      We feed our humming birds nectar(or,sugar water 💧,I should say)every Summer at our lake cottage.Than,I watch them preen themselves on the pine 🌲 tree.I didn’t know,that bee’s or wasp’s could attack them?I wonder 💭 why?I’ve nerve heard of this!The poor hummer!You’d think 🤔 they’d be much too fast for a bee?😮

    Crazy fact:
    Hummingbirds are routinely preyed upon by praying mantises, making then the only birds to be regularly predated upon by an insect

    • @kennethmullen-qe9hg
      @kennethmullen-qe9hg 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      True! But also preying mantises will eat lizards occasionally, sometimes ones much bigger, and heavier than they are. Much larger, than one may even think would/could be possible from our perspective. Lizards most bugs avoid, as if their life depended on doin' so, them bein' professional insectivores, mind you, odds would say so, anyway, as most are. Except when it comes to mantises, a lizard likely will make a meal of one that's fairly smaller relatively, but a grown mantis will turn a normal day, into a very bad one, for the average lizard, likely never EXPECTIN' such a thing even possible. Mantises actually I'd really have to SAY are, basically, the insect-world's version of mustelids! Really fightin' way above their class, and weight! Both doing so viciously, and, while exuding such unmatched confidence all-the-while as well...lol!

    Interesting, a bit of a mistake to show a picture of a snowy owl when describing their predators (snowy owls live in the Artic Tundra).

    Ein penetranter Irrtum: Dinos waren nicht die Vorfahren von Vögeln, sondern aufgerichtete Echsen. Deren Skelett ist verhältnismäßig immer zu schwer zum Fliegen. Das der Vögel ist filigraner und ermöglicht erst das besondere Atemsystem der Vögel: gleichzeitig ein- und ausatmen, wie bei einer Doppel-Luftpumpe.

    A beautiful bird, and a beautiful video commentary. Predators might include owls, but not the owl pictured, which is a snowy owl of the arctic. Sorry to nit-pick. Great story though, ❤

    Ahhh yes of course the mighty snowy owl has to consume thousands of bee hummingbird a day to sustain itself, that is if the bald eagles don't eat them all first lol

      I read your post just after I'd posted similarly. Fair play. But to add to the story, the local name of zumzum chito deserves a comment. Whenever I see dragonflies hunting I give them "light-sabres" "zoom-zoom!" and chitos, aren't they lovely little snacks?
