    Hi, I am 68 years old and this scooter has kept me in the game. I love the low center of gravity, the unlimited choice of foot placements, and the automatic transmission. I do wish it had factory cruise control and I wish the wheels were bigger. Otherwise it has been a very dependable bike, I rode it to the Lost Coast, and to Zion National Park. . 80 mph across the Nevada desert no problems at all.

    I’ve owned 6 Burgmans. They are awesome. I have purchased ones with damaged transmissions. One thing for sure is that you don’t have to remove the engine to remove the cvt for repair. Remove the plastics, exhaust and fuel tank. Remove the rear engine mounts, disconnect a few wires and the fuel injection feed, lift the rear of the bike just enough to slide out cvt. I can have it out and on my work bench in about 2 hours. The rest is easy.

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s awesome I did not know that that’s good to consider if I ever lose a belt. At what mileage do you usually lose the belt on those? I was told the 2012s had upgraded belt.

    • @waynepaterson450
      @waynepaterson450 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ManCaveMayhem The ones I have replaced had about 70,000 klms on them but I have seen ones with over 140,000 klms still on the original belt. The secret seems to be keeping the cvt filter clean. It’s on the right hand side of the bike. Another important thing to watch is the bolt that keeps the front variator servo motor in position. If that breaks it will spin in the housing. Not good. If you remove the bolt to inspect it and see any marks on the small protrusion past the thread then replace it. Very cheap insurance.

    Great r3view. I had a 2008 650. Loved the commodious underseat storage. When my wife and I rode with fellow motorcyclists they always had the issues of where to store helmets and jackets. We just put them under the seat and walked away. It was powerful, very competent on the highway and reliable. If I had one gripe it was trying to move it around when not powered. Not having a neutral it was a beast to move and downright tough on a gravel driveway. My dealer said the same thing. I understand that Suzuki made some mods to address that in later models but I never tried one. Sold it and bought a cruiser and regretted it almost immediately. Looking at getting a Burgman 400 to get back that “scooter” convenience and fun.

    I'm 55 and a re-entry rider since 1996, yes Bill Clinton was President. I rode mostly Honda Interceptors. I had four of them and the 1000 was the best. I also had to own a Harley just because. Now, I own a Yamaha Stryker 1300, a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500, and a Honda Elite 250. Yup, the scooter gets 90% of my attention, so I'm selling the Honda and getting a 2008 Burgman in two days ! Your Burgman is a dream bike, so don't take it for granted ! I wave to every rider and Harley riders are the biggest snobs, so only about half wave back. We're on TWO WHEELS, bro.

    I just bought an older 2006 Bergman 650 in like new condition to park along side the 2003 GL1800 Gold Wing I have owned for 20 some years. At 80 now, my touring days are over, and I plan to sell the Wing and keep riding day trips on the smaller bike. First impressions after the first ride of 50 kms......loads of power, lousy suspension, super smooth and quiet motor, poor wind coverage with the factory windshield, but overall a lot more fun to ride than the huge Wing. Reminds me more of riding back in the '60's when I first started to ride.
    I think this "little" bike will keep me in the game for awhile longer...

      @ManCaveMayhem  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, due to the size of the tires and the suspension. It definitely is lacking in that department, but is easily overlooked by the fun factor and the ease of use. Sold my 650 vstrom and bought a 2011 650 Burgman with 7000 miles last Spring for $3000 partly from watching your videos and feeling confident I could do more maintenace myself than I originally thought. First thing I did was change the fluids and filters...Looked like they had never changed any of the fluids. I have not had any problems at all and love the comfort of this over the Vstrom. I use it to comute 60 miles when the weather is nice.

    Hello, I am 65 and retired and was going through my 2nd youth and procured a 2011 Burg Exec much like yours (white w/red seat). (Beautiful bike with only 4000 miles!!)I researched Burgmans for almost 2 yrs(including your videos) before getting my deal. I love it!! I live in Florida and have enjoyed cruising the beach roads but have not done any longer trips yet. I appreciate the maintenance and the "Scooter Trip" videos. Your videos partially convinced me in getting the Burg over the Honda Silverwing. I'm 6'2" 280 and the Burg is very comfortable on my 20-50 mi runs so far. Was curious about the cooling system and frequency of maintenence on it.Thanks again for your vids....

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They say you should do it every two years if you’re running the super long life coolant that Suzuki sells I think that’s a bit much though in my opinion. I know they sell test strips to test your coolant to make sure that it’s still doing its job. I haven’t got that far into it. You would definitely be safe changing it every two years. I’m happy to hear that you are enjoying the videos that’s one of the main reasons I’ve been doing these. Ride safe my friend and enjoy that Burgman.🇺🇸👍🏻

    Nice video, dude!
    Back in 2008 I did have a Burgman 400. Old carburated model (it was a 2003, but here in Brazil the EFI model only arrived in 2014). Had it for two years and did put a lot of miles on it, riding along with fellows with "normal" motorcycles. My wife loved the pillion seat. Back then other fellow riders still saw it as weird, specially in my city (Brasília, the capital) in which bigger scooters were not as easily seen as in bigger cities like Sao Paulo or Rio, but I had no shame on even going to rallies on it. Back then I was known as "the big scooter guy".
    After that, I´ve had a lot of "regular" bikes (from trail bikes to naked bikes to Harleys), and my current one is a 2016 Indian Roadmaster with 30k miles on it, in which I did a roadtrip to Uruguay and Argentina before the pandemic. (Curiously, the only Roadmaster in my city, so if I was known as "the big scooter guy" now I´m "the Indian guy").
    Recently I found out I have a discal hernia on the lombar region and it´s been hard to move the 460 kilogram Indian (which is a bike I totally ADORE and I´m sorta depressed I might need to sell it) around, specially in low speeds, parking maneuvers, etcetera. I haven´t been able to ride it in three months and yesterday I just noticed I had a dead battery (as I live in an apartment building with no outlet in my parking spot, I can´t plug it into a battery tender).
    I´ve been considering going back to scooters and the Burgman 650 was my first choice due to the "convenience items" that I´m used to in the Indian, like luggage room and electric windscreen (heated seats are not a must in my region, grips I might add later on). And your video is very enlightening, because I happened to find a 2012 Executive here in my city for a decent price and I didn´t have much info on it, only on the newer models.
    About waving... welll. Don´t mind what other people think, just ride (I´m sure you don´t! mind) .
    Best wishes!

    The drive belt is supposed to last the life of the bike. My friends 07Burgman has 81k on the odo, and is still on the original belt. Most belt failures are due to abusive riders that constantly push them to the limit. And on comparable maxi scooters, you must change the CVT belt around every 7,500 mi, and having that done at a dealer four times wouldn’t be cheap either. About $400-$500 a pop. My Exec has 24k and has been trouble free so far. Even a $1,000 belt change at this point wouldn’t cause me to melt down.

    • @ManCaveMayhem

    Hi from Ireland. Really enjoying your videos. I'm close to purchasing a 2014 Executive and have gleaned loads of useful info from your channel, thank you.
    Have you or anyone else here in the comments experienced any vibration upon acceleration? I did on the test drive today and I'm wondering is this normal? Thanks!

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My 650 doesn’t do that so it could have something to do with the belt failing. It’s hard to tell unless I’m there or riding it. If it is a belt problem then it cold be very costly.

    Hi Mancave, what is your average mpg on your scoot? I just bought a 2009 with 2260 miles on the clock, and with my best estimate I'm getting about 35 mpg.

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That sounds about right! On longer trips I’ve gotten upwards of 45 mpg. A lot of it depends on wind and everything else of course. Those bikes are subject to all those factors so it’s hard saying a lot of it too will depend on how much weight you’re carrying. If you’re going on camping trips etc. hope this helps! Remember keep the rubber side down. Ride safe my friend.👍🏻

    One more comment. I experienced the same “half wave” all the time. Those same people are aging and for various reasons are no longer comfortable on a big heavy motorcycle. There are really no motorcycle options for them resembling what they ride. I have spoken to several who grudgingly admit that they are looking at scooters but they can’t get over their prejudice. Having lived in England and seeing how Euros (and Asians) take scooters for granted maybe the walls will come down here too and they will just be part of everyday life. Fingers crossed. One comfort I often beat overweight middle aged guys on cruisers from the light, while they would not even acknowledge that I was beside them, while pretending to adjust my helmet. Revenge is sweet.

    Great Burgman you have , I get my 2,000 mile 2018 model Executive 650 next week, Just waiting on delivery from up Country .
    Not sure I like the modulating headlight idea as some Idiot would think that you were flashing them to come out of a side street . I kind of like the display on yours as opposed to the latter models (Car like Dual analogue clocks) A lot easier to see at a glance . But hey I will get used to it & probably fit a GPS Speedo somewhere .
    Unfortunately You get the stigma worldwide from Motorcycle riders, It's a shame as you say we are all in it together & enjoy 2 wheels (or 3) For what it is . They don't know the reason why you are on a scooter, It could be through choice or injury so it's not really for them to judge . I have had loads of bikes in my 53 years & see each for their own particular uses. I need the Burgman 650 to munch up motorway miles & i'd rather do that in a comfy seat !!
    I also own a BMW C1 so I am used to the weird looks people give & to be honest couldn't give a Hoot ! it's my choice, they don't have to like it or ride it .
    I had a guy on a sportsbike pull up next to me at a set of lights years ago & sneered at my C1 , it wasn't until i met him at another set of lights just as the heavens opened & a massive downpour started for me to just look up at my roof as I was sat in the dry & just Shrug ..... It was Great !!
    Ride safe & keep up the great vids .... 😉👍

    I have a 2009 version of this bike. I have owned a variety of bikes over the years including a Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager and I currently have a Can Am Spyder RT Ltd. I enjoy riding all of them especially the Burgman. In my view it is the bench mark of maxi scooters being the best equipped when it was produced. The manual over ride on the transmission is a great feature because it provides a 6th gear for better fuel economy. I agree with all your comments regarding comfort and storage. It's where you're going not what you ride that counts. Forget that scooter v bike v Harley thing it means nothing. Here is my review th-cam.com/video/LzDg9MOaLHQ/w-d-xo.html
