Home Free did a wonderful job with this song. Very respectful cover. The singing is on point and you're right about Tim not sounding like he usually does.
I'd never heard this song before the Home Free version, but I agree is so touching and beautiful, and the Vince Gill original is wonderful as well. I love the way HF substituted Amazing Grace for the guitar solo from the original. They filmed the band shots a long time before the video was released (it was the last song released from Dive Bar Saints, after they abandoned their European tour), and then decided to add the actors to fill in the story. The video has the caption "In this uncertain time, there are so many brave people teaching us each day about real sacrifice. Thank you to those who are sacrificing their strength for others because they don't have enough of their own. This song is for you." - in April 2020, that meant a lot.
Before I found my love for all things HomeFree , Vince Gill was my favorite singer. A friend of mine and I bonded over our love of Vince. He was suddenly taken from this Earth leaving two children and a very pregnant wife. This was played at his funeral and their was not a dry eye in the church. My sister also requested this for her funeral and I made sure it happened 3 years ago. So I agree it's a tie for which version I love the best. My condolences also to Lesa on her loss. 🙏 Great music will always bond us together in good and bad times. Thanks for a great reaction. ✌❤😊

Yes, when the song requires it the guys can be serious and emotional.
I like the song, I like their version, but this is emotionaly draining
