakefield (Texas Hill) and Chris Chatham. They also wrote Road Sweet Road. Chris Chatham is a member of Sweet and Low Music Co. Enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.
This was filmed on cold and windy day in Colorado. Chris' fingers were so numb he had difficulty playing. All the guys did a good job of disguising their shivering. Some HF purists aren't keen on the addition of the guitar but most of us feel it's a nice complement to the tenor of the song. Adam's nomonica (which has a slight 'slide' effect) does get a bit lost, IMO. So used to his contribution being a bit more prominent. Not from Dixie, never been, but this song brings up sense of melancholy with every listen. Always enjoy your Home Free reactions.
Home free are absolutely amazing and have so many great songs for you to do a young gentleman taking TH-cam by storm is ( ren -hi ren) this video has had 3 million views in 2 weeks love and respect from the UK 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟😀😀 amazing channel 👍
As was mentioned below their new album features 12 originals written or co-written by Austin or Tim, and they are so very well written and sung. I would really love to hear you react to 2 of my favorites from the album. "Stargazer Lilies" and "Playing with Fire".
You guys need to tackle some Chance leads. “I Can’t Outrun You”- 5 part harmony, Chance directed the video, and it’s hauntingly beautiful. “Cover Me Up”, and let the video play out as there’s a surprise at the end. “Some Girls Do”, and “Born in the USA”- Chance plays guitar on this one, and HF really captures the essence of a protest song.
Love your review. I am so glad you enjoy them and that Matt has seen and spent time with them. I love their new album. In the 2 recent Road Sweet Road tour shows I've seen, Chris played with them. I can't remember if it was at both but it is great in person. I'll see them again in April.
The self-titled album is brilliant! Only 2 covers are included in the 14 songs. Most were co-written by Austin and/or Tim with/without other songwriters (depends on the song). Chris, if you really love Chance’s voice, y’all should check out his TH-cam channel. He has one really amazing original (Song For Home), plus a few covers. He mostly gravitates towards Folk style, which is perfect for his voice! Also, it would be great if y’all would react to Austin’s and Tim’s solo stuff on their individual channels. You won’t be disappointed!
This is beautifully bittersweet. It heals an American hurt that’s difficult to express. The lyrics - they’re an intimate, personal expression of a single soul. There’s just something about these men and their music that touches the spirit. Home Free, somehow, has the ability to break the rules. They can add an instrument and still feel a capella. Chris Chatham on guitar was just the right bit to add. His playing was just enough to augment, but not too much to distract. Damn, these men are good.
LOL…They froze their butts off making this video….they were outside Denver. No, it’s Chris Chatham…Tim’s friend from Nashville. Tim & Chris wrote this one.
Chris is right, “DixieL is the area that was south of the Mason-Dixon Line, which is the south portion of the east. Tim, Austin and Adam Chance are all from Dixie. Tim from SE Texas, Austin from South Georgia, and Adam Chance from Alabama.
Awesome! You guys need to listen to (and maybe even react to) Adam Chance’s solo stuff! He has some videos here on YT, including his original Song For Home. He is planning on releasing a solo album (what a dream come true!), but we expect it to take another two years or something, him being so busy with HF and other projects.
I'm a Marylander, which is south of what they call the Mason-Dixon Line that divides us with Pennsylvania and the so-called "North" of the war. I live down in Louisiana now, and I actually love it down here. I always associate Dixie with the deep south, but I think you're right, that it's just the southern states during the war, which included Maryland because it was still considered the south. I personally don't consider it the south anymore, but technically, it was back then. Having said all that, this song is an original and I think it's a hit. Any song you can sing along with after one listen has gotta be. PS Chance is working on some solo stuff right now. He just posted some hints about it. I can't wait either. His voice gets to me every time. Just something about it.
I always enjoy your "bro banter"... I also enjoy your reactions for all of your content. Chris Chatham has provided guitar for Tim and Tim & Austin and ran the board for some of Tim's solo Do-Wop stuff. He is an excellent guitar player and I'm stoked that he was here for this song. Once again it was great to hear Adam's no-monica. I've been a subscriber for over a year and I am pulling for you guys to hit 50K.
Sorry to comment so much but they wrote a lot of good songs on this album. You should check out save the world off of the Same album. It's a very different kind of song for them. Mostly Austin and it has piano in it. But it is also a good example of their songwriting skills. From what I understand Austin and another songwriter wrote it.
the South, region, southeastern United States, generally though not exclusively considered to be south of the Mason and Dixon Line, the Ohio River, and the 36°30′ parallel. As defined by the U.S. federal government, it includes Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia
Chris is also one hell of a good singer. I don't remember if you guys reacted to My Maria by Tim and Austin but Chris sings on that and he is a great voice. Also just as an aside Dixie is south of the Mason-Dixon line. If you look up Mason-Dixon line and you'll know what is considered Dixie.
The music industry is following the current cultural trend of turning away from the ways of the South, removal of Civil War monuments, Dixie Chicks dropping to The Chicks. Homefree is acknowledging that trend but saying that they are still proud of the manners and teachings that they grew up with are still honorable. Dixie is on the wrong end of a one way road. There were some very wrong ways in the past but "you can't erase the past , you can only learn from our mistakes "
Such a great song. Tim and Austin work with Chris (and a few others) in a side project 'Tim Foust and Friends ' who, for a few, will come perform a show in your backyard, literally. Here's a link to one of the songs they did called My Maria by Brooks and Dunn. th-cam.com/video/ozGxXndcV9g/w-d-xo.html
I love this song, but it worries me, because I think it's their way of saying they are moving on from Country music and moving in a new direction. Don't get me wrong; I'm a Home Fry for life, but I will miss their Country stuff. Their voices are so well-suited for it. This is a Tim/Austin collaboration. Chris Chatham goes with them in their Backyard Bashes, along with Sebastian on the keyboard. I really love Adam's haunting no-monica in the background.

Tim and Chris have been long time collaborators. They were both members of Blue Jupitor, an acapella group before Tim joined Home Free.
Chance posted on his IG about finishing a solo project in the desert last week . Can't wait to hear his smoky, smooth bourbon vocals
It is coming along......a little Crimson Tide told me! lol

They just get better with every song/album. The bridge in this tune is amazing🥰 Love this beyond description!

Love your reaction!
Easy way to remember it is that his handle is chatham-bomb, to rhyme with atom bomb.
Everyone has their own "Dixie".
Austin during live shows plays a shaker.
It is an egg shaker. Austin uses it in live performances. Funny you thought you should apologize for pointing that out. 😂
Haha didn’t wanna step on Rupp’s toes, had to tread lightly! 😂
LOL…They froze their butts off making this video….they were outside Denver.
No, it’s Chris Chatham…Tim’s friend from Nashville. Tim & Chris wrote this one.
Tim, Austin, Adam Wakefield of Texas Hill, and Chris wrote this one.
Chris is right, “DixieL is the area that was south of the Mason-Dixon Line, which is the south portion of the east. Tim, Austin and Adam Chance are all from Dixie. Tim from SE Texas, Austin from South Georgia, and Adam Chance from Alabama.
The group they were in was Blue Jupiter.
Austin is from Tifton, Georgia, Chance is from Atlanta and Tim is from Beaumont, Texas - we’re talking at least on the edge of Dixie if not in it.
When they did/do this live, Austin used an egg shaker.
You guys NEED to American pie by Home Free With Don McLean singing with them too , its a must do ......so good and it has 3.3 mil views
Have you checked out Chance with The Hound + The Fox on Wayfaring Stranger and Sound of Silence?
Hello guys this is an original. From what I understand it was written by Tim and someone else.
Austin, Chris Chatham & Adam Wakefield(Texas Hill)

Ah ok. Thanks for letting me know and correcting me.
Have u guys seen or heard of Sabotons-Bismarck it's a banger
Hey guys, it's "Chat-am" the h is silent.
Yes this is an original written by Chris Chapan( sp), Tim and I never remember the 3rd guy's name
Austin & Adam Wakefield(Texas Hill)
Dixie = States below the Mason-DIXON line. Traditionally from Arkansas/Louisiana - >East.
Dixie is south of the Mason Dixon line
funny enough, I am German but i do know what Dixie stands for.
Such a great song. Tim and Austin work with Chris (and a few others) in a side project 'Tim Foust and Friends ' who, for a few, will come perform a show in your backyard, literally. Here's a link to one of the songs they did called My Maria by Brooks and Dunn.

Did you check out Savannah and Brabo new song Shot me Alive? 🔥🔥🔥🔥
#700 for likes, cool. I love Marc Martel's stairwell cover of "Nothing Else Matters".
